Chapter 473 The Fitzgerald Family Would Face Significant Turmoil
Sawyer jumped in, "Owen's always been healthy, but he fainted right after Miss Watson visited. She locked herself in his room, and when I checked on him, Owen was like this. Could it be her?"
Josep was stunned by Sawyer's words.
Sawyer knew everything but was still saying that. Was he trying to help?
Josep quickly caught on. "Cecily and my dad always had issues. She was alone with him? Did anyone else visit?"
"No one else visited him, just Miss Watson."
Josep was sure now—Sawyer was helping him.
Sawyer stayed calm. "Josep, you need to handle Owen's affairs. The Fitzgerald family needs you. You can't fall apart."
Sawyer's words snapped Josep out of it. He wiped his tears and stood up.
"My dad's death is suspicious, and Cecily was the last to see him. She must be involved."
Josep looked at Owen with determination. "Dad, if Cecily caused this, she won't get away with it."
He wiped his tears and left, taking one last look at Owen. Memories of Owen flashed by but quickly faded, replaced by visions of running the company and becoming chairman.
Any guilt vanished, replaced by ambition. Josep's face hardened as he walked out.
Mark approached him and whispered, "Sir, Darian ate the food we sent and passed out. He's in the ward, still unconscious. The doctor found nothing wrong, just like Eliza said."
Josep's eyes narrowed. "He ate it that easily?"
"Yes, our people saw him eat it. No suspicions."
"Good." Josep smiled.
Everything was going as planned. Owen was dead, Darian was out, and only Cecily was left.
"Cecily's responsible for Owen's death. Arrest her."
"I've checked. She's in this hospital. She fainted after leaving Fitzgerald Manor."
"Then what are you waiting for? Arrest her."
"Alright."
Josep smirked, feeling in control.
Sawyer walked out, and Josep called out, "Sawyer."
Josep approached him. "You helped me. What do you want?"
Sawyer looked puzzled. "Helped you? I'm just stating facts. Cecily was the last to see Owen. How is that helping you?"
Josep stared at Sawyer. They locked eyes.
Josep smiled first. "Yes, Cecily caused Owen's death."
Sawyer nodded. "Josep, I have other things to see to. I'm sure Owen will have a grand funeral. I'll be leaving."
"Wait." Josep squinted at Sawyer.
"Anything else?"
"You betrayed Owen long ago. Who are you working for now? What's their goal?"
Sawyer smirked. "I don't take orders. I'm looking out for myself. If I said you caused Owen's condition, would you spare me? Don't worry. I lied for you, which makes us teammates. I'll take orders from you next if you need me to do that."
Josep smirked. "Sawyer, you're a smart guy."
Sawyer nodded, saying nothing more.
Cecily was anxiously waiting for news in the ward when Vivienne's informant rushed in.
Vivienne looked serious. "Owen was brought to the hospital two hours ago. His condition is unknown, and Sandra is missing."
Cecily clenched her fist.
Suddenly, the door burst open.
Mark stormed in with a group of Fitzgerald family bodyguards, making the room feel cramped.
They were Josep's people.
Cecily frowned but stayed calm. "What do you want?"
"Cecily, Owen is dead. You were the last to see him. We suspect you killed him. Come with us."
A buzzing filled her ears.
Cecily's calm turned to shock. Owen was dead?
He had been fine when she left, and now he was dead?
The news left Cecily stunned. Even Vivienne was momentarily speechless.
Cecily's fingers tightened around her clothes.
How could this be? She had checked Owen's pulse; he was stable.
"Impossible, Owen was fine when I left."
"You're lying. A servant found Owen unconscious right after you left. He died before they could save him. You killed him."
"When I left, Owen was stable. Unless he had a major shock causing arrhythmia, he wouldn't have fainted. What did Josep do to provoke him?"
Mark snapped, "You killed Owen and now you're trying to blame Josep."
Cecily ignored him. "Even with arrhythmia, there would have been time for treatment. If he was found right after I left and taken to the hospital immediately, he wouldn't have died. Someone delayed taking him to the hospital."
Mark's face turned angry as Cecily hit the mark.
"Stop making excuses. You killed Owen and ran away, causing his death. Take her to the police station."
"Let's see who'll dare do that," Vivienne said firmly. "You think you can convict someone with just words? Who gave you the guts?"
Mark gritted his teeth. "Ms. Bennett, your daughter killed Owen. We're taking her to resolve this. Is that a problem?"
Vivienne stepped forward, exuding cold authority. "You say she killed him? Did you see it? Did Josep see it? Where's the evidence? Unless you have proof my daughter killed Owen, you won't take her. If you touch her, I will use all the Bennett family's resources to make you and those behind you pay. I mean it. Try me if you have the guts."
Mark was stunned by Vivienne's words.
Mark felt humiliated as he realized he had been intimidated. As he was about to step forward, Vivienne's gaze stopped him.
The Bennett family was not to be trifled with, and Vivienne's words were no empty threat.
Cecily wasn't someone who could be bullied so easily. Harming her meant declaring war on the Bennett family.
Mark didn't have the courage or authority for that.
He glared at Vivienne and the others, then waved his hand. "You'll pay for this."
With that, he left with his men.
The ward returned to calm, but Cecily's heart was far from it.
Had Owen really died so suddenly? Without any warning?
If Owen was truly dead, the Fitzgerald family would face significant turmoil.
