Chapter 314 Son Doesn't Want Dad, Quite Impressive
Eliza couldn't hold back her tears, and Desmond furrowed his brow. After the events of the evening, they needed to seriously consider whether it was safe for her to remain with the Bennett family.
Desmond paused for a moment before reassuringly stating, "Get some rest for now. I've already arranged for someone to stand guard outside your room. You'll be safe.”
With that, Desmond didn't intend to stay any longer.
Eliza was aware that he was still upset with her for the incident earlier that day, but she was determined not to miss this chance. She kept on crying, "Desmond, that impostor and the Fitzgerald family are so arrogant. I'm truly afraid that the events of last night and tonight might be repeated. Why don't you allow me to stay with the Bennett family? That way, my safety would be ensured, wouldn't it?”
Upon hearing Eliza's words, Desmond thought of Darian's words. After a few seconds of contemplation, he asked, "Is there any personal grudge between you and Darian?"
Eliza's eyes flickered, knowing exactly what Darian had said. Of course, she wouldn't admit to anything.
"No, what personal grudge could I have with him? Everything he's done is to allow that imposter to replace me. Sir, please don't believe his words."
Desmond felt a headache coming on. None of these people seemed entirely truthful—Darian, Cecily, and the others. The complex relationships between these individuals left him unable to differentiate between truth and lies for a moment. As Desmond reflected on recent events, from the poisoning to Mrs. Fitzgerald's accusation of Eliza's plastic surgery at the banquet, and then Eliza's claim that another Cecily had sent assassins after her, followed by Darian's near attempt on her life tonight, it all appeared as a convoluted mess. Suddenly, Desmond realized he had overlooked a crucial piece of information—Eliza!
Regardless of whether what Mrs. Fitzgerald said was true or not, Eliza needed to be investigated.
After Eliza finished speaking and didn't see Desmond's response, she nervously clenched her fists. "Desmond, you..."
"I understand. You rest well," Desmond said without further ado, turning and leaving the ward.
Eliza frowned, her face growing cold as Desmond's demeanor suggested he was still hesitant to welcome her back into the Bennett family. She had hoped that this situation would pave the way for her return, but it appeared that it was not going to be that easy.
Desmond directed his team to look into the Eliza mentioned by Sandra Thompson, as she might have ties to the incident and could offer some valuable insights.
Eliza, not one to stay passive, verified that Desmond had departed and made an effort to rise from the bed. Approaching the door, she encountered two guards stationed outside. Eliza pressed her lips together and remarked, "I require some rest. I don't appreciate having individuals lingering outside the door while I sleep. There is no danger, so you may also take a break.”
"Sorry, miss, Desmond's orders are to guard you. We can't leave," one of the guards replied.
Frustrated, Eliza found that the Bennett's Family personnel were strictly following Desmond's orders, rendering her words ineffective.
"But I don't like having someone standing outside while I sleep. You can guard the elevator instead. If there are any suspicious individuals, it prevents them from getting close to me, and you won't technically be leaving," Eliza insisted.
After persisting for a while, the two guards had no choice but to move to guard the elevator.
A man dressed as a doctor soon visited Eliza after she returned to the ward.
Leaning against the bed, Eliza looked at him indifferently. This man was her subordinate, Matthias.
Matthias removed his mask and looked at Eliza, "Miss, it's my fault for not protecting you well, leading to you being abducted by the Fitzgerald's Family."
Eliza coldly smiled. "It's not your fault. There was no way you could have prevented what the Fitzgerald family had planned for me. Have they been found?"
Matthias lowered his head, looking troubled. "Not yet."
The person Eliza mentioned was being sought by Cecily's Vincent.
"What's happening with all of you? You were able to capture him before, but now you've lost him. It's been days, and you still haven't located him. What good are you?" Eliza was growing increasingly frustrated.
Matthias bowed his head even lower. "Miss, on that day, he fled with Cecily. You know how skilled he is. Once he escapes, it's difficult to apprehend him."
Eliza rubbed her temples, sensing a headache coming on. "Don't try to justify your failure with excuses.”
Matthias lowered his head even more.
"Continue the search; don't let him find Cecily, or things will get complicated."
"Yes."
Eliza waved her hand, signaling him to leave.
Resting her head on her hand, she closed her eyes and had a sudden realization. Owen had been assigned by Vivienne to safeguard Cecily. However, he mistook her for Cecily due to their resemblance.
At first, this mix-up seemed harmless, but Vivienne must have given him specific instructions, leading him to say some suspicious things to her before realizing she wasn't the real Cecily.
Thankfully, she acted quickly by drugging him to induce confusion and memory loss, then keeping him confined until the situation calmed down.
But he was clever, realizing he would gradually forget things, so he took precautions.
Eliza didn't know how much he had secretly recorded.
If she had known, she wouldn't have shown mercy. Instead of just poisoning him, which now posed a significant risk, she should have killed him directly.
Her only relief was that without the antidote she periodically fed him, he wouldn't live long.
Time was running out.
Eliza narrowed her eyes. No matter how clever he was, he couldn't escape her grasp.
Early the next morning.
Cecily knew she had to return to Silver Frost Capital today, so she got up early.
Darian was up even earlier than her. Cecily finished dressing and went to the restaurant outside.
Darian, in a suit, sat at the table, calmly sipping his coffee.
Cecily walked over calmly. "Good morning."
Darian set down his coffee and looked at her gently. " Good morning."
They both silently skirted around the events of the previous night, keeping up a facade of normalcy as if nothing had occurred. Nevertheless, the two younger ones appeared slightly uneasy.
The two children poked at the steamed bread in front of them, turning a perfectly good bread into a mess.
Seeing their unhappy faces, Cecily glanced at Darian for an explanation.
Darian arched an eyebrow, stealing a quick glance at the two children who were also watching him.
Their eyes locked, and they gazed at each other, with Griffin's mouth puckered as if he wanted to playfully poke Darian like a bread.
Cecily served two plates of Lentil Soup to the children, asking with concern, "Darlings, what's wrong? Why are you upset?"
Upon hearing Cecily's question, the children turned their attention back to her, their expressions filled with sadness as they quietly pursed their lips.
Griffin, speaking softly, said, "Mommy, Daddy took you away last night," with Rowan nodding in agreement.
They were furious. They had slept peacefully last night, but this morning, Mommy was missing. Upon seeing Mommy had returned to her room, they knew Daddy had taken her away.
Darian calmly took a sip of his coffee. "She was mine to begin with."
"No, she wasn't," Griffin retorted directly to Darian. "Mommy belongs to me and my brother, not you. If you don't believe it, ask Mommy. Mommy doesn't want you."
"That's right." Rowan nodded, his face serious as he echoed Griffin's words.
Cecily smiled and stood firmly by the children's side. "That's right."
"See, Mommy said so." Griffin smirked at Darian.
That smug expression, his tail almost wagging in the air.
Cecily looked at Rowan and Griffin's adorable expressions, reaching out to ruffle their heads, her smile becoming more lively and charming.
"Mommy will be with us from now on. We don't want him." Griffin ran over to cling to Cecily.
Just a moment ago, Darian appeared calm, but his smile vanished as he found himself "isolated" by them. He reached out to separate the two bothersome little ones, remarking, "The son doesn't want the dad, quite impressive.”
