Chapter 255 Her Mother is Mysterious
Darian paused for a moment. "Besides this, are there any other clues?"
"Yes, you can probably see from the video five years ago that she looks exactly like me. It's a perfect imitation."
It wasn't just the face. Even the movements, expressions, habits, and way of speaking were very similar.
Cecily had disguised herself as that person in the villa and wasn't recognized by the bodyguards and staff inside. She noticed this.
"Even my pregnant belly at eight months was replicated exactly, which means that this person was probably around us, observing our every move."
Cecily now shuddered at the thought of having someone constantly watching, monitoring, and imitating her, someone who wanted to harm her. The unknown danger made her feel cold inside.
Cecily took a deep breath and didn't stop her actions. "I just genuinely can't think of who I've offended."
This was causing her a lot of headaches.
And there was the image of the cloaked Cecily in her mind once again, still unable to find a face and unable to remember when or where she had seen her before.
Cecily mentioned the perfect imitation, and Darian also noticed it while watching the video. If there was no reason to believe otherwise, no one would think that the person in the video wasn't the real Cecily.
"Could it be an enemy of the Watson's Family?"
"An enemy of the Watson's Family?" Cecily repeated Darian's words, pondering. "No, according to the personalities of the Watson Family members, they only like to control everything and compete with me for the inheritance left by my mother. They wouldn't dare to make enemies outside."
Cecily paused for a moment, then her eyes suddenly narrowed. "The inheritance my mother left behind, the fortune!"
It seemed like she suddenly remembered something.
Darian turned to look at her. "What did you remember?"
"The person that Watson's Family is most concerned about is the wealth left behind by my mother. Is that person envious of my immense wealth?" Cecily murmured, her thoughts swirling in her mind.
Darian's eyes darkened. "Your mother left you a considerable amount of wealth?"
Cecily shook her head. "Even if it's considerable, it's nowhere near immense wealth."
Although she didn't know the specific amount, at the very least, it was not enough to be considered immense wealth.
And besides, the wealth her mother left for her was all in Raphael's hands. That person was truly jealous of this money, but instead of competing and fighting with Raphael for it, they spent so many years resorting to plastic surgery and imitation to compete with her.
This was unreasonable, as what they wanted did not correspond to their efforts.
"I've never heard you talk about your mother," Darian said as he took out two tissues and carefully wiped the remnants of ointment from her palms.
Cecily forced a bitter smile. "To be honest, I don't know much about her. She has always been mysterious, the kind of person you live with, but you have no idea what she does all day. I remember asking when I was a child, but my mother wouldn't tell me. She said it was to protect me."
Cecily always felt that she didn't truly understand her own mother.
In Watson's Family, with her father, mother, grandmother, and herself, it seemed harmonious, like a family. But when scrutinizing it more closely, she realized she couldn't feel any love. It didn't feel like a real family.
After her mother left, Raphael hurriedly brought the mother and daughter into Watson's Family. They were now a family, but she had never felt like she truly belonged.
Thinking about all of this, Cecily's eyes darkened. "So, I also don't know what she does all day, why she disappeared, or if she's still alive."
Darian sensed the emotional turmoil in Cecily's eyes, and his own eyes grew even darker and filled with more compassion.
Cecily faced more troubles than her peers since she was young, surrounded by the unknown and schemes. Although Darian had also experienced similar things when his father died, others in the Fitzgerald Family were eager to seize the position of being the head of the family.
However, Mr. Fitzgerald managed to suppress them all by himself and drove those with ulterior motives out of the Fitzgerald Family to protect him, who was still young at the time.
He reached his current position through his efforts, with Mr. Fitzgerald's guidance and support.
Both he and Cecily were not fortunate, but Darian cared less about himself and more about Cecily, sympathizing with everything she had been through.
He pulled her into his embrace, sitting her on his lap. "Are you still looking for your mother?"
"Looking, but with no leads, not knowing where to start looking from." It is truly difficult to find someone who disappeared without a trace, not knowing if they are still in this world.
"When I go back, I'll help you look. You mentioned that your mother was mysterious and left you a considerable fortune, and it seems that the person who wants it has some connection to your mother."
Cecily's eyes flickered, Darian was right. The money she earned herself was nowhere near enough to provoke envy, but her mother was capable, so what that person wanted was likely something her mother left behind. She just hadn't discovered it yet.
"It's late, you should rest." Darian raised his hand and brushed aside the stray strands of hair on her forehead.
Cecily lowered her gaze and looked at their sitting posture, then suddenly stood up and created some distance between them.
Darian looked at her expression, calmly smiling.
Cecily coughed lightly, "You're not planning to sleep with me tonight, are you?"
"Otherwise, I'll sleep outside and show you a human-shaped ice block tomorrow morning?"
Cecily tugged at her coat, "You can sleep with Larkin."
Darian's face changed slightly, "Cecily, I'm not gay."
There was nothing she could do. Cecily could only let Darian stay in the room. There was only one bed in the room, one blanket, and if he wanted to sleep, he had to sleep with her.
Cecily bit her lip, lying on the bed without even taking off her coat, tightly wrapped up, clearly uncomfortable. She pulled the blanket over herself, her slender body occupying only a small part of the bed, leaving the rest for Darian.
After waiting for the medicinal ointment to take effect, Darian went to the bathroom to take a shower. When he came out, he saw Cecily sleeping close to the edge of the bed.
Darian raised his eyebrow and walked over, lifting the blanket and lying down, his powerful arm easily pulling Cecily, who was about to fall off, toward the middle.
Cecily, pretending to sleep with her eyes closed, couldn't help but open her eyes and turned her head to glare at Darian.
"If you want to sleep on the floor at night, just say so." Darian held onto her waist, not letting go nor making any excessive movements.
Cecily bit her lip and took a deep breath. "You should let go of me first."
Darian withdrew his hand, and Cecily moved her body to the side.
Darian chuckled, "Isn't it uncomfortable to sleep in a coat?"
Cecily thought about the pajamas she wore underneath. She would rather be uncomfortable.
"I find it quite comfortable." Cecily's voice was muffled as she pulled up the blanket and went to sleep.
Darian looked at Cecily sleeping with her back to him and silently smiled. He cautiously approached her, not touching her, and quietly said, "Goodnight."
