Chapter 228 Late Night Search for Mom with the Kids
"I don't know. Elder Kenneth, who saved me, said that the poison didn't come from a bullet or a sword. It might have been during the banquet since it wasn't the poison from the chase. However, I didn't eat anything during those hours except for a sip of wine. I haven't found the person who poisoned me or any clues." Cecily was still worried about this. "This means that the person is still lurking in the dark, undiscovered. But she couldn't figure out who she had offended to make someone so vicious as to poison her directly."
Darian frowned. "If that person wanted to poison you, they would have had the opportunity in the banquet hall and during the chase. Ophelia, Owen, and Landon..."
"It's not Ophelia, and it wouldn't be Owen," Cecily said first. "Landon..." Darian frowned. "Who is he?"
"He's the one who fired that shot." Cecily was puzzled for a moment. "Landon, from the Walker family? Why? I have no grudge with him."
Darian's expression became serious. "The night Ophelia hurt you with the medicine, which accidentally hurt herself, the person who got her pregnant was Landon, so the child is his."
Cecily instantly understood. "So Landon thinks I caused Ophelia's child's death, so he believed Ophelia's words and wanted to retaliate against me." Cecily, realizing the truth, smiled bitterly. "So, do you still believe it?" She looked up at Darian.
"I don't believe it." Darian took out his cell phone. "But take a look at this."
Cecily took the cell phone from Darian and saw 'herself' in the video talking to several men. A remarkably clear voice in the video said, "I want Ophelia and her child dead!" Cecily looked at the woman in the video, and her brows furrowed deeply. 'This person is amazingly similar to her. Even the prominent belly is exactly the same. If this person stood in front of her, Cecily might feel as if she were looking in a mirror.'
"How is this possible? This isn't me!" Cecily furrowed her brows deeply. She had never seen these men before.
"I believe you," Darian said, closing the cell phone. "Is this video real?"
"There's no problem with this video."
"Then..." Cecily's words suddenly stopped. The image of the woman in the black cloak reappeared in her mind, but she couldn't remember what the woman looked like or even when or where she had seen her as if the figure had suddenly appeared from her mind.
"What's wrong?" Cecily's brows furrowed even tighter, and she shook her head. "It's nothing."
"The video was obtained from Ophelia, and she got it unintentionally, and at that time, we all thought you were dead."
"So she only took out this video recently?"
"Yes." Cecily instantly understood. 'It's not easy to find clues to the video from five years ago. Time will blur many things. If they had just gotten the video, maybe they could still identify the people in it, but five years have passed, and it seems almost impossible to investigate. Who is this woman? Why does she look exactly like her? Is she her twin sister? But how is that possible? If she had a twin sister, how could she not know for so many years?' Cecily rubbed her temples, feeling a headache. Whenever she had a headache, her brain would subconsciously avoid these questions.
Darian took Cecily out to dinner and then sent her home as she wished. As for Rowan and Griffin, Cecily couldn't take them home for the time being, or she would have another sleepless night.
When Darian returned to the Fitzgerald Family, Rowan and Griffin were already back. Sandra watched the three of them leave, her face full of deep hatred, but when they returned, their expressions were as if they had just enjoyed something sweet, and she bit her lip lightly. 'It seems that Cecily is back.'
Late at night, Darian was still sitting in the study, busy with the company's affairs, when the door to the study was suddenly pushed open, and Rowan and Griffin quietly pushed the door open a little.
Darian's brows twitched, and he looked up. "Daddy."
"Come in." They had already changed into their pajamas and looked at Darian with anticipation. "Daddy, are you going to bed?"
"I still have some things to take care of."
"Can you do it tomorrow? You should go to bed early and get up early." Darian glanced at the two children, feeling that they seemed to have some intentions. Darian raised an eyebrow slightly and looked at the clock next to him. His mood became pleasant because Cecily was back. "All right."
"Then Daddy, go back to your room quickly." Darian looked at the two children urging him, and after finishing the documents in his hand, he stood up and went back to his own room.
Darian went to the bathroom and took a shower. Although he felt physically exhausted, he found that he couldn't fall asleep, which made him feel very bad. He rubbed his temples and walked to the bed, only to see that the blanket on the bed was slightly raised in two small places, and it kept moving, looking like two small bugs.
Darian lifted the blanket and saw the two children lying on his bed, looking at him with anticipation. "Daddy, you're here! We're going to sleep with you tonight. Come up quickly!" Griffin patted the spot next to him while Rowan moved aside, giving Darian enough space.
Darian's brows twitched harshly. "What are you two doing?"
"Daddy, you can't sleep at night, so here, take this." Darian
He looked at the textbook handed to him, and his brows twitched. "What is this for?"
"This is for you to study. I always feel sleepy when I start studying, and it's really effective. You should try it, too." Darian felt speechless after hearing that.
Griffin curled up in the blanket and then said to Darian, "Daddy, start reading."
Darian pinched his brows in silence. "Can you say it directly?"
"Can we really say it directly?" Griffin blinked his eyes, which were shining with excitement.
"Yes."
"Then Daddy, lie down." They each grabbed one of Darian's hands from both sides. Darian helplessly leaned back on the bed, and Griffin smiled and said, "Daddy..."
Darian looked at the two of them speechlessly. Griffin reached out to massage Darian's shoulders. "Daddy, we want to discuss something with you." Rowan said, "We want to live with Mommy."
Darian knew they were going to bring up this matter. Seeing Darian not speaking, the two of them became anxious and quickly added, "Don't worry, we won't leave you alone. Otherwise... we'll come back once a week and leave a day specifically for you, okay?"
Darian was almost moved to tears. 'There are seven days in a week, but they only left one day for him, and it was forced...'
Rowan asked, "Daddy, is that okay?"
"No," Darian refused.
"Why?" Griffin and Rowan asked anxiously. Although they thought Daddy was also good, they still preferred Mommy.
"It would be chaotic," Darian said with a stern face. "Do you want Owen to go after her?" Griffin and Rowan immediately shook their heads. 'Although Owen is good to them, he is a bad guy to their Mommy.'
"So you can only stay here and let your Mommy live a peaceful life, or..." Darian raised an eyebrow. "Why don't you say let her move here?"
Rowan and Griffin's eyes lit up. "Can we?" 'It would be best if the whole family could live together. They have feelings for Daddy now and don't want to leave Daddy.'
"Of course, you go and persuade her to remarry me." Griffin pouted, "But obviously, Mommy doesn't want to remarry you."
Darian fell silent for a moment. "Do you want her to come back?"
"Of course." Rowan and Griffin nodded together.
"So we have to work together." Griffin hugged his little arm and muttered, "If you don't treat Mommy well, we won't help you at all." Rowan nodded, "That's right."
"I will treat her well."
"Actions speak louder than words." Griffin hid in the blanket and said, "It's not so easy for you to want us to help you. We don't want to push Mommy to someone who will cause her harm." 'That person who causes harm is Darian.' Darian knew they were talking about him and felt speechless.
Darian looked at the two of them, who seemed ready to sleep in his bed. He pulled his lips in silence. "Go down and go back to your own room to sleep."
"No, we're going to sleep here tonight. Daddy, come up quickly. We know you won't sleep well at night, so we have to keep an eye on you." Darian was in a good mood today, so he didn't immediately drive them out. But soon, he regretted it because Griffin and Rowan slept on both sides of him, which made him very uncomfortable. Especially Griffin, who always squeezed over and put his hands and feet on him, Darian originally couldn't sleep, and now it became even more difficult. Darian turned over, and they followed suit... An hour passed, and the bed was full of rustling sounds. Darian couldn't stand it anymore, so he reached out and turned on the light, shouting in a low voice, "Griffin Anderson!"
Griffin looked up, "What? Daddy, what's wrong?"
Darian said helplessly, "Stop squeezing me!"
"But I can't sleep!" Rowan also raised his head, "I can't sleep either."
Darian frowned, then picked up the blanket and got up, "Get up."
"Daddy, where are we going?"
"To find your Mom." As soon as Griffin and Rowan heard that they were going to find Cecily, they immediately got up without hesitation. Griffin, who usually takes more than ten minutes to get dressed, now only took two minutes to get dressed. "Let's go, Daddy."
Darian quickly changed into a casual outfit, put on a black coat, and then took Griffin and Rowan out. Just as they reached the bottom of the stairs, a stern voice sounded, "Where are you three going?"
Rowan and Griffin immediately became alert.
