Chapter 113 Knew They Couldn't Sit Still
Griffin and Rowan were both perched against the back seat window, craning their little heads to watch Cecily.
Rowan was a bit worried, "Can Mommy handle a man by herself?"
Griffin smiled, "Of course, it's a piece of cake. Mommy is really tough, just you watch."
A black man hiding by the side of a dark car and fiddling with his camera didn't notice Cecily approaching him.
By the time he looked up, the camera was suddenly snatched from his hands, "Hey..."
As he tried to grab it back, he noticed the tall, poised woman who had somehow appeared before him.
Cecily held the camera with one hand, her eyes cool, "What are you photographing?"
The man in black panicked a bit and quickly said, "Nothing, nothing, give me back my camera."
Cecily raised an eyebrow and started scrolling through the photos on the camera, "Why are you taking pictures of me?"
The man was caught red-handed and became defensive, "Who's secretly photographing you? I was just taking random shots. Give me back my camera."
Cecily didn't respond and casually twirled the camera in her hand.
The man's heart rattled in time with the motions of Cecily's hand on the camera, "Hey, be careful, that camera is expensive."
"Oh, it's expensive?" Cecily raised an eyebrow, "Here, take it."
As the man reached out, Cecily suddenly flung the camera with force.
"My camera!" The man was almost petrified with fear as he stretched out his hands to catch it, but the camera smoothly landed back in Cecily's grasp.
The man in black stared fixedly at Cecily, terrified she might smash his camera without a second thought.
Cecily held the camera in one hand and then demanded, "Talk. Who sent you?"
The man in black was taken aback, not expecting Cecily to confront him directly. He quickly denied any implication, "Who sent me? I'm just a photographer, taking shots of random things, that's all."
"Oh, I see," Cecily nodded in understanding, "Let's take a look at the surveillance footage then."
Cecily gestured toward the camera, which was aimed directly at their location.
"I've caught you taking photos of me more than once. I'm sure the surveillance cameras have caught you as well. Along with the photos on this camera, that's enough evidence of stalking to land you in jail for a few days."
The man followed Cecily's motion and looked up at the surveillance camera, scoffing coldly, "You're just scaring me. Stalking isn't even a crime."
"Is that so? You seem pretty knowledgeable. Stalking might not be a crime, but invasion of privacy and disseminating someone's personal information is a crime," she retorted.
Upon hearing this, the man felt a chilling fear. His eyes shifted to the camera in Cecily's hand, and he lunged to snatch it away with sudden violence.
Cecily's eyes narrowed, having anticipated his dishonest move. A light sneer slipped from her crimson lips as she sidestepped his attack, her hand quickly drawing something from her coat pocket.
In the next second, the man felt a cold, hard object pressed against his waist. Looking down, his pupils dilated at the sight of a sleek black handgun aimed at his midsection.
"You? You..." The man spun around to run, leaving the camera behind.
Watching him, Cecily found his actions somewhat amusing, "Run? Let's see if your legs are faster than my bullet."
The man trembled, but then he reconsidered, ‘How could she possibly have a gun?’
"Heh, you're bluffing," he challenged, "If you've got a gun, then shoot."
Cecily's lips curled into a chilling smirk, "All right, let's test it. It has been quite a while since I've seen a head 'blossom.'"
With those words, Cecily raised the gun to aim at the man's forehead, her finger twitching slightly on the trigger.
The man's face turned ashen, and the menacing, bloodthirsty look in her eyes was not lost on him. He wasn't about to gamble with his life on whether the gun in her hand was real or not. Immediately, he raised his hands, "Wait! Don't be hasty. Whatever you want to know, I'll tell you."
"Who sent you?"
The man hesitated, causing Cecily to slightly increase the pressure in her grip. He hurriedly confessed, "It was... it was a woman. She paid me to follow you and take photos of you and the people around you to send to her."
"What else?"
Cecily knew it all too well.
It was either Elysia or Ophelia – no one else would bother with such antics.
"Anything else? There's... there's nothing more, just that."
"Give me the transaction record for the money she sent you."
"Ah? Yes, yes, yes." The man immediately pulled out his phone, opened the payment app, and extended it toward Cecily, "There you go."
Cecily glanced at the screen. It was an anonymous account, virtually untraceable.
She was impressed with the caution.
Cecily shifted her gaze away, "The contents of this camera now belong to me. Any objections?"
"No, no, no, take whatever you want."
She removed the memory card from the camera and tossed the camera back to him.
The man hurriedly clutched his beloved camera and then glanced at Cecily’s nonchalant handling of the handgun. His curiosity piqued, he asked, "Where did you get that gun?"
'Nowadays, who casually carries a gun around?'
Cecily looked at the handgun in her hand and arched an eyebrow, "This thing? Got it from a street vendor for ten bucks. Looks pretty real, doesn't it?"
With that, Cecily tossed the toy handgun into the man’s arms, "Here, it's yours now."
His eyes widened in shock.
Damn it, he’d been fooled by a plastic gun!
Cecily watched his frustrated expression and let out a cold laugh. She had grabbed the toy gun on a whim after getting out of the car, imitating the brash and fierce demeanor she'd seen in Blaise, and it had worked. The man had been totally fooled.
It seemed her acting skills weren't too shabby.
Cecily gave him a contemptuous look and dropped a line, “Tell her, if she sends anyone to tail me again, I won't be so kind,” then she left.
Feeling humiliated by the deceit, the man furiously smashed the plastic gun on the ground and stormed toward Cecily with clenched fists.
Cecily saw his reflection on the ground, and a smirk crossed her lips. As his fist came down to strike her, Cecily swiftly turned around and kicked hard into the man’s abdomen.
Caught off guard, he fell to the ground with a thud. Cecily glared down at him, stepping closer with each icy step, and then pressed her foot onto his back, "Still want to fight me?"
The man quickly realized he was no match for her and started begging for mercy, "I was wrong, I was wrong, ma’am. I won’t dare do it again, please let me go."
Cecily smiled coldly and lifted her leg, "Scram."
"Yes, I'm leaving right away." The man got up, clutching his abdomen, and scrambled away as fast as he could.
Cecily watched him flee in a panic and shook her head in disbelief.
After all, she had been trained by Blaise for years. Her self-defense skills were more than adequate for situations like these.
As Cecily returned, the two youngsters immediately hopped down from the car. Rowan's eyes sparkled with admiration as he looked at Cecily. He never imagined his mom could be so impressive.
Griffin, on the other hand, was the picture of calm. To him, those kinds of people were just everyday nuisances for his mom.
Still, Griffin didn't hold back his praise, "Mom, you're so awesome."
Rowan quickly nodded in agreement, "Mom's the best."
Cecily felt a touch embarrassed by the sudden compliments from her little ones.
Back at home, Cecily cooked dinner for the two kids herself. Having them both by her side was a rarity, and she was in high spirits.
After they finished dinner, Rowan conscientiously went to work on his homework. Inspired by his brother, Griffin followed suit, putting aside even his favorite games to join him.
Griffin mentioned that Darian was out of town, and Cecily had hoped that Griffin might spend the night with her. However, at ten o'clock on the dot, the doorbell rang.
