Chapter 652 Want to Meet Her
Bennett Group's smack dab in the swankiest part of Detroit.
The Bennett Group building is massive and screams luxury. Cecily strolled into the lobby, looking around like she owned the place. But if you looked closely, you'd see her mind was somewhere else.
She showed up with Desmond, but Darian was too busy to tag along.
Desmond led the way for Cecily. The employees couldn't help but notice one of the Bennett family big shots personally escorting this lady and started whispering about who she might be.
"Isn't that Desmond from the Bennett family? Who's the chick he's with? For him to be showing her around, she must be a big deal, right?" a receptionist asked.
"Didn't you see her face?" another chimed in.
"She's really pretty," the first one replied.
"That's not the point. She looks like Vivienne! Didn't you notice? She must be the daughter Vivienne found recently."
"Cecily? No wonder Desmond's showing her around. But I thought she was with Silver Frost Capital. Why's she back now? And why's she here at the company? Vivienne hasn't been around for ages. Maybe she's planning to hand over the company to her?"
"I don't know, maybe..."
The two receptionists kept gossiping.
"What are you two talking about?" a woman interrupted.
They immediately looked down when they saw who it was. "Giselle Bennett."
The newcomer was rocking black heels, had a tall and slender figure, and was dressed in a sharp white business suit. Her face was flawless with perfect makeup, and she had this stern, commanding vibe that made people not want to mess with her.
"What were you talking about?" she asked again, her voice icy.
The two exchanged nervous glances and swallowed hard. "Giselle, Desmond just brought Cecily to the company. It's our first time seeing her, so we were just talking about it. We won't do it again."
They kept their heads down, too scared to look at Giselle.
Giselle was Hunter's daughter, back from abroad. She'd been with the company for a year, and everyone knew she had high standards and was super strict. Plus, she had a bad temper and was unpredictable. The two were already shaking, worried they'd get fired over a few words.
"Cecily?" Giselle squinted, looking in the direction they had been. "The blind one?"
The first time Giselle met Cecily, Cecily's eyes hadn't been treated yet, and she couldn't see. Her most vivid memory of Cecily was her blindness.
The two were flustered under Giselle's gaze. Then they heard her ask again, "What is she here for?"
"Not sure, but Cecily is Vivienne's daughter and the future heir to the company. She's probably here to get to know the place better," one of the receptionists guessed. Giselle's cold expression immediately darkened, though the receptionist didn't notice.
"Look up," Giselle said to the receptionist.
Reluctantly, the two looked up. Giselle crossed her arms and smirked, "You really think she’s gonna take over the company just because she came back?"
The receptionist was caught off guard by the question. She stammered, "Well, she's Vivienne's only daughter. So, I guess she should, right?"
Giselle's smile stayed, but it had a menacing edge. "The future's never certain. Just because she's Vivienne's daughter doesn't mean it's a done deal."
Under Giselle's intense stare, the receptionist mumbled, "I'm sorry, Giselle. I was just guessing. I won't say anything like that again."
Giselle sneered, turned on her heel, and walked away. The two receptionists let out a sigh of relief, thinking they were off the hook. But then Giselle turned back and said slowly, "Head to HR to resign. Chatting during work hours? Bennett Group doesn't need employees like you."
The two were stunned and looked up, "Giselle!"
Ignoring them, Giselle stepped into the elevator and left.
In the elevator, Giselle pulled out her phone and made a call. "I heard Cecily's at the company. Where is she now? I want to meet her. Okay, got it."
After hanging up, a hint of mockery and disdain flashed in her eyes.
Desmond was showing Cecily around the company. Vivienne had already given Cecily some background info, so she had a basic understanding.
Cecily was heading towards the elevator with Desmond when Giselle, smiling, approached them. "Cecily?"
Cecily looked puzzled, "Who are you?"
Giselle, in her high heels, walked up with a gentle smile, "Don't you remember me? We talked before your eyes were healed."
Cecily paused. Before her eyes were treated, Hunter had introduced his daughter to her once. "Are you Giselle?"
Giselle smiled and warmly linked arms with Cecily, "You remember me, that's great."
Cecily didn't push her away but responded with a polite smile. She wasn't used to being so close to strangers and subtly stepped aside to create some distance.
Giselle seemed not to notice and asked, "Cecily, why are you at the company today? I thought you were busy at Silver Frost Capital. How do you have the time?"
"Vivienne arranged for Cecily to come to the company. She's the future heir and should get to know the place," Desmond answered for Cecily.
Cecily glanced at Desmond. His tone was a bit cold, and she sensed some of his hostility towards Giselle.
Cecily wasn't familiar with Giselle. Their first meeting had been uneventful, so she didn't particularly like or dislike her.
"I see." Giselle blinked, "But there's no rush. You seem like someone who should be enjoying life. Why work so hard? You should be relaxed."
"Cecily, you've seen enough, right? It's almost noon. Let me take you to lunch. This is technically our first real meeting, and we must have a lot to talk about. Let's go." Giselle linked arms with Cecily, trying to lead her into the elevator.
