Chapter 457 No Matter Who It Is, It's Not Allowed

"I can't stand them, but I have to fake it," Olivia said, forcing a smile while watching Owen's reaction.

"Dad, I'm Darian's uncle. I'd never hurt him. Sure, we have our issues, but we're family. I'm your son, Darian's real uncle."

Now he was playing the family card.

They always did this when things went south.

Cecily smirked. She knew they'd try to defend themselves.

No big deal.

She had evidence.

"I..." Cecily started, but Owen cut her off.

Owen's stern voice boomed, "Pack your stuff and move to the backyard now. Reflect on your actions. Don't come to the front yard without my permission. Stay away from the company for now. Darian will handle your projects. If this happens again, I won't be so lenient. Got it?"

Cecily watched Owen's scolding, her brows furrowing.

Josep kept his head down, nodding. "Dad, we understand. We'll leave right away."

Josep, Olivia, and Aurelia quickly left.

Cecily was confused.

What was Owen doing?

Josep's intentions were clear, yet Owen had let him off so easily.

Cecily was stunned by Owen's response.

She was upset.

She and Darian had worked hard to gather evidence, only for Owen to brush it off.

Moving to the backyard was reversible. Reflecting on their actions meant nothing. Banning him from the company and handing projects to Darian was pointless as long as Josep was a shareholder.

How was this a punishment?

"This isn't right," Cecily said bluntly. "This punishment is too lenient. They tried to harm Darian..."

Owen stood up, sighed, and interrupted, "I'm tired. This ends here. I promise it won't happen again."

Owen called Sawyer to help him leave. Cecily watched him go, ready to follow, but Darian stopped her.

Cecily angrily shook off Darian's hand. "Why are you stopping me? What does this mean? Josep did so much, why is Owen still favoring him?"

Darian knew Cecily was mad.

But in the Fitzgerald family, minor squabbles were always handled this way. Owen would never send Josep and Olivia to jail.

Even if outsiders found out and they were taken to the police, Owen would protect Josep and cover it up.

To Owen, reputation was everything, and he couldn't send his own son to jail.

In the Fitzgerald family, these schemes were nothing.

Darian held Cecily's shoulders. "Grandpa has shown his stance for minor issues. Even if you want him to be harsher, he can't. Going to him again will just annoy him."

"Minor issues?" Cecily scoffed. "Your family had a really high tolerance for things like this."

Annoyed, Cecily took a deep breath, ignored Darian's explanations, and walked away.

Darian's brow pinched.

Cecily had quite a temper when she was angry.

"Boss, should we still follow the plan?" Larkin asked cautiously.

"Yes."

Owen couldn't punish Josep harshly, but Darian could. Over the years, Josep had built many businesses outside. What he cared about most was money and power, so Darian would destroy them all.

As Cecily left Fitzgerald Manor, Josep appeared, looking sinister.

"Did you think Dad would really punish me? I'm his only son. He can't bear to."

Cecily glanced at Josep. "Family ties are useful, but they will eventually run out."

"Whether they run out or not, I won this time. Dad's still on my side."

Cecily chuckled. "Then you better hope he stays soft-hearted."

With that, Cecily got in her car and drove away.

Josep watched Cecily's car drive away, his eyes growing colder.

Upstairs, Owen stood by the window, staring down at Josep with a heavy, conflicted gaze.

Sawyer walked in with a cup of water. "Calm down and have some water."

Owen took the cup and sighed deeply. "Sawyer, am I being too lenient with Josep?"

Sawyer glanced out the window. "You have your reasons. They're your family, and your way of handling things isn't wrong."

Owen shook his head, withdrew his gaze, and said nothing more.

"Any progress on what I asked you to investigate?"

Sawyer lowered his head silently.

Owen's eyes narrowed.

Sawyer quickly said, "Give me a bit more time, and there will be progress."

Owen closed his eyes, knowing that it would take time to uncover something from so many years ago. "Alright, go. Keep an eye on Josep's family. I don't want this happening again."

"Alright, don't worry."

Sawyer walked out, found a secluded spot, and made a phone call.

The person on the other end answered, "What's up?"

"Cecily found out Patrick's death wasn't an accident. Owen's been investigating too. If I keep saying I haven't found anything, he'll get suspicious. So, on your end..."

The other person was silent for a few seconds before saying, "Then find a good time to reveal the truth. It was his own son who did it. No matter how he investigates, it won't lead back to us. It's time for the Fitzgerald family to be thrown into chaos."

"Got it, I understand."

Cecily went straight home and ran into Gary, who was about to leave.

"Cecily, weren't you at the Fitzgeralds? Didn't things get resolved? You look upset," Gary asked.

Cecily sighed. "It's been resolved, but it feels like it isn't."

She had said everything, but the damage to the enemy was minimal.

"Is Mom home?"

"Bryan just came to see her and made her so angry she went back to her room. But Aurelie is here, keeping her company."

"Got it." Cecily nodded, noticing Gary holding a broom. "Why are you holding a broom?"

Gary smiled and raised his eyebrows toward the tree at the entrance. "To chase someone away."

Cecily looked over and finally noticed Bryan standing there. She hadn't even seen him earlier.

Cecily withdrew her gaze. "Go ahead, I support you."

Cecily walked into the living room. Because of recent events, Rowan and Griffin had been staying home and not going to school.

Rowan and Griffin happily ran toward Cecily when they saw her return. Griffin asked, "Mommy, you're back. Where's Daddy? Didn't you both go to see Great-Grandpa?"

"Your daddy went back to the hospital. He hasn't been officially discharged yet, he was just temporarily out."

Rowan pursed his lips. "Mommy, did something happen? You don't look happy."

Griffin furrowed his little brows. "Did Daddy make you angry? Is that why you didn't come back together?"

Rowan and Griffin were very perceptive and could always sense Cecily's emotions.

"Mommy, tell us, did Daddy make you angry?"

"It wasn't him. You don't need to worry about it." Cecily patted their little heads.

"Then you must have been wronged at Great-Grandpa's place," Rowan said with a cold face.

"Definitely," Griffin said, putting his little hands on his hips, looking ready to avenge Cecily.

Cecily couldn't help but laugh at their stance.

"Really, it's nothing. Look, I am quite happy." Cecily smiled at them. "Alright, you two play in the living room. I am going to check on your grandma," Cecily said, then went

"Mommy is always like this, she treats us like kids and doesn't tell us anything," Griffin huffed.

Rowan calmly walked to the coffee table, opened his laptop. "There's a surveillance camera in the Fitzgerald Manor's living room facing the entrance. It should have recorded their conversation."

"Great idea!" Griffin's eyes lit up. He ran to Rowan's side. "Rowan, try it. Just follow what I taught you. Consider this practice. We need to find out who made Mommy upset."

No one was allowed to bully their mommy, no matter who it was.
