Chapter 614: What Should Nathaniel Do?
"Come on. Get up already," Cecily said, rushing to help Aurelie.
Cecily had been calling Aurelie every day from Detroit, but today, her phone was dead.
Feeling something was off, she sent someone to check on Aurelie's apartment and found out she'd been kidnapped.
So, she had Desmond arrange a private jet and flew over with Darian.
Hearing a ruckus inside, Cecily feared the worst. Without waiting for permission, they barged in, which was kinda rude.
Their sudden entrance made the people inside grab weapons, making things a bit dicey.
Cecily glanced at Darian. He patted her head, "I got this."
Darian looked at a nearby guy, "Take me to your boss."
The guy sized him up. People with a strong vibe always got respect, and those who dared to barge in here were definitely special.
He didn't attack Darian but gestured, "Follow me."
Darian looked back at Larkin, "Stay here and protect Mrs. Fitzgerald."
"Got it." Larkin stood by Cecily.
Darian followed the guy into a room. The casino owner, Todd, had already seen them on the surveillance and wasn't happy.
But when Darian walked in, Todd turned around, looked him in the eye, and said, "Mr. Fitzgerald, you here to mess up my place?"
Darian unbuttoned his suit, sat on the sofa, and pulled out a check for Aurelie's debt, "This enough?"
They knew of each other, even if they hadn't dealt directly. Todd had heard of Darian, so he kept his cool despite the intrusion.
Glancing at the check, Todd raised an eyebrow and smirked, "Is Aurelie that important to you guys that you're lining up to pay her debts?"
"I'm married, don't start rumors," Darian said flatly.
"You got a wife and you're paying another woman's debt? Is she okay with that?" Todd asked.
Darian's eyes turned icy, "She's my wife's friend!"
"Helping your wife's friend behind her back, sounds like a love triangle. Juicy," Todd laughed.
Silence.
Darian raised an eyebrow, "Use your brain or shut up."
Todd picked up the check, rubbed it between his fingers, and clicked his tongue, "If you got money to give me, I'll take it. But seriously, doesn't your wife mind you paying another woman's debt?"
He was stuck on that. Darian didn't bother explaining.
The money was from Cecily. He was broke; how would he get so much money to pay another woman's debt?
But this wasn't charity. He'd get Nathaniel to pay it back later.
"Let them go," Darian said, looking at the computer screen.
"Nope," Todd leaned back, "We got rules. No one leaves until it's over. Even if you pay the debt, rules are rules."
Darian's eyes darkened, "What if someone dies?"
"He signed an agreement. If he dies, it's on him. If he lives, all grudges are settled. Fair and square," Todd shrugged.
A loud noise made both men look up. The commotion was from the next room.
When Darian looked at the computer screen, it had already gone black.
"What's the deal?" Todd frowned, annoyed he couldn't watch the action.
A lackey rushed in, "Sir, something went down inside, and the camera's busted."
"Then fix it, now!" Todd barked.
"But, uh, we can't get in!" The lackey stammered.
"Damn it," Todd muttered, looking a bit regretful, "Whoever broke my camera, find 'em later and make 'em pay!"
"Let them go!" Darian snapped, losing his patience. From the earlier feed, Nathaniel was in bad shape and couldn't last much longer.
Seeing Darian's anger, Todd raised an eyebrow and smirked, "I really can't. The door's locked from the inside. Without a key, I can't get in either. I'm not lying. Didn't you see the busted camera? We can't even get in to fix it."
"Tell the people inside to stop," Darian demanded.
Todd sneered, "Are you kidding? You saw it yourself. They're already going at it like wild animals. How am I supposed to stop them?"
Darian pulled out a gun and aimed it at Todd. He wanted to handle this peacefully, but Todd was clearly messing with him. Darian had had enough.
Nathaniel couldn't hold on much longer. If they delayed any further, he might end up with a corpse.
He came to get Nathaniel out and couldn't care about anything else.
Seeing the gun pointed at his head, Todd's face turned cold, and his lackeys immediately drew their guns and aimed at Darian.
Todd raised an eyebrow. He knew Darian's reputation. If Darian really wanted to shoot him, his lackeys wouldn't be able to stop him. But Todd wasn't scared. He raised his hand, signaling his lackeys to lower their weapons.
They hesitated for a couple of seconds before putting away their guns.
Todd spoke honestly, "I got a lot of rooms here. Try it yourself. I'm not lying. If you don't believe me, shoot."
The doors were top-notch bulletproof. If locked from the inside, even breaking the lock from the outside wouldn't open them. The design was for safety and to make the games more interesting.
Darian's face turned icy. Todd wouldn't lie at this point. Darian's eyes narrowed dangerously, and he fired a shot beside Todd. The bullet pierced the nearby sofa, leaving a smoking hole.
"You better pray he comes out alive," Darian said.
Todd's brow twitched as he watched Darian stride out. He patted his clothes and followed Darian out.
Darian personally coming to protect Nathaniel changed the situation. He had to take it seriously.
"What's going on? Why haven't they released him?" Cecily anxiously asked Darian as she approached.
She had heard the loud noise from inside and didn't know what had happened, feeling very uneasy. Looking at Aurelie, who was desperately banging on a door that couldn't be opened without a key, she felt even more worried.
"The door's locked. It has to be opened from the inside," Darian explained, implying it couldn't be opened from the outside.
Aurelie also heard Darian's words. Her eyes, red from crying, suddenly turned lifeless, and she slowly slumped to the ground, leaning against the door.
If it couldn't be opened and they couldn't get in, what would happen to Nathaniel? What would he do?
Aurelie couldn't imagine the situation inside and didn't dare to think further.
