Chapter 698 Conclusive Evidence
Imogen finished speaking and was about to start searching, but Cecily stopped her. "To be fair, let's have someone else do the search."
"I can't search for my own ring?" Imogen retorted.
"You make it sound like you're sure the ring is on Rowan."
Imogen was, of course, certain. She had placed it there herself and knew exactly which pocket it was in.
"Alright, stop arguing," Giselle interjected. She just wanted Cecily to be embarrassed in front of everyone; who found the ring didn't matter. There was no need to argue over this.
"Let's have others do the search. I'll accept being searched too, and so should you, Cecilia. Since Cecily suspects all of us, let's clear our names," Giselle added.
"Fine," Imogen agreed.
They found four other people present to conduct the search in front of everyone.
Cecily squatted down to look at Rowan and Griffin. "Since someone insists on making a fuss, let's cooperate. Mommy won't let you suffer."
"Okay," Griffin said excitedly with a grin.
Rowan nodded as well.
Two people came forward, spoke to Cecily, and began searching the pockets of Rowan and Griffin's clothes.
They searched carefully, clearly not wanting to offend Cecily.
As one of them reached into Rowan's pocket, Giselle, Imogen, and Cecilia's eyes lit up.
The ring was in that pocket.
The person searching Rowan's pocket turned pale.
Cecily noticed the growing excitement on the faces of the three who were staring at Rowan.
The person slowly withdrew their hand from Rowan's pocket, revealing a dazzling diamond ring.
The moment the ring was pulled from Rowan's pocket, the three couldn't hide their delight.
Imogen walked over and snatched the ring. "This is my ring. You took it. What do you have to say for yourselves?"
"The ring was really found?" People around them looked up.
"It was really found. Ms. Bennett's son actually stole and hid the ring!"
"How could the Bennett family's child do something so disgraceful? It's shocking."
"Didn't Miss Fairfax just say? Ms. Bennett didn't live well before returning to the Bennett family, so it's normal for her child to develop such bad habits. He probably hasn't changed yet."
"Oh my, it's so embarrassing. She just stopped us from searching, probably because she knew her son had stolen the ring."
"Exactly. She was so confident that her son wouldn't do such a thing, and now he's been caught. It's really embarrassing."
The surrounding chatter was incessant. In high society, such an incident was definitely a scandal.
But when everyone looked at the four of them, they found their expressions surprisingly calm, as if the ring hadn't been found on them.
"With all the evidence, how can they stay so calm?"
"I was just defending them, saying the Bennett family wouldn't do something so disgraceful. This is really unexpected."
"It shows how important early education is. Bad habits can't be changed even in a good family."
Imogen held the ring and stared at Cecily. "Cecily, what do you have to say now? My ring was found in Rowan's pocket."
Giselle glared at the person who wanted to search her. "The ring has been found. There's no need to search me."
She then walked up to Cecily, barely able to contain her smile. "Cecily, what's going on? Didn't you say the ring couldn't be with your child? But now everyone has seen it was found on Rowan. This is awkward, isn't it? What do you have to say?"
Cecilia chuckled. "This was a small matter. When Imogen asked earlier, you should have just handed over the ring. It wouldn't have been so embarrassing."
Imogen rolled her eyes. "Exactly. You made it so embarrassing. How did you educate your child? He took my ring and wouldn't admit it. Did you know all along and stop us from searching? Ms. Bennett, can't you afford a ring? Why steal?"
With the ring found, the three were clearly more confident.
Giselle stood there quietly watching Cecily, unable to suppress her smile. She thought, 'Cecily, weren't you acting all high and mighty? Go on, keep it up. Thinking you can take me on is hilarious!'
Cecily, weren't you so arrogant? Keep it up.
Fighting with her, how laughable.
"Is this your ring?" Cecily asked calmly as the three were gloating.
Imogen raised her chin without hesitation. "Of course, it's my ring. If it's not mine, is it yours?"
"This is mine. I just didn't have pockets in my skirt, so I put the ring in Rowan's pocket. How did it become yours?"
Imogen burst out laughing. "Everyone, listen to how ridiculous she sounds! I just said her son took my ring, and it was found in his pocket. Now she says it's hers! Ms. Bennett, do you think we're all fools?"
"Take a closer look at the ring," Cecily coldly reminded her.
Imogen glanced at it and was even more certain. "This is my ring. I'm 100% sure."
Cecilia also took a look. "This is Imogen's ring. She wears it often. We see it all the time. I don't even need Imogen to confirm it. I can tell at a glance it's hers. How did it become yours?"
Giselle's lips curled into a mocking smile.
She thought Cecily was capable, but it turned out she would spout nonsense when cornered.
"Cecily, it's normal for children to make mistakes. Stop arguing. You should apologize to Imogen for your child. Let's move on. No one will pursue it further. But if you keep saying the ring is yours, you look ridiculous," Giselle said.
Apologizing would mean admitting Rowan really stole something.
Cecily's expression was cold, and she didn't speak immediately.
Seeing Cecily's silence, Giselle wouldn't let her off. "Cecily, everyone is watching. If you don't speak, this will get worse. Apologize quickly, and let's move on."
