Chapter 115 Daddy has Gone Mute

At that moment, Darian seemed to notice something and lifted his deep-set eyes towards Cecily's direction.

Cecily paused, turned around to head back, but then snapped out of it, feeling like it was all too deliberate. She forced her feet to a stop.

Larkin and Griffin stood nearby, watching her odd behavior with confusion, scratching their heads in bewilderment.

Cecily felt a chilling gaze sharply fixed on her, making her shiver uncontrollably.

Darian's dark eyes watched Cecily, growing more intense by the second.

'Is this woman actually approaching him?'

'Ha.'

'Don't think just because she comes to him voluntarily, he will engage in conversation with her.'

With that thought, Darian subconsciously straightened his expensive and immaculate suit.

Cecily hesitated on the spot for what seemed like an eternity, nervously picking at her nails until they were almost bleeding.

The memories of that night assailed her mind, and she couldn't forget them; there was no way she could communicate with Darian without stirring emotions.

Moreover, his stare was so icy, it was as if he wished her dead.

He probably didn't want to see her either.

Cecily shook her head as if to shake off the chaotic thoughts, then crouched down in front of Griffin, patting his head, "Honey, why don't you go soothe your dad? There's something I need to take care of back home, I'll leave first."

"Mom..."

Cecily turned on her heels and bolted without hesitation.

Darian’s gaze lingered on Cecily’s departing figure, his brow furrowed, and his handsome face turned instantly cold.

She left! Again!

He pinched the bridge of his nose and pursed his lips.

What was he really expecting?

Was he waiting for that woman to have a change of heart and seek him out voluntarily?

It was as if his own thoughts had betrayed him; Darian's expression was now so ferocious, it was uncontrollable.

When Larkin opened the car door to let Griffin inside, a suffocating and ominous atmosphere hit them instantly.

Larkin shuddered, wondering why Mr. Fitzgerald seemed even angrier than before.

Griffin's round eyes looked up at Darian, moving closer, he blinked and asked, "Daddy, what's wrong?"

Darian didn't respond.

"Are you in a bad mood?"

Darian remained silent.

"Why are you in a bad mood?"

Darian still didn't speak.

"Daddy? Daddy! Daddy? Daddy—Daddy, have you gone mute? Daddy, please talk to me~"

Darian lifted a hand to press at his forehead, then turned to look at the little guy beside him, "Rowan!"

"Ah-ha?" Griffin blinked his charming big eyes, looking at Darian with an expression that said 'hurry up, I'm all ears'.

"You're very loud, be quiet."

"Oh."

Griffin pouted, nodded obediently, and after a few seconds, leaned in again and asked, "Daddy, why are you in a bad mood?"

Darian became silent again.

Darian sighed, looked at him deeply, and said, "It's none of your business."

"How can it not be my business? Mommy said to try to cheer you up, to stop you from being unhappy."

Darian's eyes narrowed slightly, "She told you to cheer me up?"

Griffin nodded vigorously, "Yep, Mommy said it herself, and you should listen to Mommy."

Darian let out a sarcastic laugh.

Who was responsible for his unhappiness? She runs off leaving a child to console him, what a joke!

Darian's facial expression softened a bit as he turned to look at the kid next to him, "What else did she say?"

Griffin saw that mentioning his mom improved Darian's mood, and his little mind started to whirl, seemingly understanding something, and he immediately began to work his brain.

"Mommy said you should eat your meals properly, sleep well, and especially, keep sending me over to her place for no reason. And pick me up less often, it's better if I just stay with her, yep, that's what Mommy said."

Darian gave him a glance and asked flatly, "Anything else?"

"Anything else?" Griffin tilted his head, straining his mind trying to think what else his dearest Mommy could have said to his grumpy Daddy, then he waved his hand, "Nope, that's all Mommy said."

Darian looked at the little guy beside him, amused to the point of laughter, "Really? For real?"

"Really, really, cross my heart and hope to die," Griffin flashed an incredibly sincere smile at Darian.

Darian saw the lifelike expression on the child's face, a trace of a smile appeared, "If you're lying, your nose will grow longer?"

"No way."

He definitely didn't want a longer nose.

Darian gave him a sidelong glance, "Quite the clever little guy, aren't you?"

If Cecily would have talked that much to him, she wouldn't be Cecily.

"Daddy, are you happy now?"

Darian dropped the hint of a smile from his lips and maintained a stoic expression, "No."

Griffin puffed out his cheeks upon hearing this.

'Man, this is tough. Why is Dad so hard to coax?'

"Then continue being mad."

Darian was left speechless.

Larkin was speechless as well.

Though Darian said that, his facial expression gave him away.

Darian was far from angry now; Larkin even felt like there was a spring breeze in the carriage.

Larkin couldn’t believe that the big boss was so easy to appease. It seemed that all it took was a single word from Miss Cecily, which he found incredible.

Back at the Fitzgerald's residence, Griffin scurried after Darian, planning to throw his backpack on the couch only to find someone already seated there.

Sandra sat elegantly on the sofa, a cup of coffee in her hands. Despite the bandage wrapped around her head and the cast on her arm, these did nothing to diminish her grace.

She cast a glance at Griffin, her eyes brimming with undeniable disdain.

"Old witch?" blurted out Griffin without hesitation.

Sandra's face darkened, "What did you call me?"

Griffin quickly covered his mouth, turning to look at Darian.

Sandra was fuming, "Darian, you see this? Sometimes the kid needs to be punished."

Griffin slyly stuck out his tongue.

Darian looked over at Sandra with a detached gaze, "Why are you back?"

"I didn't want to stay in the hospital. Can't I come back to my son's house?"

Sandra had spent the past few days in the hospital feeling neglected and had amassed a good deal of resentment.

It irritated her that her son was also cross with her over someone else's child.

Sandra knew her son followed through with his word, and she feared he might actually leave her alone in the hospital for the holidays.

"All right, stop looking at me like that. As long as the kid doesn't bother me, I definitely won't lay a finger on him," Sandra conceded.

Darian withdrew his gaze, calmly responded with a nod, acknowledging her statement.

"Rowan, go upstairs to bed," Darian told the young boy who still wanted to play video games for a bit longer.

"I want to play a little more."

"It's late."

"Oh." Griffin smacked his lips, reluctantly put down his game controller, and said, "Night, Daddy."

Then, looking at Sandra, remembering his mother's teachings about politeness, he added, "Goodnight, Grandma."

Sandra was taken aback, almost choking on her coffee, "What did you call me?"

Her reaction made Griffin feel he had made another mistake. He blinked, looked back at Darian with an inquiring expression.

Darian smiled, "That's right, off you go."

With Darian's permission, Griffin ran upstairs.

Sandra was still in shock.

She knew Rowan was not her biological grandson, and she had always been harsh to him. The child was stubborn too; he didn't want anything to do with her because of how she treated him.

Therefore, she had never heard the child call her "Grandma" before.

Grandma...

It was a title she didn't find herself opposed to.

...

At the Flores residence, Ophelia' room was in complete disarray.

Everything that Ophelia could get her hands on had become a pile of broken pieces.

"Waste of space!"

With a "crash," a glass decoration was furiously smashed against the wall. Her eyes bloodshot with anger, Ophelia trembled with fury.

Darian wanted to call off their engagement, and Ophelia was utterly panicked.

However, sending people to investigate Cecily had yielded nothing but failure; what else but useless could they be?

"Ophelia..."

Ophelia glared her way, "Don't talk to me. Didn't you say she had a child? Why haven't you found anything after two days?"
