Chapter 346 The Truth of Patrick's Death
Eliza's face was streaked with tears.
"Grandpa, it wouldn't have made any difference. No matter what, Father died because he went to see her. What difference does it make whether I mentioned that detail or not?"
Eliza looked up at him.
Owen knew she was right. Without Vivienne, there wouldn't have been the car accident. But at this moment, he was completely disappointed in Eliza.
She claimed she sought revenge, but she didn't act on it. Instead, she focused solely on the position of the Bennett family heiress.
Her true intentions were now more than obvious.
Moreover, he had just learned that his son could have survived back then.
Taking a deep breath, he nodded wearily, "Alright, I understand."
"Grandpa."
"Don't call me that. I once appreciated your intent to avenge my son, and I helped you in every way. Now, knowing my son sacrificed his life to save you, the Fitzgerald family owes you nothing."
Before Owen could finish, Eliza clung to his pant leg in fear, " Grandpa, please don't! I became like this all for Father. You can't abandon me."
Owen sneered, "Don't make it sound so noble. All you want is the Bennett family's wealth. Your greed has led to your downfall. The Fitzgerald family raised you, and Patrick saved your life. That's more than enough. From now on, you have nothing to do with the Fitzgerald family."
"No, Grandpa!"
If even Owen abandoned her now, she was truly finished. Cecily and Darian would never let her go.
"Grandpa."
"Get out." Owen flung her hand away, and Eliza fell to the ground in a mess, her face covered in tears.
Why?
Why had all her scheming and sacrifices led to this?
It was all Cecily's fault, all Vivienne's fault. They had schemed against her!
It was all their fault.
At this moment, Vivienne ignored Eliza. She held Cecily's hand and looked at the audience, her cool voice speaking:
"Everyone, I know there's been a lot of speculation about who my real daughter is. Now, I officially announce that the one beside me is my true daughter, Cecily."
Cecily pressed her lips together, holding Vivienne's hand tightly.
Their hands were clasped firmly together.
"Also, regarding the car accident thirteen years ago that Eliza mentioned, I admit that if Mr. Fitzgerald hadn't been coming to the airport, the accident might not have happened. Over the years, I have owed the Fitzgerald family an apology. I know an apology can't change anything, but it's all I can offer now."
Vivienne looked at Owen, who was glaring at her with hatred, and bowed deeply, "Mr. Owen Fitzgerald, I sincerely apologize for what happened back then. I'm truly sorry for Mr. Patrick Fitzgerald's death."
Owen sneered, "Will your apology bring my son back? Vivienne, you will always owe the Fitzgerald family a life!"
"Darian, let's go." Owen's authoritative voice commanded.
Darian's deep eyes were dark, as if a layer of fog had settled over them, making it impossible to read his emotions.
"I'll have someone take you back, Larkin."
Larkin, who had been waiting in the corner for Darian's orders, stepped forward to prove his worth. He immediately approached, "Owen, I'll take you back first."
"Get away from me." Owen shook off Larkin's hand, glaring at Darian. "After hearing all this, you still plan to stay with this..."
Owen paused, noticing the many eyes on them. He didn't want to clash with Darian in such a public setting.
Too many people talking would only bring disgrace to the Fitzgerald family.
Owen said, "are you coming?"
Darian insisted, "I have things to do."
Owen raised his hand, pointed at Darian, and finally, in his anger, could only utter a single "Fine" before turning and leaving in large strides.
"Take him back," Darian said, raising an eyebrow at Larkin.
Larkin immediately chased after Owen, seeing that his steps were unsteady with anger, and quickly reached out to support him.
Owen shook him off.
Larkin tried to support Owen again, but Owen glared at him.
Larkin lowered his head submissively.
Darian withdrew his gaze and looked at Cecily, who was also looking in his direction.
Darian stepped forward and took her slightly cold hand.
Eliza, sitting on the ground, suddenly let out a cold laugh.
"Cecily, do you know that your eyes will be blind forever?"
Eliza laughed maniacally.
She had nothing left now and didn't care about anything. As long as she saw them in pain, she was happy.
Cecily's palm tightened.
Darian frowned and said softly, "Don't listen to her."
Eliza continued to laugh hysterically, "You don't know yet, do you? You're blind forever."
"Guards, take her away," Darian's voice was chilling, and two people immediately came forward to drag Eliza away.
Eliza kept shouting, "In the future, you'll be a blind person, a cripple. I lost, but you didn't win either!"
The guards quickly covered Eliza's mouth and dragged her out.
Cecily's face paled slightly.
Darian gripped her shoulders, "Don't listen to her. The doctor said you'll recover."
Cecily's heart sank, but she quickly regained her composure and nodded calmly at Darian, "Okay."
"Cecily, you're still weak. Don't stand for too long. Go back and rest. I'll handle things here," Vivienne gently patted Cecily's arm.
Cecily, feeling chaotic inside, nodded lightly. She even forgot to respond to Vivienne and didn't take Darian's hand, walking forward alone.
"Cecily," Vivienne reached out her hand.
Seeing Cecily's state, Darian frowned with concern. He quickly stepped forward and, just as she was about to miss a step, grabbed her hand, placed it on his shoulder, and bent down to pick her up.
"Walking off on your own? Planning to leave me behind?"
Cecily felt a flutter at Darian's deep, soothing voice. "Sorry, I got distracted."
Darian carried Cecily out of the banquet hall, walked straight into the elevator, and then set her down, holding her in his arms, "How about I punish you a little?"
Cecily looked up, perfectly positioned for a kiss.
Darian didn't hesitate to lower his head, his warm lips meeting her soft ones.
Seeing no resistance, Darian tightened his grip, deepening the kiss.
"Can't you focus even when we kiss?"
Cecily gently moved her lips.
She had so many questions in her heart at that moment.
'Was Eliza telling the truth? Was she really blind? '
Did Darian really not resent her for what happened between their parents?
All these questions lingered in Cecily's mind.
Cecily wasn't the type to brush things off easily. Beneath her tough exterior was a cautious and sensitive heart. Now that she couldn't see, her anxiety doubled.
What if she could never see again?
How would she live if she never regained her sight?
Would Rowan and Griffin be heartbroken to see her like this?
And what about her relationship with Darian? Her blindness and her mother's involvement in his father's death. How would that affect them?
These were all questions Cecily had to consider.
"Your eyes will get better. I promise you."
"My father's death involved your mother, but that doesn't concern you, nor will it affect us. I've told you, I won't let go of your hand again. I keep my word."
It was as if Darian could read her mind, answering her inner questions.
Hearing Darian's steady and reassuring voice, the gloom in Cecily's heart slightly dissipated.
When they reached the underground parking lot, the bodyguards immediately opened the car door. Darian placed Cecily inside.
After closing the door, a bodyguard reported, "Boss, we've detained Eliza. Should we take her back to Silver Frost Capital for handling?"
Darian's eyes turned cold instantly, "Yes, keep a close watch on her. Don't let her die."
Eliza would pay the price for what happened to Cecily.
