Chapter 433 Only One Can Survive

"Vivienne, what are you planning?" Jennifer's voice shook as she looked at Vivienne.

Vivienne ignored her and walked away.

Jennifer, held by two people, was about to scream when something sharp pressed against her back. She froze, staying silent.

Desmond took Bryan and Cecily to a quiet café.

The place was peaceful. Bryan looked around but didn't see Vivienne. "When's she coming?"

Desmond replied calmly, "Ms. Bennett didn't say."

"Didn't say?" Bryan frowned, feeling something was off.

Seeing Cecily there, he felt a bit reassured.

Cecily noticed Bryan's worried look.

This place was supposed to be relaxing, but with Bryan, it felt tense, like a negotiation.

Cecily sipped her coffe, sensing Vivienne wouldn't show up tonight.

Desmond aimed to keep Bryan occupied while Bryan and Cecily sat in silence. Bryan's gaze fell upon Cecily's cheek, still bearing the mark of his previous assault.

His eyes darkened with regret. He had lost control, worried about Freya.

Bryan stared at Cecily, lost in thought. She didn't resemble Wade much, maybe more like Vivienne.

He didn't dwell on it.

Cecily looked out at the busy street, not noticing Bryan's gaze.

After about ten minutes, Bryan checked his watch and frowned. "When's your mother coming?"

Cecily shrugged. "I don't know."

"Don't know?"

Cecily saw his disbelief. "You called me here halfway through."

She knew Vivienne wouldn't come but didn't tell Bryan.

"Maybe something came up." Cecily poured more coffe, sounding casual.

Bryan scrutinized her but found no clues. Still, something felt wrong.

He called Vivienne, no answer. Then Jennifer, no answer. Finally, Sam, but his phone was off.

"She did this on purpose. She never intended to come, did she?" Bryan realized, his face darkening. "What's she trying to do?"

Cecily looked at him seriously. "Why don't you ask what Jennifer and Freya did? If they did nothing, would we trouble them?"

"Freya saved your child. She's still in danger. What are you all fighting about?" Bryan's tone grew heavier, knocking loudly on the table.

"I've said from the start, we repay kindness and settle scores."

Cecily chuckled. "You already guessed it. If they did nothing, my mother and I wouldn't treat them like this after she saved my child.

But you feel sorry for Freya, think she's pitiful, and feel sorry for Jennifer, so you hope this can be resolved since we weren't seriously hurt."

Bryan said nothing, tacitly agreeing.

He wasn't a fool; he could see the situation. But Cecily and Vivienne were always strong, while Jennifer and Freya seemed weak. He subconsciously sided with the weak, a bias he was used to.

Bryan didn't say another word, abruptly stood up, and strode out.

Cecily glanced at the time and didn't stop him.

From the hospital to here took about ten minutes, and they had been sitting for another ten minutes. By the time Bryan got back, it would be too late.

"Miss Watson, Mr. Whitaker has left," Desmond walked over.

"Okay," Cecily nodded, placing her cup on the table. "What does my mom want to do with Jennifer?"

Desmond didn't hide anything from Cecily and said, "Ms. Bennett said that Freya saved Rowan's life. This is a favor, and we need to repay it."

Cecily was puzzled. "How do we repay that?"

"Between Freya and Jennifer, only one can survive."

Freya saved Rowan, so Vivienne wouldn't touch her this time. If Freya hadn't saved Rowan, neither Freya nor Jennifer would be alive now.

Cecily exhaled lightly, remained silent for a few seconds, then looked away. "But that would dirty her own hands."

"Of course, she wouldn't dirty her own hands with such matters."

Desmond said calmly, his expression unchanged, as if discussing something utterly ordinary.

Cecily's eyes deepened as she looked out the window, saying nothing more.

Jennifer stood trembling before Vivienne, who was seated on a sofa with Gary standing behind her.

Jennifer didn't know where she was, but she knew that since Vivienne had taken her, she wouldn't let her go easily. She swallowed hard, trying to stay calm.

"Vivienne, what do you want by bringing me here? Freya is still in the ICU. I need to go back and take care of her. Just say what you have to say."

Vivienne slowly lifted her head and looked at Jennifer. "She doesn't need your care. I've sent someone to look after her. We have plenty of time to settle this matter."

Hearing this, Jennifer looked at Vivienne in panic. "You sent someone to take care of Freya? What do you want to do to her? Vivienne, she saved your grandson. And you..."

Vivienne didn't understand why Jennifer was reacting so strongly. Did she think she would harm Freya?

If so, she was gravely mistaken.

"I really just sent someone to take care of her," Vivienne smiled, looking at the terrified Jennifer. "You don't believe me?"

Of course, Jennifer didn't believe her.

Vivienne clapped her hands lightly, and someone went over to pick up a TV remote, turning on the screen.

The screen showed a live feed from Freya's ward. Freya was still lying in bed, and a doctor stood beside her, holding a syringe filled with an unknown transparent liquid.

Jennifer's eyes widened. She immediately recognized that the doctor was not Freya's attending physician but someone she had never seen before. She had no idea what was in that syringe.

Jennifer's face was filled with abject terror. She lunged forward, kneeling in front of Vivienne, clutching her arm tightly, her eyes bloodshot as she stared at Vivienne, gritting her teeth. "What do you want? Tell me!"

Vivienne's face remained calm as always. She gently pushed Jennifer's hand away.

"Don't worry, I remember the favor she did by saving Rowan. I won't forget. But do you remember what I said at the door of the operating room?"

Jennifer's eyes widened.

"If Freya dies, I'll accompany her with my life. If we find out you hired the assassin, I'll treat you the same way."

Vivienne looked down and smoothed out the wrinkles in her clothes caused by Jennifer's grip. "So now, let's make a choice."

"What choice?" Jennifer asked, her lips trembling.

Vivienne raised her hand. "Freya saved Rowan, so we owe you a life. Now, this life is returned to you. Only one of you can survive. The choice is yours: your life for hers, or hers for yours."
