Chapter 95 Let's do the Math

Ophelia's face changed instantly. "It's not like that, Darian. I was just riled up when I said those things."

"What did she do to make you so angry?" Darian's expression was chillingly cold. "Was it her standing by the side of the road that irritated you? Or was it because she didn't obediently stay put to be hit, which upset you?"

"It wasn't me who wanted to hit her. It was Elysia who accidentally turned the steering wheel too sharply, so we nearly hit Ms. Cecily. We were very remorseful at the time," Ophelia said in a weak voice, trying to sound sincere.

"Accidentally", "nearly", "remorseful".

"Really? I don't think so." Darian's eyes brimmed with a cold gaze as he tossed the tablet to Larkin standing beside him.

The intention of that car couldn't have been more obvious. Both individuals stepped out with a look of regret on their faces, almost as if they wished the hit missed was written across their foreheads.

Ophelia clenched her fists so tightly she almost drew blood from her palms.

Under Darian's penetrating stare, she felt completely exposed.

Tabitha had also seen the surveillance footage. However, she didn't think her daughter had said anything wrong. Instead, it was Cecily who infuriated her. She had no right to be so arrogant.

"Ophelia is not wrong," Tabitha stated, "Besides, she wasn't even the one driving. It was Cecily who started the physical altercation. What right does she have to hit Ophelia?"

Seeing her own daughter being hit, Tabitha felt her heart ached. If it weren't for the protection Cecily had, she would surely teach her a lesson.

"This needs to be addressed today," Tabitha demanded of Darian.

Darian's eyes narrowed, a piercing chill emanating from them. "What kind of resolution are you looking for?"

"Cecily should pay back twice as much for what she did to Ophelia."

Darian's eyelids lifted slightly as his eyes swept over Ophelia and the others, pondering. He slowly said, "All right."

A slight frown crossed Cecily's forehead, but her expression barely changed. She wasn't surprised that Darian would take Ophelia' side.

"Let's settle this clearly." Darian's voice was low and detached.

Ophelia took a deep breath, suppressing her unease, and shot Cecily a challenging look.

'See, Darian always sided with me.'

Darian said, "If someone has been hit, it's only right they get compensated, and paying back double isn't too much."

Cecily heard Darian's voice resonate over her head.

Ignoring the bitterness at the corners of her mouth, she lifted her gaze to meet Darian's dark pupils, her lips pressed tightly, silent.

The gleam in Ophelia' eyes brightened, as if Darian was about to punish Cecily just for her, and in her eyes, she had already won.

Blaise's eyes were filled with murderous intent. If Darian so much as touched Cecily that day, he was certain to make him pay a steep price.

"Get a car ready," Darian said, his gaze falling on Larkin, making it clear that he was talking to him.

Nobody knew what Darian meant, but Larkin immediately set off to do as he was told.

Tabitha found it strange and asked, "What do you need a car for?"

"Since we're settling scores, we might as well do it together."

Now, most people seemed to understand Darian's intention. Tabitha squinted her eyes and asked, "You're not thinking of having Cecily drive a car to hit back, are you?"

"Is there a problem?" the man retorted.

"Why should she? The driver wasn't Ophelia, and it was just an accident."

"Wasn't she in the car?" Darian didn't want to elaborate, maintaining an attitude of wanting to deal with the situation fairly.

However, in reality, everyone could see that he evidently had the desire to protect Cecily.

"Any other questions?"

Larkin had returned by then. "Mr. Fitzgerald, the car is ready."

"Good, let's begin," Darian said indifferently, showing no signs of joking.

Surprised by Darian's words, Cecily watched as his gaze fell on her. She subconsciously followed his lead and said, "Sure, I don't see a problem, but I'm not very good at driving. What happens if I accidentally kill someone?"

"That would just be a two-million-dollar problem. You're telling me you can't come up with two million?" Darian asked with a smile.

Cecily laughed. "Okay, as long as Ms. Ophelia doesn't hold a grudge in the afterlife."

Ophelia's face turned pale, and beads of sweat the size of beans dripped slowly down her cheeks.

"I don't want this," she shouted in refusal.

Cecily was bound to take this opportunity for revenge. Coupled with what Darian had said, she was convinced Cecily wouldn't miss the chance to take her out.

She didn't want to die.

"Hmm?" Darian's inquisitive look rested on the ashen-faced Ophelia. "Wasn't this your suggestion? Why the sudden change of heart?"

"I... I don't blame Ms. Cecily anymore, let's call it even." Ophelia wouldn't dare to joke with her own life unless she had a death wish.

"Brave enough until it's your turn, huh?" Darian raised an eyebrow slightly.

Sweat kept streaming down Ophelia's face, her body tensed up as she bit her lip and bowed her head.

Tristan and Tabitha were displeased with Darian's partiality to Cecily, but since he insisted on resolving it this way, they had no choice but to grit their teeth and swallow their resentment, waiting for another day to settle scores.

They agreed to call it even, but the matter of leaving Ophelia on the outskirts had not been settled yet. That couldn't just be wiped away.

Tabitha scoffed. "Fine, since this issue is settled, what about leaving Ophelia in the outskirts?"

"It was me who did it, it was me who left her, come settle it with me." Blaise smiled coldly; his voice tinged with a sick sense of excitement. He was actually curious to see how this family planned to settle the score with him.

Darian remained silent, brows raised, with no intention of getting involved.

Now that Cecily was out of the picture, abandoning Ophelia on the outskirts was someone else's doing. Each debt has its debtor, and since the issue concerned the Flores family alone, he preferred not to interfere.

Tabitha started to speak, choking on her words, "This is of because of the bad woman Ce..."

However, before she could finish, a wave of murderous intent hit them. Darian and Blaise's glacial gaze swept toward her almost simultaneously.

The next second, a gunshot rang out, and a bullet grazed a long cut across Tabitha's face.

Tabitha held her breath in fear, stunned for three full seconds before finally realizing what happened and clutching her face, her hand coming away with warm blood.

"Mom!" Ophelia screamed.

Tabitha was too shocked to breathe. "You!"

"If I hear one more insult directed at her, I promise my bullet won't miss your throat next time." Blaise's icy gaze nailed her, as unforgiving as a devil.

Tristan steadied his wife, both drenched with cold sweat. He held both Tabitha and Ophelia back, not planning any foolish moves.

Cecily took a deep breath and gave Blaise a slight shake of her head.

Then, Blaise finally tucked away his gun.

The subtle gestures between the two did not escape Darian's notice, and his gaze grew icy cold.

"Ophelia's still hurt. It's not wise for us to linger. We will settle this matter later," Tristan calmly stated, casting a glance over the group, then led Tabitha and Ophelia away.

Tabitha and Ophelia were clearly not satisfied but given the current circumstance, they were not in a position to press further, so they left it at that.

Once the situation had cooled off, Cecily sighed, her gaze shifting toward Darian as she asked indifferently, "Can I go now?"

Darian's brows were furrowed. He had no reason to keep Cecily there any longer. Without another glance at him, Cecily took a step toward Blaise and said quietly, "Let's go."

"Hey." Blaise tilted his head, noticing the redness on her cheek. He frowned. "Who hit you?"
