Chapter 86 Investigating Star Rise Group
Cecily immediately checked her clothes in the mirror. She had specifically worn long sleeves and pants the night before. Thankfully, her clothes were still intact.
With a sigh of relief, Cecily relaxed.
Early in the morning, Larkin brought some fresh clothes over for Darian and Griffin. By the time Cecily changed and came out of her room, Darian had already put on a crisp suit and was leisurely sipping coffee as if he were in his own home.
"Acting like you own the place?" Cecily approached him. "Why haven't you left yet?"
Darian barely glanced up. "My son is still here with you."
"That's my so—" Cecily caught herself, taking a deep breath to remain calm as there was no need to argue. "Fine, I know you're busy with work, so I'll take the kid to school."
"You think I don't have a car? That I need you to take him?" Darian's gaze flicked away indifferently.
Cecil took a deep breath and reminded herself once more to stay calm.
Meanwhile, Larkin, caught between the two, quickly offered Griffin's clothes. "Ms. Cecily, here are the young master's clothes."
Cecily took them without a word.
Larkin ventured a suggestion. "Actually, if you'd like to drop off the young master, you could go together with Mr. Fitzgerald."
Cecily raised an eyebrow and retorted, "Who wants to go with him?" She strode back to her room.
Darian watched her leave with a slight frown then turned to Larkin with a warning look.
Larkin forced a smile. He attempted to convey what his master appeared unwilling to express. Being an assistant could be challenging at times, caught between offering assistance and facing rebuke.
Cecily returned with Griffin, already dressed. Aunt Mary had set the breakfast table, and Cecily gave Griffin some bread. "Eat up."
Griffin, holding his bowl, glanced between Darian and Cecily, sensing their mood. He asked, "Did Daddy and Mommy have another argument?"
Cecily cast a glance at Darian and patted her son's head. "No, hurry up and eat or you'll be late for school."
Griffin gulped down his creamy oatmeal. "Mommy, can you take me to school?"
"Of course, I can. But someone doesn't agree."
"Someone?" Griffin looked at Darian. "Daddy, why don't you agree? I love it when Mommy takes me."
Cecily glanced at Darian with a smug expression.
Darian, with an unchanged expression, briefly looked at the two. "Hmm, then I won't bring the kid here again."
"No way," the mother and son protested in unison.
Griffin hurriedly added, "Letting Mommy come along is okay, right?"
Darian raised an eyebrow but didn't refuse this time.
After breakfast, Cecily was getting ready to take Griffin to school along with Darian.
Suddenly, the front door swung open. Aurelie had come over early in the morning, buzzing with gossip and curiosity. However, she was in for a surprise when she saw Darian as soon as she opened the door.
Aurelie immediately closed the door with a bang and stood outside for a long time, trying to regain her composure.
It clicked in her mind that Darian had stayed at Cecily's place last night. She was slightly impressed at the fact that they were progressing quickly.
Cecily picked up her purse. In her room, she heard the door close. "Did someone just come by?"
Darian simply replied, "Yeah."
"Who?"
"Your best friend."
Cecily knew without guessing that her friend must've been spooked away.
...
After dropping Griffin off at school, Darian looked at Cecily in the passenger seat. "Where to?"
Observing Darian's offer to drive, Cecily firmly stated, "I'll take a cab." Despite her declaration, as Cecily prepared to exit, the man started the car, made a turn, and the vehicle smoothly continued its journey.
Cecily was puzzled. Slowly, she realized something was off. Darian was heading toward her office.
Cecily furrowed her brow and asked, "Do you know where I work?"
"Is it that hard to find out?"
Indeed, at Silver Frost Capital, a simple search and all her information would be laid bare before him. Nothing could escape his gaze.
Cecily fell silent, and the two of them remained quiet throughout the whole journey. Soon, the Maybach pulled up steadily in front of Cecily's office building.
Cecily didn't linger. She thanked him, opened the car door, and stepped out. Darian didn't stop her. He just rolled down the window and watched her walk into the building.
The car had only been parked for a few minutes, but it had already attracted the attention of many onlookers, who gaped at the handsome profile of the man inside the car and murmured in awe.
"Isn't that… Darian Fitzgerald, Mr. Fitzgerald? I was just wondering who the big shot was, and it turns out to be Darian Fitzgerald. What's he doing here?"
"I just saw a lady get out of his car. Was he dropping off his girlfriend?"
"Don't be silly, Mr. Darian's girlfriend is the young Ms. Ophelia. She wouldn't be seen here."
Darian didn't stay any longer and left immediately.
At Flores Group.
In the office, Ophelia looked at the photo on her phone, fuming. "Darian dropped off a woman at that small company?"
Elysia nodded and responded, "Yeah, this photo was taken by a friend who just happened to be passing by. She didn't catch the woman's face. Ophelia, don't be upset. Maybe there's some misunderstanding."
"How come it's Star Rise again? They have a mysterious owner, a secretive perfumer, and now a mysterious woman. Why does everything relate to Star Rise?" Ophelia's expression darkened.
Elysia was also puzzled as to why everything seemed to be connected to Star Rise.
"Perhaps it's just a coincidence," Elysia suggested.
Ophelia clenched her jaw and said through gritted teeth, "I haven't dealt with one Cecily, and now there's another woman around Darian. Go check it out for me. I want to see who's the shameless person trying to seduce Darian."
"Yes, Ophelia. Try not to be angry. Don't make yourself sick."
Ophelia looked up, wanting to soothe her forehead, but only then did she remember her hands were wrapped in thick bandages.
Elysia didn't dare ask Ophelia how her hands had gotten injured. She feared that asking would just unleash Ophelia's fury onto her. Her latest fragrance formula wasn't perfected yet, and Ophelia was already quite annoyed with her.
At the entrance, the assistant knocked on the door.
Ophelia glanced down, simply saying, "Come in."
The assistant walked in with a fashionably dressed woman wearing sunglasses as she announced, "Ms. Ophelia, Ms. Sinclair is here."
Ophelia's expression softened a bit and greeted, "Lucinda, please come in and have a seat."
Lucinda removed her sunglasses, revealing a delicate and lovely face, and greeted Ophelia with a warm smile, "Ms. Ophelia, you don't seem to be in the best of moods today. What happened?"
Ophelia stood up, joining Lucinda on the sofa, and responded casually, "Nothing much, just some ineptitude from my staff that's got me riled up. How's everything going with the request I made to you?"
Lucinda shrugged her shoulders slightly. "No progress, the person from Star Rise who came to talk to me was Aurelie. Her boss didn't show up."
"Didn't you mention it to her? I told you to have her boss come out and talk."
Lucinda and Ophelia had already agreed on a collaboration. However, Ophelia was aware that Star Rise had its eye on Lucinda for a spokesperson deal, so she deliberately kept this information under wraps.
"I did, but she said her boss was too busy to meet. What could I do? But I did as you said, I've agreed to their terms, and we're signing the contract today."
Ophelia frowned slightly. "All right, when you see her today, tell her that if they want to sign the contract, her boss needs to come out and sign it personally."
Ophelia was determined to find out who was behind Star Rise.
