Chapter 318 Learning that Vincent's Poisoning was Done by Eliza
"No, if you don't drink, I won't drink either."
Darian didn't drink, and naturally, no one dared to persuade him to. After thinking for a moment, Cecily said, "How about we have dinner first and then go?"
Darian smiled, "Anything you say." After speaking, he said into his phone, "You guys go ahead, we'll join you later."
"All right."
Cecily knew that The Silver Fox Tavern was the favorite bar of the wealthy young masters in Silver Frost Capital, where they liked to spend lavishly. She didn't frequent such places, only having gone a few times and always with Aurelie.
After speaking, Cecily was about to walk into the kitchen, and Darian followed her in large strides, "Let me help you."
"You?" Cecily looked Darian up and down and quickly pushed him out, "No way, you're already dressed so handsomely. Don't get food smells on you and have to change again."
"Rare to hear you compliment me." Darian smiled.
Cecily thought Darian's focus was always a bit odd. "You should go out."
"I don't mind changing again."
Cecily chuckled, "What can you do?"
"What do you need me to do?"
Cecily glanced around and pointed to the vegetables beside her, "If you're willing, you can wash those vegetables."
Darian unbuttoned his exquisite cuffs rolled up his sleeves, revealing a strong forearm. It was clear he had never done such work before; his movements were very clumsy.
"Tonight, a friend of mine just got out of prison. Hayden and a few other friends are celebrating for him."
Cecily's hands paused for a moment, then she resumed naturally, "What did he do to end up in prison?"
Darian's long fingers meticulously washed the vegetables and said, "He accidentally killed someone for a woman."
Cecily turned to look at Darian, feeling a bit surprised by his words. It shouldn't be the person she was thinking of, right?
Cecily made a few dishes that Rowan and Griffin liked, and after eating with Vincent, she went upstairs to change clothes. When she came down, Darian was sitting in the living room waiting for her. Darian skillfully wrapped his arm around Cecily's waist, "Let's go."
Cecily nodded, "Okay."
In the car, Cecily looked out the window idly. Perhaps it was Darian's words before dinner that gave her a sense of clarity. She suddenly turned to Darian, "Is the friend you mentioned named Nathaniel?"
Darian nodded, "Do you know him?"
Cecily's eyebrows raised slightly. It really was him! No wonder Aurelie had been acting strange all day and left early. So, he was out.
"I should know him."
Darian looked a bit surprised.
Cecily sighed, "You said he accidentally killed someone for a woman. That woman is Aurelie."
Darian's deep eyes showed more surprise, "Who told you that?"
"Isn't it true?"
Darian paused slightly, "Does your friend think so, too?"
Cecily nodded, her eyes filled with confusion.
Darian thought for a moment and said, "She might have misunderstood something."
Just then, they arrived at their destination, and the car stopped. Cecily followed up with, "Do you mean he didn't do it for Aurelie?"
"Yes."
Cecily frowned.
After getting out of the car, Darian reached out to hold Cecily's hand, his tone calm but with an added note, "But I only heard bits and pieces from them. I don't know the details. You don't need to tell your friend. It might cause unnecessary misunderstandings."
Darian was never one to gossip or meddle in others' affairs.
Cecily's expression was a bit complicated. Before entering the private room, Cecily thought about calling Aurelie. "You go in first. I want to make a call."
"I'll stay with you."
"No need. Everyone is already waiting for you. Don't keep them waiting because of me. Vincent is with me. I won't be in danger."
Darian glanced at Vincent behind Cecily. With him by her side, he felt more at ease. "All right."
Cecily walked to the side with her phone and dialed Aurelie's number while Vincent stood at a distance. The phone rang over ten times before it was answered. Cecily hung up and called again, and it was picked up this time. Aurelie's muffled voice came through, "Hello, Cecily."
"Nathaniel is out, did you know?"
Aurelie was silent for a few seconds. Cecily knew that Aurelie had felt guilty for ten years because of what happened back then. During those ten years, while Nathaniel was in prison, Aurelie's heart was also trapped in a cage, and she hadn't been truly happy for a single day.
"I know. How did you find out? Did you see him?" Aurelie asked urgently.
Cecily glanced at the closed double doors and sighed, "Darian mentioned it. I guessed it was him. They're in a private room at The Silver Fox Tavern."
"Okay, I got it."
"Aurelie." Cecily wanted to say something but stopped herself, "Never mind."
Since Darian wasn't sure, Cecily decided not to bring it up. After hanging up, Cecily was about to head to the private room. A drunken man approached with a woman on his left arm and bumped into Cecily. Cecily stepped aside, not intending to pursue it, and walked away.
"Isn't this Darian's wife? What a coincidence."
Cecily turned to look at the man upon hearing his voice. She had seen him at the Fitzgerald family estate before; he was Darian's uncle's son, Victor. Cecily didn't have a good impression of Darian's uncle and his family, knowing they didn't get along with Darian. So, she didn't plan to stay long. Just nodded slightly and was about to leave.
But Victor didn't let it go, reaching out to grab Cecily, "Don't go, wait, you and Darian haven't remarried yet, right? Can I be your friend?"
Cecily frowned, seeing him getting closer. She shook off his hand, "Sorry, I don't know you well."
"Don't know me well?" Victor laughed lewdly, and the woman beside him laughed too. His lecherous eyes stared at Cecily, making her uncomfortable just like last time. "We can get to know each other better. Come, have a few drinks with me."
Victor reached out to grab Cecily's waist. He had found her attractive at the Fitzgerald family estate but didn't dare do anything with Darian around. Now, with Cecily alone, he became bolder. Cecily deftly avoided him, her eyes turning cold, "Get lost."
Victor, feeling humiliated, sneered, "Don't pretend to be virtuous. You came to a place like this to drink with men, didn't you? Why can you drink with others but not with me?" As he spoke, he reached out to grab Cecily again.
Cecily's eyes flashed coldly, and the next second, the hand reaching for her was firmly grasped by Vincent, his movements swift and decisive. Victor screamed in pain. Vincent's eyes were sharp and terrifying, "What do you want to drink? I'll drink with you."
"Get lost! If you meddle, you're asking for death! Do you know who I am?"
Vincent smirked evilly, "Oh? Are you famous? Tell me, see if you can scare me."
"Damn it!"
Vincent tightened his grip, and Victor's face turned pale with pain. "Stop! Let go of me."
"Apologize to my sister."
"Who do you think you are?"
Vincent repeated, "Apologies to my sister!"
Seeing he was serious, Victor's arrogance vanished, and under the intense pain, he had to yield, "Sorry, I won't dare again."
"Really?"
"Really!"
Vincent released his hand and kicked him to the ground. Victor rolled on the ground, glaring at Vincent angrily, "I apologized. Why did you kick me!"
"Consider it a gift. Are you happy?"
"You wait and see." Victor glared at them and ran off, ignoring the pain.
Cecily raised an eyebrow, looking at Vincent with praise, "Nice moves."
Receiving the compliment, Vincent's expression turned from gloomy to happy, like a child receiving candy. Cecily was about to say something when her expression suddenly changed, "Vincent!"
Vincent blinked, feeling something warm on his lips. The next second, dizziness hit him, and he stumbled, his tall body falling straight down.
"Vincent!" Cecily was shocked, rushing forward to catch him, preventing him from hitting the ground. But Vincent was tall, and Cecily didn't have the strength to hold him up. They both fell to the ground. Cecily frowned, kneeling, holding his shoulders, "Vincent?"
Vincent shook his head in pain but did not want Cecily to worry. "Sister, I'm fine."
Cecily took out a pack of wet wipes from her bag and pressed it to his bleeding nose, "You don't look fine. If you still call me sister, tell me what's wrong. I checked your health last time, and you seemed fine, no illness. Don't stay by my side if you don't tell the truth."
Vincent coughed, "Poisoned."
"Poisoned?" Cecily immediately understood, "Was it Eliza, the one who had plastic surgery to look like me?"
Cecily knew Eliza was extremely.
Skilled with poisons. She had been poisoned by her before, and if Blaise hadn't found someone to save her, she would have died. So, the poison Vincent had must be extremely dangerous.
