Chapter 483 Owen's Funeral

The person hiding in the shadows watching Cecily didn't react right away.

"What now? Cecily's been kidnapped. Should we follow?"

The leader thought for a moment. "No, let's head back and report to the boss."

"Got it."

"What did you say? Cecily's been kidnapped?" Josep frowned.

"Yeah, they used a low-profile van and moved fast. The Bennett family's bodyguards couldn't stop them. It seemed planned, not random," Mark told Josep.

"Who else would kidnap Cecily besides us?" Josep wondered.

"Maybe her own enemies."

Meanwhile, Cecily was in the car. Before she could ask any questions, Hayden and Declan, who were sitting next to her, clasped their hands together and apologized.

"Why did you kidnap me?"

Hayden quickly replied, "We have something important to tell you."

"Yeah, something very important," Declan added.

"You kidnapped me for something important? Whose idea was this?" Cecily asked seriously.

"That would be me," Declan raised his hand.

Hayden had been dragged into this by Declan. Those two were always together, for better or worse.

"You seem quite proud," Hayden said, giving Declan a heavy pat on the shoulder.

"Cecily, no one can find out about what we need to do. There are too many spies around you, so we had no other choice," Declan said earnestly.

Cecily nodded when she saw that Declan was serious. "Hmm, this sounds like something you'd come up with."

Hayden tried to hold back his smile but couldn't help laughing.

Declan covered his mouth and whispered, "Cecily, I'll tell you a secret."

Cecily leaned in. "What?"

"Owen's not dead. He's still alive and needs you now."

"What?"

Cecily's eyes widened.

She wondered if she was hearing things. Looking at the serious Declan, she said, "Sorry, I think I misheard. Can you say that again?"

Declan leaned in closer. "Owen's not dead. He's still alive."

This time, Cecily was sure she hadn't misheard. She looked up seriously. "Really?"

"Really," Declan confirmed.

"Where is Owen now? Did you come get me to treat him?"

"You're very smart."

Cecily pressed her lips together. It wasn't hard to guess.

They had made such a big scene, so they must have needed her for something important.

"How's Owen doing now?"

Declan, who was also a doctor, quickly answered, "He's in a deep coma. It's uncertain if he'll wake up."

Cecily pressed her lips together. "Who saved Owen? And who came up with the idea to fake his death to fool Josep?"

She looked at Hayden and Declan, sensing someone was orchestrating everything.

First, they had gotten Paul and Kevin to help her at the board meeting.

Then, they had Owen fake his death to deceive Josep.

"It was us," Declan said, pulling his lips. "We saw Owen the day he was admitted to the hospital. We couldn't reach Darian or any other Fitzgerald family members. We thought the Fitzgerald family might be in trouble, and we knew what kind of person Josep was. To keep Owen safe, we came up with this plan."

Cecily looked at Declan, then at Hayden, raising her eyebrows slightly. "Really?"

"Really."

"Yes, really."

Declan and Hayden looked sincere.

The car arrived at the private hospital. The driver checked the surroundings before letting them out.

Cecily's heart skipped a beat when she saw Owen.

Owen was really not dead.

"Cecily, you know Josep is trying to take your shares. All of Josep's plans will only fail if Owen wakes up. It's up to you, Cecily."

"I'll check on Owen first. I'll do my best," Cecily said, then walked into the ward.

At the Bennett family.

Vivienne knew Cecily's kidnapping was fake. To make it look real, Vivienne sent everyone out to search for her, making a big scene for Josep.

Soon, everyone knew Cecily had been kidnapped, but no one knew who did it.

Josep couldn't find out who had done it either, but he had someone relay the news to Darian to see his reaction.

Darian didn't care at all. A simple "What does it have to do with me?" left the person who leaked the news speechless.

Bryan learned about this from Freya and rushed to the Bennett family. When he saw Vivienne's anxious look, he said, "I've also sent people to look for Cecily. Don't worry, she'll be fine."

Vivienne gave him a cold look. "Don't pretend to care. My daughter has nothing to do with you."

Bryan knew Vivienne had never forgiven him and would never show him kindness. He was used to it. "Just assume I'm looking for something to do."

Vivienne didn't want to see him and turned to go inside.

Cecily came out of the ward, packed her things, and told Declan and Hayden, "I'll come every three days to treat Owen."

"Will Owen wake up?" Hayden asked.

"He will, but it'll take time," Cecily replied.

"Now that you've said that, everyone can relax." Hayden sighed in relief. "I'll take you back."

"No, I was kidnapped by you guys. To make it look real, someone has to rescue me," Cecily said.

She had already contacted Vivienne to send someone to pick her up. The act had to be convincing.

"Alright."

Cecily was about to leave but turned back to Hayden and Declan. "Has Darian asked about me?"

Declan and Hayden were momentarily speechless. Feeling guilty, Declan said, "Darian has amnesia, so..."

"I understand," Cecily nodded, not asking any further questions. She remembered Freya's words, and her eyes dimmed involuntarily.

The news that Cecily had been found spread the next day.

Josep couldn't figure out who had kidnapped Cecily!

Sawyer walked into Josep's study and reminded him, "Josep, Owen's funeral is tomorrow. Everything is ready."

Josep harbored resentment toward Sawyer because of the board meeting, but he couldn't do anything to Sawyer, which made him grit his teeth in anger.

"Sawyer, whose side are you on?"

Sawyer maintained an innocent look. "Josep, what are you suspecting? I don't understand."

"You don't understand?" Josep walked over, glaring coldly at Sawyer. "You're helping Cecily get the shares. What's in it for you?"

"I was just telling the truth that day," Sawyer said, unafraid of Josep.

"You were telling the truth?"

"If you want, I can recount everything that happened that day," Sawyer threatened openly.

Josep almost ground his molars to dust, but he still couldn't do anything to Sawyer. He patted Sawyer's shoulder heavily. "No need for that. We can discuss things."

"I hope we can discuss things too," Sawyer said, lowering his eyebrows. "If there's nothing else, I'll get back to work."

"Alright, go ahead."

Sawyer turned and left, while the malice in Josep's eyes could no longer be concealed.

As soon as Sawyer stepped out, he immediately reported all the Fitzgerald family news to Percy.

On the other end of the phone, Percy sounded pleased, "Sawyer, you've done well. Tomorrow's funeral will be a big show, and we'll need your help."

"What else are you planning?"

"You'll find out tomorrow."

Having Sawyer help Cecily keep her shares was just the first step. Percy's real goal was to have Cecily marry into the Lockwood family and use the Bennett family's influence to help the Lockwood family bring down the Fitzgerald family and become the top family in Silver Frost Capital. He had been planning this for a long time.

"Understood." Sawyer didn't ask any further questions.

On the day of Owen's funeral, it was drizzling.

Josep had planned a grand funeral for Owen, and almost all the aristocrats related to the Fitzgerald family in Silver Frost Capital were in attendence.

On the second floor, Darian, who was dressed in a sharp black suit, stood looking down at the scene. Josep was thanking all the guests with a sorrowful and dejected look on his face.

"Any news?"

"We've confirmed Mrs. Fitzgerald's location. We should have news soon," Larkin replied beside him.

Darian had one hand in his suit pocket and the other on the railing, his long fingers tapping rhythmically. "Make it quick."

"Darian," Freya called, lifting her black dress as she ran up. Josep had instructed her to stay close to Darian.

Darian frowned slightly when he heard Freya's voice, and Larkin stepped back discreetly.

"Darian, I've been looking for you. I know you're very sad about your grandpa's death, but you need to take care of yourself," Freya said, naturally linking her arm with Darian's in concern.

Darian didn't look at her and walked downstairs. Freya pouted but shamelessly followed.

She believed that over time, Darian would come to like her.

Cecily's early pregnancy symptoms had been getting worse recently—dizziness, fatigue, drowsiness, nausea, and vomiting, making her look pale and thin.

"I told you not to come if you were feeling unwell, but you're so stubborn," Vivienne said, patting Cecily's back with a mix of helplessness and heartache.

"I'm fine, Mom," Cecily said, taking a moment to steady herself. When she looked up, she saw Darian and Freya standing across from her.

Darian, and Freya, who had deliberately linked her arm through his, stood there. Freya looked at Cecily with a smug expression on her face.

Cecily's gaze fell on their linked arms, and her eyes darkened.

A gust of wind brought Freya's strong perfume scent to her.

The nausea Cecily had just suppressed surged back, and she couldn't help but clutch her chest and run to the restroom.

"Cecily," Vivienne quickly followed.
