Chapter 593: Not a Good Daddy Today, Try Again Tomorrow
Cecily said, "Don't talk like that. We need to sort this mess out first."
Aurelie gave a half-hearted smile, "I know it's a tough nut to crack. Just let it slide. Let them do their thing."
Cecily eyed Aurelie, worried about her state of mind.
It was a lot for anyone to proces, all this chaos hitting at once.
Even though Aurelie didn't break down or cry, she was still torn up over Joshua's death.
After all, he was her dad, the one who raised her.
Cecily tried to comfort her, "I know you're hurting. If you need to cry, just let it out. Don't keep it all bottled up. It's not good for you. And remember, you still have the baby."
"I won't shed a tear for him. He had it coming," Aurelie spat out, her teeth clenched.
Cecily thought about what she saw in the video, hesitated, and then told Aurelie, "Aurelie, Joshua's death was an accident. He was trying to climb back up, but he slipped and couldn't hold on."
Aurelie's empty eyes flickered, "An accident? He didn't jump?"
"Yeah," Cecily confirmed.
Since Aurelie had her back turned to Joshua at the time, she always thought he jumped out of anger because of her.
"But you did provoke him before he fell, so the Miller family will definitely blow this up," Cecily worried. The issue was trending online, and the Millers wouldn't let it slide.
Aurelie's face went pale, her lips drained of color, "I get it." She forced a weak smile, reached out, and held Cecily's hand, "I know Barbara will use this to stir up trouble and pressure me to pay the debt, but I have nothing left. No matter how much they push, I won't give in."
Cecily pressed her lips together and nodded, "Let's grab some dinner first. You still need to eat."
"Okay." Aurelie's eyes wandered around, realizing she was in Nathaniel's duplex apartment.
Just then, Cecily's phone rang. It was Darian.
Cecily answered and stepped aside, "Hello."
"Are you coming home? I'm downstairs," Darian asked.
Hearing Darian's voice, Cecily blinked in surprise, "You're downstairs?"
She walked to the window and looked down. A fancy Rolls-Royce was parked below, and a tall, slender figure was leaning against it, talking on the phone.
"Yeah, I'm here to pick you up," he said.
Cecily glanced back at Aurelie and told Darian, "Wait a bit."
"Okay."
Cecily hung up, and Aurelie walked over, "Is Darian here to pick you up?"
"Yeah," Cecily nodded.
"Then go with him. Don't keep him waiting. There's a nanny here. I'll ask her to make me some pasta later. You should go home with Darian." Aurelie nudged Cecily towards the door, "Go on."
Cecily looked back at her, "Is it safe here at Nathaniel's?"
"It is," Aurelie nodded.
Cecily thought about how Nathaniel had protected Aurelie today. It seemed he had feelings for her. Since he brought her to his place, he should keep her safe.
Cecily thought for a sec and nodded, "Alright, hit me up if you need anything."
"Okay, you go on. Stay safe."
Cecily headed downstairs, and there was Darian, waiting patiently. When he saw her, he walked up and grabbed her hand, "Why the long face?"
"Joshua's dead, and the online hate towards Aurelie is brutal. It's hitting her hard. I'm really worried about her," Cecily said.
Darian opened the car door, "If she's tough enough to stand her ground even with death threats, why not just get outta here and disappear for a while?"
"You mean have Aurelie leave Silver Frost Capital so they can't find her, can't hurt her, and she won't have to deal with the online crap, just wait for it to blow over?" Cecily asked.
"Exactly," Darian nodded. "She can't do much about the online stuff except wait it out. And if she skips town, the Millers can't touch her."
"That's a solid plan. I'll talk to Aurelie about it," Cecily said, ready to head back upstairs.
But Darian pulled her back, "It's too late now. Do it tomorrow. She's safe at Nathaniel's. Plus, it's too late to book a flight."
"Okay," Cecily nodded, feeling a bit more at ease with a plan in place. Aurelie was pregnant, and she'd likely agree to leave to protect the baby.
"Feeling better now?" Darian leaned against the car door, looking down at her.
Cecily smiled and got in the car, "With your plan, yeah, I feel a lot better. Let's go home. I haven't eaten yet."
Darian raised an eyebrow, "What do you wanna eat? I'll take you out."
"Let's eat at home. Rowan and Griffin are probably waiting for us," Cecily said.
"It's rare they're not with us. Can't we have a meal alone and enjoy some time together?"
Cecily laughed at Darian's constant attempts to ditch Rowan and Griffin, "Darian, you need to be a good dad. Don't always think about ditching them. They're only six."
"I'll be a good dad tomorrow. Tonight, I just wanna be with you," Darian said.
Cecily was both amused and exasperated.
Darian got in the car, started the engine, and they drove off.
Darian took Cecily out for dinner, and then they went for a walk to digest. Without Rowan and Griffin around, Darian had Cecily all to himself, and he was in a great mood.
They got home really late. Cecily glanced at her watch; it was almost midnight.
She figured Rowan and Griffin would be asleep by now.
Because of all the craziness earlier this year, they didn't send them to school and hired a tutor at home. Even though they didn't have to go to school, their sleep schedule was still pretty regular.
But tonight, as Cecily and Darian walked up to the house hand in hand, they saw Rowan and Griffin sitting on the steps, looking worried and a bit resentful.
Seeing this, Cecily exchanged a glance with Darian, quickly let go of his hand, and rushed forward, "Babies, why are you still up so late?"
Griffin pouted, "Daddy said he was going to pick you up, but it took six hours. Did he go to outer space to get Mommy?"
