Chapter 670 Learning About Vivienne's Terminal Illness

But Darian saw right through him.

After what felt like forever, Wade finally spoke up, "Figure out what? Vivienne just wants to get away for a bit, not stay in Detroit. You guys are blowing this out of proportion."

Darian shot back, "Get away? For a month or two? If she comes back in that time, fine, I won't say a word. Can you promise that? If you can, I'll go tell Cecily her mom's just taking a break and will be back soon."

Wade's face darkened. He couldn't promise that.

Darian's eyes narrowed.

"I can't promise you anything, and I can't say anything more. I've got other stuff to handle, so I'm out." Wade couldn't stick around; he had no answers for Darian.

Just as Wade reached the door, Larkin blocked his way.

Larkin stepped up, hands out, "Sorry, you can't leave yet."

Wade's fists clenched, "You have no right to stop me. Move."

Larkin didn't budge.

Darian stepped in, "I need answers today. Until I get them, you're not going anywhere. So spill it."

Wade stood there, jaw tight. The door slammed shut behind him.

Darian wasn't backing down.

No matter how stubborn Wade was, Darian needed answers.

Darian asked, "Is Vivienne sick? Terminally ill?"

Wade's tall frame shuddered. Pain flickered in his eyes.

The room went dead silent.

Darian's fists tightened.

Wade's silence said it all. Darian's worst fear was confirmed.

Wade finally turned around, eyes full of pain, "Yes."

Hearing it from Wade, Darian's heart sank, his brow furrowing.

Wade continued, "So when you asked if she could come back in a month or two, the answer is no. She left because she didn't want Cecily to see her suffering."

Darian was quiet for a long time before asking, "When did this happen?"

"Right around when Cecily got shot and lost the baby. By the time they found it, it was late-stage, and she refused treatment." Wade's voice was weak. He downed his coffee in one gulp, trying to keep it together, but his emotions only grew stronger.

Darian's eyes flashed with something unreadable. So it was during Cecily's coma when the doctor suggested a full-body check-up for Vivienne.

And she was on the late-stage.

No wonder Vivienne rushed back to Detroit; her body was failing.

Darian opened his mouth but didn't know what to say.

He had no idea how long someone with a terminal illness could last; his mind was a mess.

How would Cecily handle this news?

Wade said, "Vivienne left to keep Cecily from knowing. She didn't want to break her heart."

Darian replied, "How could something like this be kept a secret?"

This wasn't a cold that would go away. A terminal illness was deadly.

Should they wait until Vivienne died to tell Cecily? That would be even worse.

Darian suddenly stood up.

"Are you going to tell Cecily?" Wade shouted.

Darian paused, his mind racing.

He should tell Cecily. But he didn't want to see her in pain.

Wade said, "Now that you know, think carefully about whether to tell Cecily."

Darian didn't want to hear it. He'd make his own decision. He opened the door, ready to leave, but stopped when he saw who was standing there.

Darian's brow furrowed.
