Chapter 628 Aurelie Realized Everything Was Wrong

"You are daydreaming!" Before Terry could even get a word in, Stanley shot down Nathaniel's request.

Fifteen percent of the shares? Yeah, right.

Terry's face twitched. "Nathaniel, don't push it, man. You know that's never gonna happen."

"Then no deal." Nathaniel knew Terry wouldn't bite. He never planned on getting those shares anyway.

"You really wanna go to war with the Kensington family? Nathaniel, listen up. Pissing off the Kensingtons ain't gonna do you any good." Terry was still trying to talk some sense into him.

Nathaniel found it hilarious.

No good in falling out with the Kensingtons? Since he got outta the slammer, when had things ever been good with them?

Even if he played nice, they wouldn't cut him any slack.

He knew exactly what Terry was up to—just trying to keep him chill for now and then screw him over later.

But Nathaniel wasn't giving them that shot anymore.

A little recording device in Nathaniel's suit pocket was blinking, catching every word.

The stuff he posted online wasn't enough to nail them. Eleven years had passed. Even if he tracked down the folks who set him up and got them to spill, Stanley could just say he paid them off and toss the evidence.

But this recording? Different ball game. It was their own words.

Yeah, it was kinda sneaky, but it was enough to make them fess up.

"Dad, I'm sorry, but I'm not that nineteen-year-old kid from eleven years ago you could just stomp on. Your threats don't scare me now," Nathaniel said.

Terry glared at Nathaniel, his stare so intense it was suffocating.

But Nathaniel didn't flinch.

Stanley's eyes were on fire. "Nathaniel, you really think if you walk outta here today, I can't make you disappear without a trace?"

Nathaniel raised an eyebrow.

Stanley was still trying to scare him.

"Then I guess I should hit up the police first and tell 'em if I go missing, no need to look far—it's you."

Stanley gritted his teeth and clenched his fists.

He was so mad he wanted to tear Nathaniel apart, but he couldn't do squat. The rage was eating him up inside.

With Stanley's eyes burning holes in his back, Nathaniel walked out of the conference room.

Terry slumped into a chair nearby, lit a cigarette, took a deep drag, and narrowed his eyes dangerously, filled with murderous intent.

This whole mess was blowing up online, and Aurelie saw it when she checked her phone in the morning.

Nathaniel was framed and falsely accused by the Kensington family back then?

No way.

Wasn't he locked up for accidentally killing a thug while saving her? What did that have to do with the Kensingtons?

Aurelie kept scrolling through the news, her heart racing as she read the evidence.

The words were like a punch to the gut: Nathaniel was framed by Stanley and thrown in jail!

She remembered those thugs who jumped her back then. They were just after her, no ties to the Kensington family or any big conspiracy. Just some lowlifes who saw an easy target.

And Nathaniel getting framed by Stanley? That had nothing to do with her attack. The only thing in common was both involved accidental deaths in fights.

Suddenly, a thought hit her like a ton of bricks, one she couldn't shake.

If Nathaniel was framed by Stanley, then he had nothing to do with saving her.

He didn't save her?

She wasn't even sure if it was Nathaniel who saved her back then.

She'd just assumed it was him because she saw the news later that he got locked up for excessive self-defense and manslaughter.

It all seemed to fit.

So, she just went with it, believing it was Nathaniel who saved her without a second thought.

But now, with these news reports, she realized she might've been wrong for eleven years.

The person who saved her wasn't Nathaniel.

But how could that be?

She'd mentioned it to Nathaniel several times, and he never denied it. Didn't that mean he admitted it?

He admitted he saved her, but now it turned out he didn't.

Aurelie frantically searched for her phone.

She needed to call Nathaniel and get to the bottom of this.

This was huge for her. She'd felt regret and guilt for eleven years, especially during his time in prison. She'd lived every day in tormenting guilt.

Now she was being told she might've been wrong, that the person who saved her might not have been Nathaniel but someone else.

She'd been grateful to the wrong person!

It was driving her nuts.

It took her a moment to realize she was holding her phone. Her fingers shook as she dialed Nathaniel's number.

As she waited for him to pick up, Aurelie's heart pounded like crazy.

After a few seconds, the call connected.

After a moment of silence, Aurelie opened her mouth but found she didn't know how to ask the question.

On the other end, Nathaniel already knew what she wanted to ask.

With everything out in the open, he couldn't hide the truth from her anymore.

He'd been ready for this, but when Aurelie's call came, he was at a loss for words.

Should he tell her he knew all along he hadn't saved her, and let her keep believing the lie?

Nathaniel's earlier bravado in the conference room was gone.

The silence was suffocating.

Finally, Nathaniel couldn't hold back and spoke first, "Open the door."

Aurelie swallowed hard, walked to the door, and opened it. Nathaniel was standing there.

Holding their phones, they locked eyes.
