Chapter375 It Was Eliza
Evander furrowed his brow deeply. He had heard that Darian had lost his memory, and it seemed to be true.
He had forgotten Cecily, forgotten her completely.
Taking a few steps forward, Evander looked at Cecily with concern. "Are you alright?"
Cecily lowered her eyes, hiding the traces of vulnerability and disappointment that had surfaced. "I'm fine."
"Mommy, what's wrong with Daddy?" Rowan's big eyes were filled with unease.
"Mommy, why doesn't Daddy recognize us?" Griffin tugged at Cecily's clothes, looking very upset.
Cecily bent down to look at her two children, her heart filled with mixed emotions. "I don't know what's going on right now, but it's okay. Don't worry too much."
"Cecily?" Declan stepped forward.
Cecily's gaze fell upon them. "Can you tell me what happened?"
Hayden sighed. "It's a long story."
"Then make it short." Cecily was a little anxious.
Hayden said, "He lost his memory and forgot the past few years."
"Lost his memory?" Even though everything that had just happened had prepared Cecily mentally, she was still shocked to hear that Darian had lost his memory.
How could he suddenly lose his memory out of the blue?
"What happened this past year?" asked Cecily.
Declan said, "We actually don't know why he ended up like this. After you left, Larkin said that when Darian woke up, he wanted to leave. Owen insisted on keeping him, and they ended up fighting. Darian fainted after the fight, and when he woke up, he had forgotten many things."
"Was he injured in the fight?" Cecily was very eager to know the truth of the matter.
"He shouldn't have been. We all know how skilled Darian is. An ordinary person couldn't beat him. Even if the bodyguards could, they wouldn't dare to go all out, let alone hit him hard enough to cause amnesia."
"So, he lost his memory without any warning." Cecily furrowed her brow even more.
"Yes."
Hayden sighed and said, "Cecily, don't blame Darian. Owen specifically instructed everyone around Darian not to mention your name. We were afraid that if Darian suddenly remembered you and you weren't there, he would be even more upset, so we didn't dare to bring it up."
"No wonder," Cecily murmured to herself.
'No wonder Darian hasn't reached out to me or the kids even once this past year. No wonder Owen just let me take the kids away. He was trying to use Darian's memory loss as a chance to completely phase me out of Darian's life, and then find him a suitable woman to marry. Once everything was set in stone, he would tell Darian about his two children. That way, Owen could snatch the kids back.' Cecily gave a bitter laugh. "Owen really calculated everything perfectly. And Darian's memory loss came so suddenly and bizarrely. How could he just lose his memory out of the blue?'
"Impossible," she murmured.
Hayden was puzzled. "What?"
"He is still so young, without any illness, injury, or significant trauma. It's impossible for him to suddenly lose his memory without any warning," Cecily said, lifting her gaze. "There must be a reason behind it."
Declan nodded. "I also examined Darian. His body is perfectly fine, yet he has forgotten several years of his life."
Cecily furrowed her brow. Darian's condition was similar to Gary's back then, although Gary's was more severe. And Gary's amnesia was caused by Eliza's poisoning.
"Eliza." Cecily suddenly remembered. "It was her."
A look of realization flashed in her clear eyes. Eliza must have been involved again.
"Cecily, what are you talking about?"
Cecily asked, "Have you seen Eliza since then?"
Cecily suspected Eliza, but considering Eliza was blind and imprisoned, how could she have the means to harm Darian?
This didn't make sense.
But aside from Eliza, there was likely no one else who would use such methods.
"We haven't seen her." Hayden thought for a moment and then asked, "Are you suggesting that Darian's amnesia is related to her?"
Cecily nodded. It was likely connected to Eliza.
Aurelie arrived late, stomping over to Cecily in her high heels, clearly upset. "Cecily, I just saw Darian with another woman..."
Seeing Cecily's expression, Aurelie's voice softened. "Did you see it too?"
Cecily furrowed her brow and nodded at Aurelie. "He said he has no wife and children." She paused and then gave a bitter smile.
"Is he crazy?" asked Aurelie.
"He has lost his memory. I don't blame him," Cecily said, raising her eyebrows slightly, though the calm on her face couldn't hide the unease in her eyes.
"Lost his memory?" Aurelie glanced at the others nearby.
Cecily had not been in Silver Frost Capital for the past year, and Aurelie hadn't had much interaction with Darian, so she was just learning about this.
As they were talking, Bella was helped over by Landon, with Ophelia, who looked at Cecily with resentment, following closely.
After a year, Cecily was still as beautiful as ever, perhaps even more so.
In contrast, Ophelia's eyes were sunken, and she looked much more haggard. It was clear that although Landon had married Ophelia for the sake of benefits, he didn't treat her well. Her previous madness made her seem even more like a resentful woman.
Cecily didn't look at her again. She hadn't forgotten that she was here to celebrate Bella's birthday today.
"Mrs. Bella, happy birthday," Cecily said, putting her own matters aside for the moment and smiling at Bella.
