Chapter 600: Getting Married in Three Days
Barbara looked like she wanted to fight back, but her chicken-hearted nature kept her lips zipped in front of the cops.
Nathaniel strolled out of the interrogation room soon after. The whole thing was pretty clear-cut, so they didn't grill him much.
Aurelie's heart sank when she saw Nathaniel. John had really laid into him, and Nathaniel took the hit for her. He still needed to get checked out at the hospital.
Just as she was about to go talk to him, she heard footsteps behind her. She turned and saw Terry storming in, looking all serious.
Terry brushed past Aurelie, his face all scrunched up as he glared at Nathaniel and headed straight for the cops.
Aurelie could feel the bad vibes coming off Terry. She didn't catch what he said to the police, but she heard the officer say, "You can go now."
Terry nodded, thanked the officer, then shot Nathaniel a look like he was the biggest screw-up ever. He saw Nathaniel's head injury but didn't even ask about it, just coldly said, "Let's go."
Aurelie, also caught up in this mess, was free to go after giving her statement.
Outside the police station, Nathaniel stopped and said to Terry, "Let me take her home first."
Terry paused but didn't turn around. His whole posture screamed anger.
After a beat, he slowly turned, his icy eyes locking onto Nathaniel, "You've got some nerve! Seriously, who do you think you are to mess with them? Do you even know who you hit? You've already done time once."
Terry wasn't mad about Nathaniel getting hurt; he was pissed Nathaniel had hit someone important, stirring up trouble for himself and the Kensington family.
Nathaniel found it laughable, "If you're scared of trouble, just say you don't have a son like me. I've done time, and we both know why."
"If you weren't my son, do you think I'd give a damn?" Terry snapped.
"You don't have to care, just like eleven years ago. What's one less son to you? You've got a whole squad of them anyway." Nathaniel sneered, lighting a cigarette with a whatever look.
Terry's eyes narrowed.
They stared each other down, the tension thick.
Aurelie came out and saw Nathaniel and Terry still outside, looking like they were about to throw down.
She didn't know what they were saying, but their faces made her nervous.
Terry noticed Aurelie and turned back to Nathaniel, his voice hard, "I've set your wedding with Lillian for three days from now. I don't care how many girls you have around, but you better go through with this marriage to the Lewis family."
Nathaniel's sneer deepened. If he wasn't still useful, Terry wouldn't even be here.
He didn't argue, just said coldly, "Let me take her home first."
Terry waved his hand, and his bodyguards closed in on Nathaniel.
Terry said icily, "You've caused enough trouble because of her. Until your wedding with Lillian is done, you stay away from her."
Nathaniel didn't flinch or say anything back to Terry, just repeated himself.
Aurelie hurried over, feeling all kinds of anxious from the tension.
"Nathaniel, are you really gonna go against me because of Aurelie?" Terry snapped.
"I've already done it. What's one more time?" Nathaniel shot back with a smirk.
"Nathaniel, you don't have to worry about me. Don't piss off your dad because of me." Before Aurelie could finish, Nathaniel grabbed her hand and started walking away.
The bodyguards looked at Terry, unsure if they should step in. Terry just stared coldly at Nathaniel.
As the bodyguards moved to stop him, Terry raised his hand, "Follow them and bring him back later." Then he got into his car and left.
Aurelie looked at Nathaniel nervously, "I can go back by myself. You don't need to upset your dad because of me."
"Shut up and get in the car." Nathaniel walked to the curb, flagged down a taxi, opened the door, and motioned for Aurelie to get in.
Aurelie glanced back at Terry's men watching them and reluctantly got in the car.
Once inside, Aurelie gave her home address, but Nathaniel cut her off and gave the address of a duplex apartment.
Aurelie turned to look at Nathaniel, then down at their clasped hands, totally confused.
She couldn't figure him out.
He could stand by coldly when she was bullied by Barbara and others.
Yet this time, when she was in danger, he stepped in without hesitation. She saw the worry in his eyes, and it wasn't fake; he was genuinely concerned for her.
The same guy who could watch indifferently was also the one who saved her without a second thought.
Aurelie couldn't make sense of his feelings for her.
After the night's chaos, Aurelie was wiped out, both physically and mentally. She wanted to ask Nathaniel something but ended up saying nothing.
She lowered her head, her gaze falling on their clasped hands. She quietly pulled her hand out of his grip.
Nathaniel didn't say anything, just let her do it.
The car stopped in front of the apartment building. Nathaniel paid the fare and pulled Aurelie out of the car.
"Aren't you gonna ask why I didn't leave Silver Frost Capital?" Aurelie suddenly asked.
"No need to ask, I know." It was obvious Terry had detained her; there was no other reason.
"Your dad asked me to spy on you." Aurelie looked at Nathaniel calmly.
"Did you agree?" Nathaniel asked.
"No."
Nathaniel's eyes were intense. "Why not? You should have. At least you wouldn't piss him off and could even get some cash from him."
Aurelie didn't know all the details between them, but she couldn't bring herself to spy on Nathaniel and report everything to Terry.
Aurelie forced a smile and joked, "If you want, I can agree to it now."
Nathaniel laughed, "If you agree now, he wouldn't believe you."
Aurelie laughed too, "Then there's nothing I can do."
After a moment of thought, Nathaniel suddenly said, "He just told me I'm getting married to Lillian in three days."
