Chapter 469 Signing the Share Transfer Agreement
Owen stared at Cecily, guilt washing over him. "I've hurt you so much. I should've listened to you earlier."
He opened a cabinet, revealing a safe. Right in front of Cecily, Owen entered the code, opened the safe, and pulled out a document.
Cecily saw it was a share transfer agreement.
While she was still puzzled, Owen sat at the desk, signed the agreement, and looked at her. "Come here."
He placed the signed agreement in front of her. "Sign it."
Cecily was stunned. "You want me to sign?"
She knew what this meant. Thirty percent of Fitzgerald Group's shares were invaluable.
Owen nodded. "It's for you and Darian."
"It's for me and Darian, but I have to keep quiet and transfer the shares to Darian later?"
Owen nodded. "You're smart."
"Even now, you want to hide this from Darian and protect Josep?"
Cecily didn't sign, looking at Owen in confusion.
Owen knew Josep had killed his brother. Was he still going to protect him?
That was a human life.
"What do you want me to do? Send my own son to prison and make it public that he killed his brother? Cecily, he's the only son I have left. I can't do it. Even if I send him to prison, Patrick won't come back."
"So Patrick just dies in vain, and the murderer gets away? Is that fair to Patrick and Darian?" Cecily clenched her fists in anger.
Owen sighed deeply, eyes full of weariness and despair.
How could he not be angry and resentful?
"He did this to ensure no one will compete with him for Fitzgerald Group when I die. Since he's so fixated on it, I'll give full control to Darian. I'll send Josep and his family abroad, never to return. That will be more painful for him than prison."
"Sending him abroad won't stop him. This isn't the first time he's targeted Darian. If he dared to do it the first time, he'll try again. He won't stop until he gets what he wants." Cecily looked at Owen, her voice serious.
Owen nodded. "Then break his arms and legs. Even if he spends the rest of his life in bed, at least give him a chance to live. And this thirty percent of the shares is compensation for you and Darian."
"You called me because you know Darian wouldn't let Josep go, and I'm easier to persuade, right?"
Owen didn't deny it. "In some matters, you're calmer than Darian and better at analyzing the pros and cons."
Cecily sneered and shook her head. "No, just say I'm more likely to be soft-hearted."
"Cecily, please, just do me this favor. Sign the agreement and give it to Darian. Let Patrick's matter rest."
Owen was angry and heartbroken, but he felt helpless.
Cecily shook her head. "Darian deserves to know. I can't decide this for him. Sorry, I can't agree to this."
She turned to leave.
"Wait," Owen called out, clutching his chest and coughing violently. "Whether you agree or not, at least take the agreement for Darian."
Cecily paused.
"I'm old. Who knows when I'll go? Do you want Fitzgerald Group to fall into Josep's hands? If I die, Josep inherits first!"
"You're fine. Don't talk like that."
Owen shook his head. "No one knows what will happen in the future. I must plan ahead. You're smart. Take it now."
Cecily hesitated, then turned back.
Owen handed her the pen. "Sign it."
She looked at the agreement, then at Owen, and pressed her lips together.
Owen urged, "Sign it."
Cecily took the pen and signed her name quickly.
Her hands trembled. She wasn't sure if this was the right decision.
Owen sighed in relief when he saw her sign the document. "Good, keep it safe. I'll have my lawyer handle the details. Don't tell anyone about this. It'll be safest for you."
Cecily was about to become the largest shareholder of Fitzgerald Group.
She took a deep breath. "I understand."
Owen nodded and gave her a rare kind smile. "Go home, and drive safely."
"I have a question."
"Go ahead."
" Aren't you afraid I'll keep something this important? Darian and I are divorced. If it's in my name, it's mine alone."
Owen chuckled. "I trust you. Even if you did keep it, it doesn't matter. Your son is a Fitzgerald. What belongs to the Fitzgeralds will always be ours."
Cecily smiled and nodded.
As she left Fitzgerald Manor, she felt a heavy weight in her heart.
At the gate, she looked back at the manor, feeling uneasy, like something bad was about to happen.
Cecily clenched her fists, took a few steps, then turned back toward the manor.
But after a few steps, she felt dizzy. Her legs gave way, and she collapsed.
"Cecily?" Someone called out anxiously from behind.
She didn't have time to see who it was before she lost consciousness.
