Chapter 46 Darian Handed Over His Black Card to Cecily

Cecily rested her chin in her hand while looking at Darian with a benign smile. "If Mr. Fitzgerald has no objections, neither do I."

She was obviously making it tough on Darian; Cecily didn't believe for a second that he would agree to her terms.

Larkin, standing to the side, silently shook his head.

Mr. Fitzgerald was certainly asking for it.

He had previously refused free treatments when they were offered right at his doorstep. Now, he'd be looking at a bill in the hundreds of millions for just one session.

Larkin really wanted to ask Mr. Fitzgerald if he was burning through money just for the thrill of it.

Darian's gaze was locked deeply on Cecily.

Cecily subtly raised an eyebrow at him, her mind racing with thoughts of him rejecting the proposal and inviting her over for treatment instead.

Darian let out a cold chuckle, "Fine."

What?

What was happening?

Cecily's composure faltered.

He agreed just like that?

His treatment wasn't a one-time thing. It was going to be a prolonged process that would require both meticulous care and a massive investment of time. Following Cecily's calculations, it would amount to an astronomical sum.

Larkin was equally stunned; his usually stern and serious face was now showing a rare expression of disbelief.

Was Mr. Fitzgerald serious, or was this some kind of joke?

One was brazen enough to demand such a price, and the other was willing to pay it. Were they playing some kind of game?

Cecily's expression grew serious, and she narrowed her eyes at the man before her, "Darian, are you sure? Future treatments will take up a significant amount of your time. It's practically like you're buying your life with cash."

Darian raised an eyebrow calmly, "As you said, it's buying life with money. Do you think any amount of cash is worth more than my life?"

With that, Darian pulled out a black card and placed it before Cecily.

"The pin is four zeros. It has no limit. Is that enough?"

Larkin's pupils contracted once more in shock. Mr. Fitzgerald had just handed his own black card to Miss Cecily?

Cecily's delicately arched eyebrows furrowed. She cursed herself internally. Money was the last thing Darian lacked. Why on earth was she trying to negotiate a financial deal with him?

Cecily realized she was in a bind. With Darian's unannounced visits becoming more frequent, it was only a matter of time before he discovered Griffin. Besides, her intentions to see that child were now completely at odds with her current predicament.

Taking a deep breath and averting her gaze to avoid eye contact with him, Cecily asserted, "I can't do this, Darian. I'm not okay with you being here like this."

"So, you say no now, after you've just agreed? Are you going to refuse the money too?" Darian's deep, dark eyes scanned the room, his voice carrying a haunting resonance. "Or is there a dirty little secret hidden here that you're afraid I'll uncover? Is that why you're so hesitant to have me over?"

A shiver ran down Cecily's spine as she withstood his scrutinizing gaze, but she quickly regained her composure. She locked eyes with Darian and let out a scoff.

"You wouldn't allow me to treat you at your place, and now here you are, wanting my care. So clearly, it's not about getting treatment. Your real aim is to keep me away from the Fitzgerald family. Darian, I haven't even started questioning your secrets, yet you've beaten me to it."

Cecily feigned calm, taking a sip of water to suppress her nerves fully.

Darian's impassive eyes bore into Cecily with intensity, as if trying to read something deep within her own.

Equally frosty, Cecily held his gaze, unwavering.

At that moment, the tension was broken by the sound of Larkin's phone ringing. Larkin hurried to the side to answer it.

His face quickly took on a grave expression as he leaned in to whisper to Darian, "Mr. Fitzgerald, something's come up. The young master had a fever last night and was rushed to the hospital this morning. Ms. Ophelia and your mother were in a car accident last night; Ms. Ophelia suffered some cuts, and your mother has a mild concussion. They're all in the hospital now."

Darian's brow furrowed deeply, "Which hospital?"

"Saint Andrew's Hospital."

Larkin spoke in hushed tones. Cecily couldn't catch the specifics of their conversation, only bits about the young master having a fever and being at Saint Andrew's Hospital.

An inexplicable tightness took hold of Cecily's chest; she wanted to ask for more details.

Darian's towering figure rose to its full height, and with a piercing look, he declared, "I'll come back for the treatment tonight."

Leaving just a single sentence behind, Darian had already stridden out.

"Take your card with you."

Darian paid no mind to her and, turning her head to glance back at Cecily, Larkin suggested, "Miss Cecily, you better keep it."

Mr. Fitzgerald never took back what he gave out.

After watching Darian hurry off, Cecily's heart clenched even tighter.

After hearing the sound of the front door opening and closing, Griffin, sensing the living room was empty, poked his head out.

"Mommy, did they leave?"

Cecily gathered her thoughts and looked back at Griffin, "Yeah, they're gone."

Griffin stepped out with complete relief, "Mommy, what's wrong? You seem distracted."

Cecily shook her head, tousling Griffin's hair with a hint of a smile, "Mommy's fine. You've got school today; I'll take you there in a bit."

Griffin felt his mom was keeping something from him, though he also had his own secrets.

Last night, it was Blaise who had intercepted Ophelia and her group. Blaise had instructed him not to tell Cecily, to spare her the worry, so Griffin kept it to himself.

After preparing breakfast for Griffin and watching the little guy finish, Cecily packed his backpack and they set off for school.

In the car, Cecily instructed Griffin, "At school, don't pick on other kids; try to focus during class; don't cause trouble, and most importantly, no skipping school, got it?"

Griffin, now buckled into his booster seat, looked up from his tablet. He furrowed his little brow and asked, "Mommy, most parents tell other kids to behave, listen in class, and go to the teacher if they're bullied. Why don't you tell me those things?"

Cecily laughed, "Griffin, I'll consider it a win if you don't bother anyone."

As for the classes, Griffin had already learned what they were teaching at school. Sending him there was just to keep him from being alone at home and getting into mischief.

The school would at least give him some form of structure.

"Did you listen to what I just said?"

"I listened; I'll be good; you have to believe me, Mommy."

Cecily couldn’t help but crack a cynical smile. “Believe you? That’d be the day.”

After dropping Griffin off at school, she kept toying with the idea of going to the hospital. She was worried about the kid.

Meanwhile, back in the VIP ward of the hospital.

Ophelia sobbed desperately, while Sandra had come around and was now lying in her hospital bed.

"Darian, the guy who attacked us last night; he targeted me and Aunt Sandra. He did this to us; we can't let him go unpunished."

Darian's gaze narrowed, and he glanced at Larkin, motioning for him to investigate.

Larkin nodded and left the room.

Darian took a moment to collect his thoughts before asking, "What were you two doing on that road last night?"
