Chapter 607: Slap Her
Aurelie stared at the dress shoved into her hands and tossed it aside. "What do you really want, Lillian?"
Dragging her here just to be a bridesmaid? No way!
Lillian's smile faded a bit as she glanced at the discarded dress. "I don't want anything. Why so scared, Miss Miller?"
"I won't do it. Find someone else." Aurelie turned to leave.
But Lillian blocked her path. "What if I offered you a hundred grand? I know you've been struggling with money. That is a pretty generous offer, don't you think?"
"Miss Miller? Lillian, who are you talking about? I read about an Aurelie who drove her dad to his death. Is that her?" One of Lillian's bridesmaids sneered, looking Aurelie up and down.
Lillian linked arms with Aurelie and introduced her to the others. "Yep, that's her. Not only is she the one in the news, but she's also Nathaniel's ex. Her family owes a ton of money. I felt bad for her, so I invited her here. You guys are my friends, so be nice to Miss Miller."
Everyone got the hint. They exchanged looks and smirked. "Of course, we'll definitely take care of her."
Playing the good girl, Lillian shoved the dress back into Aurelie's hands. "Miss Miller, go change into this. It's a big help for you, right? I'm just being kind."
Aurelie didn't dare take it.
She let the dress drop to the floor and stepped back. Lillian's smile turned icy. "What do you mean? I invited you nicely, and you refuse?"
"If you want to humiliate me, just do it. No need for games," Aurelie shot back. She knew Lillian too well. Since she brought her here, she wouldn't miss a chance.
Lillian crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow, smirking. "Oh, so you know. No need for games then."
She sat down slowly, picking up an eyebrow razor to play with. "Remember, Joshua still owes my family twenty million. Now that he's dead, the debt's on you. So, two choices: pay up or stay and serve me."
Lillian watched Aurelie through the mirror, smiling sweetly. "Pick one."
Lillian's offer to make Aurelie a bridesmaid was just a cover to keep her here and humiliate her.
"Yeah, you should either pay up or stay and serve Lillian," one of Lillian's friends echoed.
Aurelie clenched her fists. Lillian knew she couldn't repay it, which is why she made such a demand.
Lillian smirked. "You either pay today, or start doing as I asked. Don't think you can get away."
Lillian called it a choice, but really, Aurelie had no choice.
Unable to repay the money, she could only choose the second option.
Aurelie clenched her fists and looked down at the dress. It was the same style as the other bridesmaids' dresses but of noticeably poorer quality, clearly meant for her.
Aurelie pressed her lips together bitterly.
Lillian had gone to great lengths to humiliate her.
Aurelie had no choice. If she couldn't repay the money, Lillian wouldn't let her go. She had to comply. She bent down, picked up the dress, and went to the restroom to change.
Seeing her comply, Lillian's lips curled up in satisfaction.
Did she really think she could fight her? She was the daughter of the Lewis family, adored by everyone.
And what was Aurelie? Just some chick with no background, stuck with her deadbeat dad's massive gambling debts. She was as ordinary as they come. What right did she have to go up against Lillian?
What a joke!
Aurelie came out in the dress, and Lillian was grinning ear to ear.
The dress was way too big for Aurelie, hanging off her like a sack. Compared to the other bridesmaids' fancy outfits, Aurelie, no matter how good her figure was, looked like a mess.
Everyone burst out laughing. "Lillian, why's her dress so ugly? Even though they're all bridesmaid dresses, hers looks totally different from ours."
"Of course, it's different. Who are we, and who is she? Does she really think she's on our level? People wear clothes that match their status. I'm sure Miss Miller gets it, right?" Lillian propped her chin and winked at Aurelie.
Aurelie tuned out their chatter, not giving a damn.
"Go get my slippers. There's still a long time before the wedding reception starts, and I'm tired of these heels," Lillian said, adjusting her perfectly styled hair and smiling at Aurelie.
When she put on the dress, Aurelie had already braced herself for Lillian's humiliation. Now that it was happening, she was mentally prepared.
Taking a deep breath, Aurelie walked over, picked up the slippers, and placed them in front of Lillian.
One of the bridesmaids chimed in, "Didn't you hear Lillian say she's tired? Aren't you gonna help her change her shoes?"
Lillian smiled and looked at Aurelie, "She's already told you. Why haven't you started?"
Lillian lifted her foot and raised an eyebrow at Aurelie.
Aurelie stood still, and Lillian quickly lost patience. "Still holding onto your pride? Is repaying 20 million dollars not a big deal for you? If that's the case, I can have my brother talk to the casino folks and have them come after you every day. If $20 million dollars isn't a big deal, surely $200 million dollars is, right?"
Aurelie glared at Lillian.
Lillian's smile grew even brighter, "Don't look at me like that. My brother saved your dad at the casino. You should be grateful to our family. But do you know why your dad ended up owing so much money?"
Aurelie was momentarily stunned by her question.
She only knew that Joshua had racked up huge debts from gambling but didn't know what had happened at the casino to make him lose so much.
Lillian's question made Aurelie suddenly suspicious. "Did you set him up?"
Lillian covered her mouth and laughed, "You're as dumb as your dad. Just figuring it out now? My brother's tight with the casino folks. As soon as he gave the word, your dad was a marked man the moment he walked in."
"Why? My dad never did anything to you." Aurelie clenched her fists.
Lillian's smile faded, "Your dad didn't, but you did. Remember that slap you gave me at the hospital? I told you I'd make you pay for it."
From that day on, Lillian had dug into everything about Aurelie, including her family. When she found out her dad was a gambler, her opportunity came.
"Aurelie, do you know? Your dad was really stupid. He was dreaming of hitting it big through gambling right up until he lost. Pathetic and pitiful. But if it weren't for you, I wouldn't have set him up, and he wouldn't have died. And do you know about your dad and Barbara? They came to me for help that day, and I suggested he jump off a building. I didn't expect him to be so stupid as to actually fall and die. Isn't that funny?"
Aurelie's face showed no emotion. She raised her hand and slapped Lillian hard.
The slap landed on Lillian's smug face with a loud crack, catching everyone off guard. Lillian was knocked onto the table, clutching her face, stunned.
