Chapter 603: Call Me Husband
Darian had been mulling it over for ages and was done waiting.
Cecily's heart did a little flip, and she muttered, "In such a rush, you think I'm gonna bail?"
Darian grinned, half-joking, "I need some security, babe. What if we hit Detroit and your mom decides she doesn't want you marrying me?"
Cecily leaned in, chin propped up, and smirked, "So you're freaking out 'cause we're heading to Detroit?"
The car stopped, and Darian chuckled, "First time going to Detroit as your hubby, gotta be a bit nervous."
Cecily rarely saw Darian admit he was nervous.
"Let's bounce," Darian said, popping the door open and stepping out.
Cecily glanced back at Griffin and Rowan, "You guys coming or chilling in the car?"
"Of course, we're coming," Griffin and Rowan said, hopping out. "Can't miss this big moment!"
Cecily beamed, "Alright, let's roll."
After the whole wedding shindig, Cecily was a whirlwind of emotions.
She'd been in and out of this place so many times—married, divorced, remarried. Darian was still there. Nine years, and they finally made it.
And now, they had two adorable kiddos.
Looking back, it all felt like a crazy dream.
Cecily smiled softly.
When the divorce papers were trashed and the new marriage cert was in their hands, Darian's eyes lit up. He kept looking at it, grinning like a fool.
"Daddy, let us see," Griffin said, tugging at Darian's hand, bouncing around to get a peek at the cert.
Cecily smiled and handed hers over. Griffin and Rowan huddled together, holding it tight, eyes sparkling.
"Mommy is so beautiful," Griffin gushed.
Darian raised an eyebrow, "And me?"
"Meh, you're alright," Griffin said, giving Darian a side-eye.
Darian was speechless.
Cecily burst out laughing.
"Mommy, can we keep this?" Griffin asked.
"Sure," Rowan said, tucking it away like treasure. "We wanna show Grandma."
Cecily patted their heads, "Okay, Grandma's gonna love it."
Darian smiled silently, "Let's go."
"Darian."
"Call me darling," Darian raised an eyebrow, looking at Cecily with hope.
Cecily hesitated. She was used to calling him Darian, and "darling" felt weird. "I need some time to get used to it."
"Still not used to having a hubby?" Darian pulled Cecily close, arm around her waist, looking down at her.
"The kids are still here, we should chill, right?" Cecily dodged Darian's intense gaze.
Darian glanced at Griffin and Rowan, who quickly got the hint, "We'll go check out the car."
With that, they held hands and dashed off.
Cecily rubbed her forehead. Since when did Griffin and Rowan team up with Darian so well?
"Now you got no excuse. Come on, I'm all ears," Darian grinned.
Cecily sighed, leaning in close and whispering in his ear, "Darling, is this good enough?"
Darian's face lit up with joy. Locking eyes with Cecily, he suddenly cupped the back of her head. Her eyes widened a bit as he leaned in, and she felt the warm, soft touch of his lips.
Her breath caught.
The kiss was quick.
Cecily's cheeks turned a light shade of pink as Darian's lips curled up, "Let's roll, my darling."
Darian grabbed Cecily's hand and led her away.
Cecily smiled, feeling all warm and fuzzy inside.
They headed straight to the airport, and after a few hours in the air, they landed in Detroit.
Cecily hadn't given Vivienne a heads-up.
She had a hunch Vivienne didn't want her to come, so she decided to show up unannounced.
For some reason, thinking about the last time she saw Vivienne made Cecily uneasy.
When they pulled up to the house, Cecily shot a message to Desmond, who quickly came out to greet them, "Ms. Bennett, why didn't you tell me you were coming? I could've sent someone to pick you up."
"No need for that. Where's my mom?" Cecily asked Desmond.
Desmond stammered, pausing a few times before giving a simple answer.
"What's up? Is my mom not home?" Cecily asked.
"Yeah, Ms. Cecily Bennett, you came at a bad time. Ms. Vivienne Bennett isn't home today. She probably won't be back until the evening," Desmond replied.
"She'll be back in the evening?" Cecily found it hard to believe. "Did my mom say what she was up to?"
"No, she probably went somewhere quiet. You know, Mr. Whitaker comes by every day, and Ms. Bennett is pretty annoyed," Desmond answered.
Desmond's words were half-truths, but his calm demeanor made it hard for Cecily to tell if he was lying.
Cecily listened and asked, "Has my mom been acting weird lately?"
"Yeah."
"Like what?" Cecily pressed.
"She had a cold, but she took some meds and is much better now. She looked fine when she went out today," Desmond continued to lie smoothly.
Cecily couldn't find anything off.
"Ms. Bennett, how long are you planning to stay?" Desmond asked cautiously.
"A day or two. I basically want to check my mom out. Got stuff to do at Silver Frost Capital, so I can't stay long," Cecily replied.
Desmond secretly sighed in relief, "I'll get the rooms ready for you."
"Okay," Cecily nodded. As Desmond went to work, she looked at Darian, her brows furrowed.
"What's up?" Darian asked, patting her head.
Cecily sighed, "I don't know. Something feels off, but I can't put my finger on it."
"Maybe you're overthinking it. Just relax," Darian comforted her gently.
Cecily nodded, "Maybe."
She had rushed here to see Vivienne and planned to make it quick, but now she felt more worried and planned to stay longer.
Desmond came back after making arrangements, "Ms. Cecily Bennett, I just called Ms. Vivienne Bennett. She said she'll be back later. She's happy you're here and has set up a family dinner for tonight."
