Chapter 395 Secret Investigation, Keep It Under Wraps

"Yes, my mother will be staying here for a while, and I need to spend some time with her."

Sandra knew that Darian had forgotten Cecily due to his amnesia, and it was understandable that Cecily had moved back to live with Vivienne.

"Cecily, I did many things wrong before, and Darian also wronged you in many ways. But he realized his mistakes and changed. This amnesia wasn't his choice, you..."

Cecily knew what Sandra was about to say. "Mrs. Sandra, don't worry. I understand. I said that the past is behind us, and I won't keep bringing it up. As for Darian and me... since I've come back, I won't leave easily."

"That's good. I hope you and Darian can be well together. After all, the children need a perfect family," Sandra said earnestly.

"I know."

"By the way, I heard what happened with Victor. I complained to Owen at home, and he knew that Victor was at fault. But Cecily, after all, he is still Owen's grandson."

Cecily understood what Sandra meant.

No matter how unworthy Victor was, he was still Owen's grandson. Between her and Victor, even if Victor was at fault, Owen would still protect him.

"Mrs. Sandra, don't worry. I will try to avoid Victor and won't have conflicts with him here."

Sandra nodded reassuringly. "I know you are a sensible child."

Cecily had something to ask Owen, so she let Rowan and Griffin accompany Sandra while she went to Owen's study.

Since Cecily had discovered that Patrick's death was not an accident, Owen's attitude towards her had improved a bit.

"What do you need from me?" Owen asked in a deep voice, sitting at his desk.

Cecily didn't beat around the bush. "Darian's amnesia. It was you who asked Eliza to do it, wasn't it?"

Owen's originally calm eyes darkened, and he squinted at Cecily. "You know everything?"

"I guessed it was Eliza, but I didn't dare to guess it was you because you are Darian's grandfather. I couldn't believe you would use such a method against your own grandson, risking his health just to make him forget me."

Owen's grip on his cane tightened. "Do you think I wanted to do this? It was because you had bewitched him too much."

Cecily found it absurd and laughed lightly. "And Eliza? She's with you now, isn't she?"

"You want to ask her about Patrick's car accident?"

Cecily nodded and added, "I also want to ask her for the antidote to Darian's amnesia."

"It's no use." Owen sighed.

"No use?" Cecily's eyes narrowed. "Did you kill Eliza?"

Owen smiled. "I'm not that ruthless. After all, she was my granddaughter for a while. I just had her test the drug on herself before using it on Darian. The dose she took was much larger than what Darian took."

Cecily's eyes darkened. "So she also lost her memory, and we can't get any information about the car accident."

"Yes."

Owen sighed. If he had known earlier that the car accident wasn't an accident, he wouldn't have administered such a heavy dose to Eliza. Because of the excessive dosage, Eliza not only forgot those events but also became mentally impaired. She was now confined in the Fitzgerald family's secret dungeon.

"Eliza also said that there is no antidote for this drug."

Cecily's eyes tightened. "So Darian will never remember the past?"

"Not necessarily. Amnesia isn't permanent. Perhaps one day, Darian will remember."

But it could be five or even ten years later, the uncertainty was too high.

"Have you told Darian about this?"

"No. If I told him that his most respected grandfather drugged him to cause amnesia, he would think I was crazy, wouldn't he?"

Even Cecily, who knew what had happened, found it hard to believe. How could Darian, who had forgotten everything, believe that Owen would go to such insane lengths?

"Since you know, keep your mouth shut. You wouldn't want to see Darian turn against me, would you?"

"You're right, but if you do something so outrageous again, no one will help you cover it up."

Owen was momentarily surprised and looked at Cecily with a scrutinizing gaze. "You agreed so easily? No conditions? You don't plan to use this to threaten me?"

At this, Cecily shook her head and smiled lightly. "You like to use these things to threaten people, but I can't do that. Besides, what good would it do to make Darian turn against you? Mr. Patrick's death hasn't been fully investigated. We shouldn't be enemies, should we?"

Seeing the slightly astonished look on Owen's face, Cecily said no more. She wouldn't tell Darian. What good would it do? Would telling him turn back time and restore his memory?

No, it wouldn't.

With a slight nod, Cecily turned and left the study.

Owen's aged eyes flickered as he watched Cecily's face, a face he had once hated deeply because of his grudge. Now, he found it impossible to hate her.

Owen had genuinely liked Cecily before. He didn't deny that Cecily was excellent in many ways and deserved Darian.

If he hadn't hated her because of Patrick's death, she and Darian might have been a wonderful couple by now, and Owen could have enjoyed the happiness of having grandchildren around him.

Instead, he wouldn't have been living like a lonely old man, estranged from his family.

In the quiet study, Owen leaned back in his chair and let out a heavy sigh.

Sawyer brought in a pot of water. "Mr. Fitzgerald, what did Miss Watson talk to you about?"

Owen shook his head. "Nothing. How is the investigation I asked you to conduct?"

Sawyer lowered his eyes. "I'm still investigating. It's been a long time, and there are no leads yet. But we've got Dominic's family under surveillance."

"Conduct the investigation secretly, and don't let any information leak out."

"Yes." Sawyer stepped forward and poured Owen a glass of water. "Mr. Fitzgerald, do you have any suspects?"

Owen raised his eyes and gave him a piercing look. "Why do you ask that?"

Sawyer was startled and quickly said, "I just wanted to know, so I can have a direction for the investigation."

Owen's all-seeing gaze did not move away from him.
