Chapter 279 Just Trust Him Again
Eliza smiled slightly. "So, Miss Imposter, I hope you can understand my feelings."
"I can understand. After all, having someone take over your face and identity while calling you an imposter is quite disturbing. I'm also afraid I won't be able to reclaim this identity," Cecily replied in a light tone.
The two of them were mocking each other.
Eliza's mouth twitched, her eyes hardening with suppressed anger.
Cecily faintly curved her lips, not saying anything more. They were just mocking each other. More words wouldn't change a thing.
Evan and Caleb also knew how to seize the moment. Seeing the tense atmosphere, they didn't let the situation escalate further.
Evan spoke up at the right time, "It's also our fault for being delayed by a small matter and not coming out to greet you personally. Please, come inside first."
Evan took the initiative to ease the tension and helped dissolve the standoff. Cecily nodded slightly with a smile.
Eliza returned to her room and, in a fit of anger, swept a refined coffee set off the table. "Hmph, what a cunning bitch."
Raphael pushed Matilda towards the door, listening to the commotion inside. Both of them had a change in their expressions.
"Cecily, what's going on?" Matilda remembered Eliza's warning and referred to her as Cecily at the Bennett family.
Eliza's eyes turned red, and she gave them a signal to close the door before speaking.
"It's that bitch Cecily. She's already here at the Bennett family. Tomorrow is the day of the banquet, where they will announce me as the heiress. Now that she's here, I don't know what kind of trouble she'll cause."
Eliza clenched her fists tightly, her eyes filled with anger.
Matilda and Raphael exchanged a glance. Raphael expressed his disdain, "She's always been rather brazen. You should be careful."
Eliza tightly gripped the edge of the table with her fingers. "I will absolutely not let her interfere with my plans."
Matilda furrowed her brow and asked, "What do you plan to do?"
Eliza walked towards a locked cabinet in the room, and after opening it, she took out a delicate bottle and held it between her fingertips, gently caressing it.
"If she dares to stand in my way, she might as well die early."
Originally, Eliza didn't plan to kill Cecily so soon, as she wasn't her initial target. Her main targets were Vivienne and the Bennett family.
But after several confrontations with Cecily, she felt immense pressure, which forced her to accelerate her plans.
Eliza narrowed her eyes, staring at the bottle in her hand, a fierce light flashing in her eyes.
She couldn't be blamed. After all, Cecily was Vivienne's daughter and an obstacle.
"You want to kill her? Don't forget she has Darian by her side," Matilda reminded with concern.
Eliza certainly didn't forget, so this had to be done without anyone noticing, without any flaws.
Evan personally escorted Cecily and the others to their room.
Cecily was staying with the Bennett family, and the three elders had no objections. Everything was arranged according to Evan's plan.
Evan walked alongside Darian and Cecily, observing how Darian naturally held onto Cecily's hand. Evan raised an eyebrow and said, "I heard that you two divorced before. How..."
Cecily noticed that Darian was tightly holding her hand and tried to pull it back, but Darian wouldn't let go. It seemed like he really liked holding her hand, wanting to do so wherever they went.
Darian's lips parted slightly as he calmly replied, "We are getting remarried."
Remarried?
A flicker of surprise crossed Cecily's mind.
Darian's gaze fell gently on her face, with a hint of tender and affectionate smile. "Isn't that right, Cecily?"
Cecily felt his hand gently tightening around hers. She looked up and met Evan's inquisitive gaze.
Cecily's eyes shimmered as she nodded. "Yes."
Evan's eyes were smiling. "I see. Congratulations then."
Darian responded lightly, "Thank you."
Reaching the door of the room, Evan pushed it open. "Please, make yourselves comfortable. Treat this as your own home and ask the servants if you need anything."
Cecily nodded gently. "Thank you for your hospitality."
Evan left, and Darian exchanged a glance with Larkin, who nodded in understanding.
In someone else's territory, they couldn't afford to let their guard down.
Larkin turned and left.
Evan had arranged a room for the two of them, indicating that they were to stay together.
This suited Darian just fine.
As the door closed, Cecily looked at Darian and asked, "Why did you say that just now?"
Darian smiled and gently traced his warm fingers on her face. "Cecily, don't you know how useful it is for you to be my wife in public?"
With the Fitzgerald family's support, no one would dare to disrespect Cecily.
Cecily understood Darian's intention.
Since she was his wife, if anyone dared to harm her, they would have to consider if they could afford to offend him first.
"You don't want to use this identity?"
Cecily smiled lightly. She wasn't ungrateful. He was helping her, and hesitating further would be too much. "No, it's just that I feel like I'm using you in this way."
"I am willing to be used by you."
Cecily's hand, which was hanging by her side, tightened slightly. Darian's deep and magnetic voice caused a momentary short circuit in her brain, leaving her momentarily speechless. After a brief pause, Cecily said, "Thank you."
"Can I ask for a little reward?"
"A reward?"
"Yes," Darian replied, his tall figure drawing closer.
Cecily couldn't help but take a step back, her back against the door, feeling a bit tense.
Her gaze trembled slightly, and she quickly averted her eyes. "As thanks, I'll treat you to a meal when we go back."
"I don't like eating."
Darian's warm palm cradled her chin, raising her face to meet his gaze. This position was perfect for a kiss.
Darian looked into her eyes, his dark gaze carrying a hint of playfulness. "Do you know what I want?"
Cecily pursed her lips. "Can I pretend not to know?"
Darian smirked. "It's up to you."
After all, in his hands, what he wanted, she couldn't escape from.
Cecily was still thinking about how to find an excuse to escape the current situation when Darian pressed down on her.
Cecily's body trembled slightly, pressing against the door.
Darian pulled her into his arms effortlessly, their breaths intermingling, filled with each other's intoxicating scent.
Not being rejected, Darian dispelled any lingering concerns and deepened the kiss.
Owen was right; he was infatuated with her, consumed by the longing to be close to her, to kiss her, to possess her.
Cecily tightly held onto his clothes, unprecedentedly not refusing the kiss.
At that moment, her heart was pounding fiercely. Her legs felt weak, but she was caught by his arms and lowered onto the bed, her back meeting the soft mattress as he leaned over her.
Cecily's eyes trembled slightly, and a hint of rationality returned. She raised her hand to block his lips. "You're asking for quite a lot with this 'thank you'."
Darian looked at her lush, reddened lips and her shy face. He couldn't help but ask, "Do you really think you're just giving me thanks?"
Seeing the smile gradually fade from Darian's handsome face, Cecily forced a smile. "It's not what you said."
Darian lowered his head and lightly nibbled on her lips. "I just wanted to kiss you. You didn't refuse just now, and you were moved, so you couldn't resist."
"I didn't." Cecily turned her face away.
"You didn't?"
"Yes."
Darian nodded. "Then why didn't you refuse?"
She took a moment but didn't have an answer. Her mind had been in a haze, unable to articulate why she hadn't resisted.
But deep down, she knew it had nothing to do with the reward he mentioned.
Perhaps she couldn't deny that she had been moved just now.
Darian quietly gazed into her beautiful eyes, as if trying to see through her soul.
Seeing her hesitation, Darian felt satisfied. He spoke, "They say love makes two people naturally drawn to each other, wanting to kiss and possess each other. Can I assume that you still have me in your heart?"
Did she still have him in her heart?
Cecily felt a surge of emotions but remained silent, not uttering a word.
"Alright, I understand." Darian's eyes revealed a hint of joy, and his gentle voice continued, "It's okay if you don't say it now. One day, I will make you admit that you still have me in your heart."
As Cecily listened to Darian's words, her heart raced, but a tinge of sorrow unexpectedly welled up in her eyes.
"If only you had treated me this way a few years earlier, it would have been so much better."
If that had been the case, they wouldn't have divorced, and the children wouldn't have suffered so much.
Darian's heart clenched, followed by a wave of pain. He sighed deeply, lowered his head, and gently kissed her eyes.
"I didn't do well before, but I won't be the same in the future. I will keep my word."
Cecily sniffed, and after a significant pause, she whispered, "Alright."
The kiss hesitated at her response, and Darian looked at her with surprise in his dark eyes. "Are you willing to give me a chance?"
Cecily remained silent for two seconds, then reached out and embraced his neck.
This time, Darian was not calm. His body was suddenly pulled down, but he caught himself in time, preventing himself from falling on top of her.
Cecily let out a soft sigh in her heart.
She had decided to trust him once again.
