Chapter 145 Must Get Checked Tomorrow
“Huh.” Darian let out a cold laugh. “Get up so quick if you are this energetic.”
With that, Darian turned and went into the bathroom.
Cecily suppressed the anger in her heart, quickly got up, grabbed the pants lying beside the bed, put them on without hesitation, and was about to pull the door open to leave.
“Where do you think you’re going?” The man’s icy voice stopped Cecily’s movements.
Cecily clenched the doorknob, still made a dash for it but was pushed back inside by the bodyguard standing at the door.
Darian had already changed into a clean, crisp suit and was now sitting on a black leather couch, staring silently at her.
Cecily’s hands, hanging at her sides, tightened slightly. “What else do you want?”
“You’re going for a check-up tomorrow.”
“Who?”
“You!”
“What kind of check-up?”
“A full body exam!”
Cecily frowned. “Why? I’m not sick!”
“You look sick to me.”
“You’re the one who's sick."
“Yes, I'm sick. But it's not the first day you've known. Just go take the check-up. Why all the fuss?”
Cecily was full of doubts.
Why did this man suddenly want her to get checked? Was he out of his mind?
This was very strange.
Darian’s gaze remained on Cecily, watching the confusion in her eyes. Without explaining, he gave a mocking smirk. “Cecily, I really want to see what other things you’ve been hiding from me.”
“I don’t mind finding out all your little secrets one by one.”
A wave of nervousness surged in Cecily’s heart. Seeing the certainty in Darian’s eyes, she felt like he knew something.
This feeling made Cecily very uneasy.
Cecily pursed her lips. “I’m not sick, I won’t go. You have no right to control me.”
Darian looked at the stubborn look in Cecily's eyes and chuckled. “Do you think I’m asking for your opinion?”
“Darian, don’t you understand human speech? I said you have no right to control me.”
"Mhm," Darian responded nonchalantly, "And then?"
Cecily looked at Darian, her frustration building as she clenched her teeth. Why did she always forget that there was never any point in trying to negotiate with Darian?
*Knock, knock.*
The double tap on the door caught their attention.
Darian glanced toward the entrance and curtly said, "Come in."
The doctor from Ophelia's side entered and spoke, "Mr. Darian, Miss Ophelia is not in great spirits. She hopes you can come by."
"Got it." Darian frowned, his gaze inadvertently sweeping over Cecily, a subtle expectation stirring within him.
However, Cecily’s face didn't show any of the concern he was hoping for. She was indifferent as she said, "Your sweetheart is calling for you, you better go."
A surge of irritation pulsed through Darian's brow at the cold detachment in Cecily's eyes, the sting sharpening the edges of his mood.
Lips pressed thinly together, Darian stared at her for a tense two seconds before he stood up abruptly and strode out.
Cecily was ready to follow him and take the opportunity to leave.
However, a second later, the door slammed shut right in front of her.
She heard his muffled command from outside, "Keep an eye on her; she doesn't leave."
Clenching her teeth, Cecily kicked the door in a flare of embarrassment and fury, cursing Darian in her mind.
Glancing at her phone, Cecily realized it was already past eleven. She decided to call the housekeeper so her family wouldn't worry.
As she was about to place the call, she noticed that in the last half-hour, Rowan had tried to reach her multiple times, and one call had gone through.
A chill rushed through her body.
Who had answered the call?
Darian?
With a surge of panic, she immediately called Rowan back.
The phone rang for a long time on the other end as if the person hesitated before finally answering.
"Rowan!"
"Mommy." Hearing Cecily's voice, Rowan dared to speak. "Mommy, I called you earlier, and daddy picked up."
A chill ran down her spine in an instant.
"So Darian knows about the child now?" Cecily pressed down the unease in her heart and asked, "What did he say?"
"He didn't say anything."
Cecily felt like she had been hit by a truck. Darian had always been suspicious, and now it seemed he might know everything.
Cecily raised her hand to pinch the bridge of her nose, "Alright, Mommy understands. Go to sleep, Rowan."
"Mommy… sorry…" Rowan said weakly, "Did I cause trouble for you?"
"No, how could this be your fault? Mommy will take care of it. You just rest easy." After soothing the little one for a while, Cecily finally hung up the phone.
After ending the call, Cecily paced back and forth anxiously. If Darian knew everything, it would be a big problem.
A man like Darian couldn't tolerate being deceived like this. Although she didn't yet know Darian's attitude, Cecily already had a very bad feeling.
No, she couldn't just wait around. Since Darian knew everything, she had to talk to him.
Now in Ophelia's room.
Ophelia was leaning on the bed, her eyes full of tears. When she saw Darian coming, her expression trembled with vulnerability, "Darian, I'm sorry, I really didn't mean to disturb you and Miss Cecily. I was just so scared."
Darian frowned, "Scared of what? There's already someone stationed outside your door. Get some rest."
Ophelia bit her lip and lunged forward, wrapping her arms around Darian's waist, shaking her head, "No, without you here, I don't feel safe. Can't you stay with me? Just for tonight? I'm really scared. My whole body hurts, and I feel like I can't go on…"
She buried her face and couldn't hold back her sobs.
The doctor nearby also spoke up, "Miss Ophelia has just experienced a near-drowning. Her body is still quite weak, and it's best not to get overly emotional."
Darian furrowed his brow and reached out to push Ophelia away, but Ophelia clung to him with all her might, crying and pleading, "Please don't leave me, I'm really scared..."
Annoyance flickered in Darian's eyes. "Let go of me first."
"No, Darian, if I let go, you'll just leave again. You're going to see Miss Cecily, aren't you?" Ophelia's voice was tinged with despair. "Am I that inferior to her in your eyes? I tried to set her up, and you chastised me for it, but what about me? I'm the one who got hurt today. She intentionally dragged me into the water, trying to drown me. Why won't you stand up for me?"
"Are you still bitter about what happened before? I feel like your attitude towards me has completely changed. Do you hate me now? Just tell me what I'm doing wrong and I'll change. I'm begging you, just don't leave me..."
Darian's gaze lowered, a film of ice forming in the depth of his eyes.
He had already sent Larkin to investigate the incident with the water, but the details were still unclear.
Yet in his heart, he didn't believe Cecily to be someone who played such dirty tricks.
