Chapter 322 His Fate, Whether Life or Death
"He knew you wouldn't ignore him and didn't want to burden you, so he left," Elder sighed.
I felt a pang of discomfort in my heart. "Elder, can you really not cure his poison?"
"I can cure it, but I need time to research, prepare, and test. Three days is far from enough."
"Are you saying that if he doesn't get the antidote, he only has three days to live?"
"Yes," Elder confirmed to me.
I felt a complex mix of emotions inside.
After a long silence, I took a deep breath. "All right, I understand. Thank you. I'll be leaving now."
I quickly left and called Vincent. Before I could step out the door, the phone rang in the living room. Filled with anticipation, I immediately turned back.
Perhaps hoping Elder was still lying to me, I thought I might see that familiar figure when I turned around.
But when I looked into the living room, I only saw that familiar phone flashing on the table.
It was Vincent's phone, the one I had bought for him.
He didn't even take his phone, meaning he didn't want me to try to find him!
A sense of loss flashed through my heart.
Elder shook his head, his old face full of helplessness.
I clenched the phone, thinking about the anonymous message: [If you don't want Vincent to die from the poison in front of you, come find me yourself. Don't tell anyone else, or I'll take him with me to the grave. Don't even think about curing the poison I gave him; three days is not enough time.]
I didn't need to think to know who sent this message. It could only be Eliza.
Before leaving, Vincent said he would come back to find me. I believed he hadn't given up, so he must have gone to find Eliza himself!
My vision dimmed. Eliza wanted to use Vincent's poison to make me see her, so her target was me. If I didn't go, even if Vincent went, Eliza wouldn't give him the antidote.
I pondered for a few seconds, opened the chat window, and replied to the anonymous message Address!
After replying, I put the phone back in my pocket and walked out.
I couldn't ignore Vincent, but I also couldn't go recklessly.
In the afternoon, I picked up Rowan and Griffin from home. I asked Griffin, "Griffin, can you do me a favor?"
Griffin, who was fiddling with his computer in the room, turned around and said, "Mommy, tell me."
"Mommy sees you like to tinker with things. Can you help Mommy install a miniature camera that is not easily detected but can record video and sound?"
Griffin thought for a moment and understood what I meant. "Mommy, where do you want to install it?"
"Somewhere not easily found." I thought momentarily, took off the necklace I often wore, and handed it to Griffin. "Can you install it in the pendant?"
Griffin took it and thought seriously. "That's still too easy to find. Mommy, wait. I'll make something hard to detect for you."
I smiled and patted Griffin's head. "Thank you, baby."
Rowan, listening nearby, put down his pen and looked at me. "Mommy, are you planning to do something?"
He could tell I wanted to install a camera on myself for a reason, not just for spying.
My eyes dimmed, and I murmured, "Some things need to be resolved for us to have a peaceful life."
Rowan and Griffin didn't understand what I meant, but they could see I was troubled today, and Vincent was missing.
Griffin asked, "Mommy, where's Vincent? Why isn't he with you today?"
Thinking about his sudden departure, I felt both angry and sad. "He was rebellious and ran away from home."
Rowan and Griffin were a bit surprised.
"Don't follow his example. Always discuss things with me. If you act on your own and leave without saying anything, I'll be very angry. Understand?"
I was angry, but my voice was full of sadness.
"Mommy," they called me softly.
I came back to my senses and sighed deeply.
"All right, I'm going out now. Griffin, please make it as soon as possible."
"Okay, Mommy. I'll have it ready by tomorrow."
Downstairs, Darian came home early today. I was walking and thinking, not noticing Darian before me, and bumping into him unexpectedly.
Darian reached out to steady me, raised an eyebrow, and smiled, looking down at me.
I held my forehead and quickly looked up. Our eyes met, and Darian saw my troubled expression. "Was today not smooth?"
I lowered my eyes and nodded. "Yes, Elder said if Vincent doesn't get the antidote within three days, he'll die from the poison."
Darian's eyes darkened. "Where is he?"
"He left," I said. "I guess he went to find Eliza. Only she has the antidote."
After thinking it over, I told Darian about the anonymous message.
Darian read the message, his expression turning cold. "Are you planning to go?"
"If I don't go, she won't give Vincent the antidote. I can't just watch Vincent die."
"I won't let you go," Darian said more seriously than ever. "It's a trap."
"It's a trap, but if I don't go, Vincent will die."
Darian's face tightened, his voice cold and grim. "He doesn't have much to do with you, Cecily. Just because he calls you sister doesn't mean you really are. You don't need to risk yourself for him."
Hearing this, my expression also turned cold. "So we just watch him die? Whether it's you, me, or him, we all know Eliza's target is me. If I don't go, Eliza won't hand over the antidote. I can't just watch him die."
Darian didn't speak, staring straight at my face. "So you know it's a trap, but you're still going?"
"Counting today, we have two days left. Do we have any other options?"
Eliza dared to send that anonymous message, proving she was already hiding. Unless she came to find us, we wouldn't find her in such a short time.
Our difficulty lay in the urgency of time.
Darian frowned. "I won't let you go. This is not up for discussion. From now on, stay at home."
"Darian!" I raised my voice.
Darian's eyes were dark. "Cecily, your safety is the most important thing to me. Everything else is irrelevant."
Darian's voice was firm and unyielding.
I chased after him. "Darian, if I know I can save him but don't, and he dies, I'll feel guilty for the rest of my life."
"I'll send people to search for Eliza. That's all we can do right now."
"What if you can't find her?"
Darian said coldly, "If I can't find her, his fate, whether life or death, is his own."
