Chapter 623 Nathaniel's Plan

In the evening, Nathaniel whipped out his phone and dialed up Brent.

On the other end, Brent's voice boomed, "You ditched Lillian at the wedding and now you got the nerve to call me?"

Nathaniel, cool as a cucumber, squinted a bit, "Mr. Lewis, we've always been about scratching each other's backs. The marriage was just a business deal."

Back in the day, Brent wanted to team up with the Kensington family, but with Lillian's baggage, no one in the Kensington clan was up for marrying her.

Terry also wanted an alliance but couldn't find a son to marry Lillian.

Stanley, suggested Nathaniel marry Lillian, wanting to stick it to him. Basically, Nathaniel was just a pawn in their game.

Terry thought it made sense and pushed Nathaniel into the marriage. But Nathaniel didn't give a damn back then and didn't need the Kensington family to get by. If he didn't want to, no one could make him.

But then he realized the Lewis family had way more goodies to offer than he thought, so Nathaniel hit up Brent with his demands.

Nathaniel wanted a piece of the Kensington Group and a spot in the company. Stanley had always been on high alert and would never let him get shares, but Brent had the clout to make it happen.

Brent, being a shrewd businessman, wouldn't do a deal unless it was worth his while. To get Brent's help, Nathaniel had to give something in return.

Marrying Lillian was part one of the deal.

Handing over a quarter of Kensington Group's assets after snagging them was part two.

Kensington Group was a goldmine, who wouldn't want a piece of that?

Brent went quiet for a sec. He knew Nathaniel was a tough nut to crack and now he was worried about what was next.

Brent let out a heavy sigh, "No wonder your dad and brother are so paranoid about you. It's not for nothing. You're calling about the Kensington Group shareholders' meeting in three days, right?"

"Yep," Nathaniel replied.

Brent chuckled darkly, "Lillian said you were dead today. I knew you wouldn't go down that easy. Don't sweat it, what you wanted is ready. But if I don't get what you promised, you're toast."

Brent had busted his butt to help Nathaniel, and if he didn't get his cut, he wasn't gonna let it slide.

"Got it," Nathaniel said, hanging up.

Brent stared at his phone and sighed, muttering, "Good thing he's not dead." Otherwise, all his hard work would've gone down the drain.

"Dad, who were you talking to?" Lillian, in a white dress with her hair all over the place, suddenly popped up at Brent's study door, looking like something out of a horror movie.

Brent nearly jumped out of his skin.

Since the wedding, Lillian's mental state had been going downhill fast, like she'd lost her marbles from the shock.

Brent was super worried about her, who was either breaking stuff at home or wandering around like a zombie.

Brent sighed, thinking he needed to toughen up so she wouldn't scare him to death.

"Just a friend. Why aren't you resting? Go to bed," Brent said, trying to soothe her, not daring to be harsh.

"Really? I thought I heard you mention me," Lillian pressed.

"Just in passing," Brent lied. He was helping Nathaniel, they were in cahoots. Given Lillian's current state, if she knew Nathaniel was still kicking, she'd definitely go looking for him, and Stanley would quickly find out Nathaniel wasn't dead.

Right now, everyone thinking Nathaniel was dead was a good thing; it made Stanley drop his guard.

So, no way was he telling Lillian that Nathaniel was still alive.

Lillian didn't push it, her eyes blank as she nodded and drifted out of Brent's study.

The next day.

Cecily had planned to head to Detroit to see Vivienne and bring Griffin and Rowan back.

But before she could leave, Desmond showed up with Griffin and Rowan in tow.

"Mommy, we're back!" Griffin and Rowan barreled into Cecily's arms.

Cecily was a bit taken aback and looked at Desmond, "Desmond, I was planning to pick them up. Didn't expect you to bring them back."

"The kids missed you. To save you the trip, Ms. Bennett sent me to bring them back," Desmond said with a smile.

It made sense, but Cecily felt like Vivienne did it on purpose to avoid seeing her.

Desmond left after dropping off the kids.

Cecily pulled Griffin and Rowan close and asked seriously, "Rowan, Griffin, how was your time with your grandma?"

"Grandma was great," Griffin answered first.

Rowan nodded seriously beside him, "Yeah."

"I mean, how's her illness?" Cecily asked again.

"Grandma said she's much better. The doctor who came to see her also said so. But sometimes we can't find Grandma, and Desmond said she's busy with something."

Rowan echoed, "That's right."

Hearing this, Cecily felt a bit relieved, "And what about Bryan?"

Griffin rubbed his chin, thinking hard about Cecily's question, "He's still glued to Grandma every day."
