Chapter 356 The Truth of Eight Years Ago Revealed
"Darian, it's all true," Hayden said in a heavy voice, sighing as he lowered his head.
Darian's fists clenched, and he swayed slightly.
Hayden stepped forward and said, "Darian..."
Darian raised his hand and asked, "What else did you find out?"
"And about Ophelia leaving and going abroad eight years ago. It wasn't under duress or for any complicated reason. She fled because she heard rumors that you would become a vegetative state and wanted to escape the marriage on her own accord.
During your coma, it was Cecily who took care of you. Your engagement was arranged by Mr. Fitzgerald."
Hayden paused before continuing, As for hiding the kidney donation, it was Owen who kept it a secret. And the reason, you can probably guess, was that after arranging your marriage, he found out that your father had the accident while looking for Cecily's mother.
Cecily looks like Vivienne, so he recognized Cecily as Vivienne's daughter. Unable to find Vivienne, he transferred all his hatred to Cecily."
Hayden didn't continue.
There was no need to; Darian could piece together the rest.
Everyone knew that Owen initially adored Cecily, but his attitude changed drastically without any warning. There was a reason for that.
He adored her because Cecily saved his life, and he was grateful. His attitude changed because Vivienne caused Patrick's death, and he transferred his hatred to Cecily.
Every word Hayden said weighed heavily on Darian's heart.
What Darian heard back then was nothing like this.
No one told him that Cecily had donated a kidney to him. Owen only said that Cecily had taken care of him during his months-long coma and then demanded to marry him, using underhanded means to drive Ophelia away.
Believing Cecily's care for him, Owen agreed to her request, causing Ophelia to leave the country in distress.
In those unverified rumors, everyone was portrayed as good people, except for Cecily, who had donated a kidney and selflessly given so much, yet was depicted as the villain.
At that time, Darian didn't love Cecily at all, so he didn't care whether those words were true or not, nor did he bother to investigate. Over time, he naturally came to believe what he had heard.
Darian stared intently at every word on the paper.
It was as if God had played a colossal joke on him.
The woman he once hated, tormented, and despised had given him a kidney and saved his life.
Darian suddenly stood up and strode out.
Hayden was anxious and quickly followed, "Darian! "
"Uncle Hayden."
Rowan and Griffin saw Darian rushing out and, unable to stop him, called out to Hayden instead.
"Mr. Davis, what's going on?" Cecily also sensed something was wrong.
Darian had just left, ignoring even Rowan and Griffin's calls.
Hayden, with a troubled face, said, "Cecily, there might be trouble."
At the Fitzgerald Manor.
Owen had just returned to Silver Frost Capital yesterday and had been holed up in his room, refusing to see anyone, which has made Sandra very anxious.
Darian, exuding an aura of menace, marched straight upstairs.
"Darian?" Sandra, sitting in the living room, was startled, "You..."
Darian went straight upstairs.
"Darian's back." Josep initially wanted to call out to Darian but saw him storming into Owen's room with a face full of anger.
Josep narrowed his eyes, sensing that something significant was about to happen.
"Mr. Darian Fitzgerald, you're back." Sawyer, seeing Darian, immediately said to Owen with delight, "Mr. Owen Fitzgerald, you were just talking about Mr. Darian Fitzgerald, and here he is."
Owen glanced at Darian, who was radiating anger, and slowly put down his pen.
"Seeing him like this, he's here to argue with me. What's there to be happy about? You can leave now."
Sawyer opened his mouth but eventually closed it and left.
Owen sighed, sat down, and looked at Darian, "Go ahead, what's the matter?"
Darian slammed the documents onto the table.
Owen glanced at them, his brow furrowing deeply.
He knew these documents all too well.
"Don't you have anything to explain?"
"Cecily told you?" Owen sneered.
"Doesn't she have any credibility left? She's no saint. Now that you know, you come to confront me. So what? Does she think I'll agree to you being together if you rebel against me?"
Darian lowered his eyes, his gaze still fixed on those papers.
" Sure enough, she didn't want to say anything. She must have promised you to keep it a secret."
She's a fool.
She still kept her promise, unwilling to tell him anything.
She didn't want to recount the suffering and hardships she endured.
Because she knew that if she did, he would turn against Owen. To maintain some semblance of harmony, she said nothing.
Darian lifted his cold gaze and asked, "Can you tell me what exactly Cecily did wrong to deserve this treatment from you?"
"Don't you know? Her mother caused your father's death!"
" Aside from this, there has been nothing wrong with Cecily's actions over the years. Am I right?"
Owen remained silent.
Darian sneered, "So it seems that being Vivienne's daughter is her only fault."
Owen's eyes darkened. "What are you getting at? I did this out of hatred for her, and for you. Your wife could have been Ophelia or anyone else but her. She's the daughter of your enemy."
"So you let me hate her and torment her without knowing the truth because you knew that only by doing this, I wouldn't fall in love with her and would eventually leave her.
No, even if we didn't separate, after tormenting her enough, you would find a way to drive her away. This is your revenge on Vivienne, all directed at Cecily."
"So what if it is? I can never forget your father's death. I also said you are the future heir of the Fitzgerald family. A woman cannot be your obstacle, cannot be your weakness.
And now, your heart and mind are full of Cecily. For her, you have repeatedly defied me and done outrageous things. Each of these reasons is enough for me to do everything in my power to remove her from your side."
Darian clenched his fists, his eyes deep and dark, "If it weren't for Cecily, I would already be dead."
"Because of her mother, my son is already dead."
Darian laughed coldly. "Fine, keep hating her. My life was saved by her. I owe her forever. I'll give her back this kidney too."
"What are you doing? Darian, get back here!" Owen was furious, shouting in anger.
He knew Darian well; he was capable of doing anything, no matter how crazy.
Darian found it utterly ridiculous, "You can hate her without restraint, but you won't let me return this kidney to her? Grandpa, is that fair to her?"
"If you dare walk out that door today, don't ever come back. If you leave, you will no longer be the future heir of the Fitzgerald Group. Think carefully—is a woman really that important?"
"Is she just a woman?" Darian chuckled lightly, "She is my wife, the mother of my children. Grandpa, we owe her too much. Even if it costs my life, it's worth it.
The heir of the Fitzgerald family doesn't have to be me. You still have Josep, Victor, and if worse comes to worst, you can give it to Aurelia."
With that, Darian left without hesitation.
"Darian!" Owen coughed violently, clutching his chest and bending over, "Fine, if you leave, you will no longer be part of this family. Everything in the Fitzgerald family will go to anyone but you."
Darian didn't stop.
Josep, standing outside, heard everything. He smirked, looking at Darian's expressionless face. "Is it worth it? Just for a woman."
Darian glanced at him, "Congratulations on getting what you wanted."
"I'll take that congratulations, and I'll take the Fitzgerald Group too."
Darian smiled, "If you can handle it, it's all yours."
But the sad truth was, even if Darian handed it over, they might not be able to manage the family business.
Josep's expression changed.
Sandra sat in her wheelchair, her face full of worry. "Darian."
Darian approached, noticing Sandra was alone, indicating that since Josep and his family returned, Sandra hadn't been well cared for.
Darian deftly took hold of Sandra's wheelchair.
"Darian, what did you argue with your grandfather about this time?"
"I know what I'm doing. You don't need to worry or try to persuade me; it won't work."
Sandra sighed, "Where are you taking me?"
"Somewhere more comfortable."
After helping Sandra into the car, Darian called Larkin.
"Arrange for a doctor, an ophthalmologist."
"Boss, does Miss Watson need another eye examination?"
After a few seconds of silence, he said, "No, it's for me."
