Chapter 272 Causing a Scene at The Bennett Banquet

Cecily stood quietly aside, listening, her peripheral vision catching an uncomfortable gaze from Dylan. His eyes, with a hint of lewdness, roamed over her, staring directly at her.

Cecily furrowed her brows. Such a gaze made her uncomfortable and was impolite.

Darian paid no more attention to them, taking Cecily's hand and turning to leave. Cecily sighed, "Aren't you worried Owen will give you trouble again because of the conflict with them?"

"It's just a matter of time, and it's not just for your sake."

Darian was about to lead Cecily back to the room when she stopped at the doorway.

Darian turned to look at her. "What's wrong?"

Cecily pursed her lips. "I won't go in. I'll go to my own room. You should rest early."

Darian reached out and pulled her back.

Cecily lowered her head, a warning in her eyes. "Let me tell you, just because we're in your house doesn't mean you can do whatever you want."

Darian bent down, his forehead against hers, and chuckled softly. "Are you that afraid of me?"

Cecily's heart skipped a beat, and she pushed him away with force.

Darian didn't expect her to be so strong. She pushed him, and his back hit the door frame with a dull sound.

Cecily's eyes trembled.

Darian raised his hand and pressed her shoulder. "You're strong."

Cecily bit her lip. "I'm sorry. I'm going back to sleep."

After speaking, Cecily ran off as if escaping.

Darian watched her rush away, his dark eyes filled with tenderness and love.

It didn't matter. Cecily had already returned home.

Time was on his side.

Cecily couldn't sleep that night. Every time she closed her eyes, Darian's handsome face loomed close.

She pulled the blanket over her head, but when she fell asleep, she dreamed of Darian's deep gaze.

In the study, Darian sat in an office chair, his dark eyes staring deeply at something, listening to Larkin's report.

"Start with Raphael's personal life and find out the true identity of this woman who's had plastic surgery," Darian ordered. "And keep an eye on the Bennett family. Ensure that Cecily's not harmed."

Darian's voice was heavy, with a menacing tone.

Larkin lowered his gaze and nodded. "Yes, Boss. By the way, do we need to keep an eye on Cameron's family as well?"

Cameron's family was not exactly well-behaved either.

Now thatOwen had brought them back, they probably thought they had a chance to compete with Darian for the inheritance.

No one knew what they might do.

"Not for now. They won't cause much trouble. Let's deal with the Bennett family first," said Darian.

"Understood."

Larkin understood that Darian was prioritizing Cecily's affairs.

The next morning.

Cecily woke up from her sleep and opened her eyes to look around. She was slightly stunned for a moment before snapping back to reality.

She got up and quickly went into the bathroom to freshen up, then came out dressed.

Just as she pushed open the door of the room, Darian happened to walk to the doorway and stopped, waiting for her. "Awake, huh?"

Cecily nodded and walked up to him.

Darian asked, "How did you sleep?"

"Not bad."

A hint of a smile flashed across Darian's handsome face. "Too bad I can't say the same."

"Why?" Cecily turned to look at him. "Did you have another sleepless night? That shouldn't be the case. I gave you medication, and if you take it as prescribed, you shouldn't have trouble sleeping."

"It's not because of that," Darian sighed. "My wife is just next door, yet I can't hold her or kiss her. It is normal to have trouble sleeping."

Cecily chuckled. "Stop it. I'm your ex-wife, remember?"

"We will remarry sooner or later," Darian said, following behind her at a leisurely pace.

Cecily pursed her lips and didn't say anything more. The servants had prepared a delicate breakfast.Owen was not present, and Cameron's family was already having their meal.

They had been forced by Darian to the backyard last night, and they were clearly unhappy about it. They sought Owen's intervention, but he didn't say much, which only fueled their anger.

After breakfast, the two children were sent off to school, and Darian and Cecily went to their respective offices.

Darian wanted to give Cecily a ride, but she refused.

Just as Cecily arrived at the entrance of her company, several cars forcefully blocked her way.

Cecily looked at the situation in front of her, feeling a bit bewildered.

Two middle-aged men got out of the car and stood in front of Cecily. They looked at her and one of them asked, "Are you Mrs.Watson?"

Cecily remained cautious and nodded. "Yes, and who are you?"

The slightly older and more imposing-looking man spoke first, "I might be your uncle!"

The other man added, "I might be your uncle too!"

Cecily looked at the two men who suddenly appeared. Her mind raced, and with a hint of hesitation, she asked, "From the Bennett family?"

Evan nodded. "Exactly. Can we talk?"

Cecily hesitated for a moment and then nodded.

In a nearby cafe.

Cecily looked at the two middle-aged men in front of her, and they were scrutinizing her face as if trying to figure something out from it.

"Is this face real?" Caleb, who claimed to be her uncle, asked.

Cecily forced a bitter smile. "Of course."

Caleb nodded. "This face is much more real than that plastic surgery freak."

Plastic surgery freak?

Evan glanced at Caleb, signaling him to be quiet, and then looked at Cecily, getting straight to the point. "To be honest, we don't believe that there are two identical faces in this world, let alone the coincidence of encountering one. But the Bennett family is cautious, and we cannot overlook any doubts. We came to find you today because, firstly, my brother and I are more inclined to believe that you are the real one, and secondly, we would like to invite you to the Bennett family's banquet in two days."

Cecily looked at the invitation letter handed to her and then at Evan. "Me?"

"Yes."

Cecily chuckled. "If I'm not mistaken, the Bennett family will announce at this banquet that they have found their young lady. Would it be appropriate for me to go?"

After all, the other person was more trusted by them. If she went, there would be two identical young ladies from the Bennett family, which would just stir up chaos and disrupt the order of the banquet.

Evan looked at Cecily, his smile mysterious. "It's difficult to determine the authenticity of both her and you. If she has the right to be there, why don't you?"
