Chapter 541 Proposal
Karen pulled Cecily into the car, while Aurelie accompanied Vivienne into another car. Bryan, wanting to be with Vivienne, struggled to keep up but was left behind due to his slower pace.
Bryan was helpless but not angry. He immediately called Sam to bring the car over.
On the way, Karen kept talking to Cecily, occasionally expressing concern about whether Cecily was cold, treating her like her own daughter. Cecily listened and occasionally nodded with a smile in response.
Despite maintaining a calm expression, Cecily had already mentally prepared herself for the possible events that could unfold. While outwardly appearing as if she didn't know what would happen next and expecting a routine meal, she had meticulously considered the potential scenarios in her mind.
The car drove steadily, passing through the busy streets and arriving at a quiet place. The deeper they went, the quieter it became. Ahead was a wide open space, and as they continued forward, a sea of flowers came into view, swaying rhythmically in the breeze.
Next to the sea of flowers, there was a large screen playing something. The place was beautiful, as if meticulously designed.
Undeniably, the scene before them was reminiscent of a perfect proposal setting, straight out of a girl's fantasy. One could easily imagine the sheer happiness and romance that would accompany two individuals deeply in love, exchanging heartfelt proposals in such an idyllic setting.
However, Cecily had no interest in appreciating the beauty here.
"What is this?" Cecily's eyes sparkled with confusion.
The car slowly stopped, and Karen just smiled without speaking. She pulled Cecily out of the car and said, "Cecily, let's go."
As the car door opened, Percy and Bella, along with Landon supporting Bella, were already waiting by the car.
Seeing Karen successfully bring Cecily, Percy was relaxed.
"Cecily, we are all waiting for you," Percy said.
"Uncle Percy, weren't we going to eat? What's all this?" Cecily still pretended to be unaware, looking surprised by the scene.
Percy smiled broadly, his eyes crinkling. "Cecily, Evander really likes you. We hope you can be together. Give Evander a chance."
"Go ahead. Evander is waiting for you."
Percy gestured, and Cecily looked in the direction he indicated.
In the sunlight, Evander stood in a white suit, holding a bouquet of red flowers, waiting in the sea of flowers as if he had been there for a long time.
"Miss Watson, your injuries haven't fully recovered yet Let me help you walk a few steps." Landon, who had been silent, suddenly spoke, stepping forward to hold Cecily's arm.
Cecily glanced at him. Behind his rimless glasses, his eyes carried a slight smile, but upon closer inspection, she found they hid a sharp coldness.
Landon pulled Cecily forward in a supportive manner. In the middle of the sea of flowers was a small path paved with stones.
Cecily observed her surroundings. Apart from the Lockwood family, she recognized several other people, likely heirs and heiresses from wealthy families.
Additionally, Cecily noticed a large video camera set up nearby, seemingly for a live streaming, with reporters crouching around with various cameras.
Everything was meticulously planned, just waiting for her to arrive.
Cecily's lips curved into a faint smile. Percy's extravagant gesture of inviting numerous individuals to bear witness seemed like an announcement to the world, highlighting the significance he placed on her. However, couldn't it also be interpreted as a subtle form of coercion?
He was telling Cecily that she had to agree, whether she wanted to or not.
He was also telling Evander to find a way to make Cecily agree, or else he and the Lockwood family would lose face.
"I didn't expect I would have the chance to be your brother," Landon said, holding Cecily's arm, his voice low. "I'm curious if you'll really agree to Evander."
"A woman who has been abandoned twice by her ex-husband, divorced, with two children and a miscarriage, now has a chance to marry into a wealthy family again and receive such a grand proposal. If I disagree, I'd be ungrateful, wouldn't I?"
Cecily's response was flawless, leaving no room for error.
Landon chuckled softly. "Do you really think so?"
"Evander is a good guy and has a good family, and he treats me well. If I marry him, wouldn't I be gaining?"
Landon gave a enigmatic smile. "Have you really let go of Darian? That doesn't seem like you."
"When I was kidnapped, Darian had already made his choice. If I don't let go, should I cling to him shamelessly?
But you seem very interested in me today, asking so many questions. Are you trying to persuade me not to marry Evander?" Cecily continued.
"I just think you're very different today from before," Landon said.
"People are in change, especially after going through so much." Cecily sighed lightly as if deeply tired.
Landon suddenly stopped, turning to look at Cecily. "I know you don't really want to marry Evander. Remember I said I owe you one? If you need help, I'll help you.
If you regret it now and want to leave, I can help you. Or, if you want something from the Lockwood family, I can help you get it.
You really don't have to marry someone you don't love and sacrifice your future. It's not worth it."
Landon's eyes were deep as he stared at Cecily, full of seriousness, giving her time to think.
