Chapter 54 Wrath of the Tyrant

"Get out, Darian, I despise you enough, don't force me to hate you more."

Cecily's chilling words nearly provoked Darian to anger again.

His lips parted, but no words came out. In a fury, Darian raised his hand and punched the mirror next to him.

Shattered glass littered the floor, and a long cut on his hand began to bleed profusely.

He turned and walked away without looking back.

Outside, Aurelie's voice sounded, "What's going on here, everyone?"

Aurelie arrived on the scene to find a crowd outside Cecily's door, thinking there had been some incident. She walked into the living room and saw Ophelia, her brow furrowing as she approached, "Ophelia, how did you get in? Where's Cecily?"

Ophelia's eyes were bloodshot, her face a mask of venomous spite as though she could devour someone whole.

With Aurelie's confusion growing and no sign of Cecily, the bathroom door opened and a brooding Darian stepped out. Ophelia charged forward, trying to push past Darian to reach Cecily, "You wretch, Cecily."
Darian raised his hand to stop Ophelia. "What are you doing? Making a scene here?"

Ophelia froze in place, tears starting to fall as she noticed the scar at the corner of Darian's mouth. "Darian? Me causing a scene? It was her who seduced you..."

"It was me who came to her, she has never seduced me. Don't blame everything on her."

Her eyes brimming with tears, Ophelia trembled as she stared at Darian. "Darian? You..."

She wanted to hysterically ask, why he had come to Cecily's place, but the words hovered on her lips, unable to be spoken.

She knew Darian didn't love her, and she feared that piercing this thin veil might lead him to suggest breaking off their engagement!

She lacked confidence, so all she could do was cry, hoping Darian would feel sorry for her.

Aurelie noticed the knife wound on Darian's neck and realized something was amiss.

He and Cecily wouldn’t go so far as to stab each other, would they?

Damn it!

Aurelie pushed past Darian and rushed into the bathroom, "Cecily?"

Darian glanced back, his annoyance deepening, a scowl forming between his brows, and a hint of resentment lurking in his eyes.

Suddenly, there was a light gasp from the bathroom, "Ah!"

Darian, taken aback, didn't hesitate before turning on his heel and striding into the room.

Cecily had already dried her tears and straightened her clothes. She was about to step down from the washbasin when she realized her feet were numb. As she put her foot down, she twisted it, and with the floor being wet and her bare feet, she slipped and fell.

Aurelie jumped, startled. "Jesus! Cecily? Are you okay?"

Darian's pupils contracted as he swiftly bent down, his arms reaching out to pull her into his embrace.

Cecily frowned, seeing Darian's handsome features looming closer, his face showing signs of tension and remorse...

"Get away from me," Cecily pushed him, "Nothing good happens when you're around."

Darian ignored her protests, bending over to inspect her ankle. Cecily wouldn't allow his touch, raising her foot to kick him away. Swift as a hawk, Darian caught her ankle, eliciting a soft gasp from Cecily as he did.

A frown creased Darian's brow as he noticed the fair skin around her ankle turning red and swelling.

There was an involuntary flash of concern in his eyes, so brief he almost didn't catch it himself.

Although his heart twinged with concern, his lips curled into a sneer. "Serves you right."

Cecily's fists clenched, ready to retort, but Darian moved first. He swept her up into his arms and strode out the door.

Ophelia stood to one side, watching the entire scene unfold with eyes filled with silent resentment.

Darian forcibly took Cecily to the hospital, where after a thorough examination, thankfully, her injury wasn't too severe.

The doctor treated Cecily's wound in the examination room.

Knowing that Cecily wouldn't want to see him, Darian left the hospital after dropping her off. Once her wound was attended to, waiting outside for Cecily, was Larkin.

Larkin greeted her with politeness befitting a gentleman. "Miss Cecily, Mr. Fitzgerald sent me to take you home."

"No need, I can get back on my own."

Cecily started walking slowly forward, with Larkin following behind. "Miss Cecily, it's hard to hail a cab at this hour. Allow me to drive you."

"No, that won't be necessary."

Yet Larkin persisted, gently shadowing her. Reaching the building's entrance, Cecily reached into her pocket only to find she'd brought neither her phone nor any money.

She stood there, flushed with embarrassment.

Larkin quickly approached. "Please, Miss Cecily."

At that moment, a black SUV pulled up swiftly, coming to a halt right in front of Cecily. The window rolled down, revealing a stunningly handsome face marked with brooding eyes and an irritable tone. "Get in."
Cecily cocked her head, ready to ask him what brought him here, but upon seeing the murderous look on his face, she swallowed her words.

Forget it.

Obediently, Cecily let out a small "Oh," and shuffled step by step to the other side.

The man's expression darkened further upon seeing this. He got out of the car, and as Cecily was halfway through, he bent down, scooped her up, opened the car door, and placed her inside before slamming the door with a "snap."

Cecily's shoulders jerked in shock.

Terrifying...

Larkin stood nearby, equally stunned by the man's potent aura of malice. A glance from the man's icy stare left him feeling like death itself had set eyes upon him.

Blaise took the driver's seat without a word and drove off.

Darian had not left but was leaning against his car, smoking continuously. There was a brooding hostility carved between his brows as the smoke swirled over his attractive features.

He saw Cecily being picked up by someone else. From a distance, in the dim light, he couldn't make out the man's face, but it was unmistakably a male.

A male? Her oh-so-important boyfriend?

Hmph.

Interesting.

Darian extinguished his cigarette and drove off.

Cecily sat in Blaise's car as a light rain began to fall outside, with gusts funneling through open windows and pressing her against the backseat.

Already feeling unwell, Cecily's dizziness intensified with the speed. Wincing, she turned to Blaise, "Blaise...ugh..."

Blaise remained silent.

"You think you're flying a plane?"

"Shut up."

Cecily tugged at her lip, the guy used to have severe mood swings but had mellowed over the past couple of years. As long as nobody rubbed him the wrong way, he usually didn't get this mad.

Who ticked him off this time?

Silently, Cecily tightened her seatbelt.

"Are you... in a bad mood?"

Silence.

"Who upset you?"

"You!"

"Me...ah!"

The car suddenly screeched to a halt.

Cecily's body lurched unexpectedly forward, and just as she thought she was going to hit the dashboard, a large hand swiftly braced her forehead, pushing her back into the seat.

Cecily gasped for air, looked up, and glared at him, "What are you doing?"
Blaise's lips twitched coldly, his eyes narrowing as he focused on the road ahead. "Someone's got a death wish."

Cecily's gaze shot up just in time to see a car recklessly pull ahead and stop right in front of them. If Blaise hadn't slammed the brakes in time, they would have been goners.

Frowning deeply, Cecily recognized the car, it belonged to Darian!
