Chapter 462 Better Off Dead, Less Worry
"Cecily." Darian immediately supported the startled Cecily.
Cecily saw Darian's face in the darkness.
"Darian?" she asked, patting her chest. "You scared me!"
"What's up?" Darian asked.
"Just messing with the bad guys," Griffin chimed in, peeking out.
Cecily grinned. That summed it up.
When Darian had gotten back, he had seen the Fitzgerald house in chaos. Clearly, the three of them were behind it.
"Running off after causing trouble?" Darian raised an eyebrow.
"Who, us?" Cecily denied, glancing at Rowan and Griffin.
"If you didn't so it, why are you so jumpy?" Darian noticed her trembling hand.
Cecily pulled her hand back. "Fine, we did do it. Go ahead, call someone to arrest me and your sons." She pouted.
Darian sighed when he saw that Cecily was still upset.
Suddenly, he spotted someone approaching. He pulled Cecily close.
"What are you doing?"
"Someone's coming."
Cecily's heart raced. She pulled Rowan and Griffin closer.
Darian held her tight. They pressed against the wall, holding their breath.
"Are they gone?" Cecily whispered.
Darian smiled at her serious expression. "Not yet."
Cecily huddled closer, and Darian held her tighter.
After a minute, Cecily looked up. "Are they still there?"
Darian pretended to check. "He's just standing there, watching us."
Cecily peeked out, but sawnothing.
"Darian!" she pushed him away. "You're so childish."
Darian laughed and took her hand. "Let's go."
"Where to?"
"Out of here. Grandpa hates troublemakers."
He grabbed their tools. Cecily pulled Rowan and Griffin, following Darian out.
In the car, Cecily eyed Darian. "How'd you know we were causing trouble?"
"Why else would you be at Fitzgerald Manor at night, in the backyard, squatting by their window?"
"Good point."
Darin saw that Cecily was still upset, so he asked, "Are you still mad?"
"Wouldn't you be?" she shot back.
Darian regretted letting Hayden mess around with her. "You have every right to be mad. I'm sorry."
Cecily glanced at him, still angry, then noticed Rowan and Griffin yawning in the back. "Just drive. My sons need sleep."
Darian looked back at them. "Okay." He started the car.
Under Darian's protection, they quietly left, while the Fitzgerald house was in chaos.
Olivia woke everyone up, screaming, "There's a ghost! It's Jennifer! She came back to haunt me. She was staring at me, right there! Protect me!"
When Owen arrived, he saw Olivia huddled in the middle of a circle of servants, looking terrified.
"Ridiculous," Owen muttered, his face dark with anger.
Sandra, who was pushed over by the servants, frowned at the scene.
"Dad," Josep said, rushing to Owen's side.
"What are you doing in the middle of the night? People need to sleep! Take her back now!"
Josep sighed. He wanted to take Olivia back, but she acted like a madwoman whenever he tried. She scratched him and ran off, claiming Jennifer was staring at her. At over fifty, he couldn't handle her antics and had strained his back.
"Dad, Olivia didn't just start acting like this. I think someone's scaring her on purpose."
Sandra sneered, "If she didn't do anything wrong, she wouldn't be this scared."
Josep had no response.
Owen gritted his teeth. "Look at this mess. Serves you right!"
If they hadn't wronged Jennifer, they wouldn't be so afraid of her ghost.
"Take her back now. If this gets out, you'll be in big trouble."
"Yes, Dad. I'll handle it. You go rest," Josep agreed quickly.
Owen left with his cane, not wanting to stay any longer.
Sandra watched coldly, thinking they deserved it for harming Darian.
After everyone left, Josep had someone knock Olivia out and carry her back. He then looked up at their window, feeling uneasy about the night's events but finding no evidence to support his suspicions.
Back home, Rowan and Griffin were asleep. Darian carried them to their rooms and then he and Cecily left quietly.
Cecily exhaled. "Alright, you go back. I'm going to sleep."
"Can I stay?" Darian hugged her from behind.
Cecily shivered at the warmth. "No."
"I want to stay."
"No."
"I don't care." Darian picked her up.
Cecily almost screamed, but Darian whispered, "Your mom's asleep. Don't wake her."
He carried her back to the room.
"Darian."
"It's late. Can you really send me away?"
"I..."
"I know you can't."
Cecily pushed him away, but Darian gasped.
"What's wrong? Did I hurt you?" Cecily asked, worried.
Darian just smiled at her.
Suddenly, he tightened his grip, pulling her onto him.
Realizing she had been tricked, Cecily slapped him and tried to get up, but Darian held her tighter.
"You tricked me again. I don't want to talk to you."
"Are you that worried about me?" Darian's eyes twinkled with amusement.
"I'm not worried about you. I hope you hurt more so I can worry less."
