Chapter 654 Arrogant and Ridiculous

The restaurant was in a swanky hotel. As Cecily got out of the car, her phone rang. It was Darian. He wanted to pick her up from work for lunch. While heading to the private room, Cecily said, "I'm not at the office. I bumped into Hunter and Keaen, so we're grabbing lunch. Wanna join?"

Darian's voice was soft, "Which hotel? I was planning to introduce you to some folks."

Not really paying attention, Cecily grabbed a waiter and asked for the hotel's name, then told Darian, "Who did you want me to meet?"

"Just some friends. They know the area well, could help us out. I'm nearby, see you soon." Darian replied.

"Cool."

"Cecily, hurry up!" Giselle and the others were ahead and called out when they saw her lagging.

Hunter glanced at Giselle, a bit puzzled, "You seem pretty chummy with Cecily."

Hunter knew his daughter's usual aloofness towards her siblings. Her sudden warmth towards Cecily was surprising.

Giselle blinked and smiled, "Dad, Keaen, everyone at the company says she's gonna be the heir. Is that true?"

"Who said that?" Hunter raised an eyebrow.

"That's the buzz at the office. Isn't it true? I asked Cecily, and she said she's staying long-term. Doesn't that mean she's planning to take over? Desmond's always with her. Looks like they've already pegged her as the future head of Bennett Group. I need to get on her good side. But Cecily's so cold to me. If it weren't for you and Keaen, I couldn't have invited her." Giselle said innocently, showing no malice.

Hunter and Keaen exchanged a look. Keaen asked, "Did Cecily actually say she wants to inherit the company?"

"Yep."

"She's naive." Hunter's face darkened, "Does she think being the head is that easy? Does she think we're all dead?"

Cecily hung up and walked over, noticing Hunter and Keaen looking at her weirdly. She asked, "What's up?"

Keaen snorted, "Nothing, just some people are so full of themselves, it's funny."

Cecily frowned, feeling the jab was aimed at her.

Desmond, who was with Cecily, bluntly said, "Keaen's baffling words are also laughable."

Giselle's red lips curved into a gentle smile. She stepped forward, "Cecily, Desmond, we were just talking about an employee who wants a promotion but isn't qualified. Keaen got mad, so he said that, right, Dad?"

"Yeah." Hunter nodded, his face neutral.

"Cecily, let's go. I'm starving." Giselle changed the subject.

Cecily stayed indifferent and didn't say much.

As they entered the private room, Keaen pulled Giselle aside and whispered, "Stay away from her. Don't let her ambition rub off on you. No need to suck up to her. No one knows who the heir will be."

Giselle glanced at Cecily, then hooked her arm around Keaen's and smiled, "I get it. But I think Cecily's pretty nice."

"Nice? Ambitious people are never nice. You don't know her methods. Eliza, who pretended to be her, was dealt with harshly. She's definitely not nice." Keaen's eyes narrowed.

"I heard it was bad. Eliza looked just like Cecily, right?" Giselle asked.

"Yeah, but Cecily won in the end." Keaen sneered, "So don't underestimate her. She's got tricks up her sleeve."

"If they looked alike, it's hard to tell who's real. How can you be sure this Cecily is the real one?" Giselle looked at Cecily, then back at Keaen.

Keaen replied, "They did a DNA test back then."

"That was then. Who knows if things have changed? After one test, no one would do another. What if the fake one slipped in?" Giselle said.
