Chapter 358 A Surprise Prepared for Her

"Miss Watson?"

The nausea quickly subsided, and Cecily shook her head. "No need for the family doctor. I might just have an upset stomach. You can leave now."

"Wait." Cecily called the servant back.

She originally wanted to ask the maid to buy a pregnancy test for her, but then thought better of it. Such an errand would surely alert everyone in the household. Whether or not she was pregnant, she needed to prepare herself first.

Regardless of whether she was pregnant or not, she needed to be mentally prepared.

"Never mind, you can go."

Taking a deep breath, Cecily gently caressed her abdomen. If she were indeed pregnant, this child might not survive. Although she hadn't taken any oral medication, the external medications she used could still have an impact.

Cecily's mood sank.

When Darian returned, it was already very late. He didn't go to the bedroom but instead went to the study next door. Picking up his phone, he called Blaise. "It's me, Darian."

"You've figured it out?" Blaise wasn't surprised to receive Darian's call and got straight to the point. "I heard Eliza's eyes are ruined."

"You're well-informed."

Blaise toyed with a cold, gleaming dart in his hand. "What are you planning to do now? How about giving Cecily your eyes as compensation?"

"I should indeed use mine to compensate her."

Darian agreed without hesitation, which even made the usually composed Blaise pause for a moment. "What? Do you realize you've committed too many sins and plan to repay her this way?"

"Even this won't be enough to repay." He curled his fingers and picked up a photo frame on the desk. The woman in the photo was smiling brightly in a wedding dress, looking as beautiful as a fairy. Standing beside her, he looked indifferent and full of disdain, completely out of place with her.

This photo was taken eight years ago before their wedding. She had happily dressed up for a long time, but he was impatient and unwilling to take more photos, so there was only this one.

It was also the only photo of them together in their eight years of marriage.

His thumb caressed her face in the photo, his gaze lingering on her bright eyes. It was such a pity that these beautiful eyes couldn't see anymore.

He had promised her that she would regain her sight and he couldn't break that promise.

"You know it too." Blaise sneered. He didn't pity Darian; he thought he deserved it.

A pair of corneas was nothing; it couldn't even make up for that bowl of abortion medicine.

If he hadn't appeared that night, Cecily and her child would have died. Losing a pair of corneas was nothing. In his opinion, Darian should be beaten to a pulp, stripped, and thrown outside to experience the despair of being on the brink of death and utterly helpless.

"Did you call to ask for my help?"

"I think you are the one who least wants the surgery to go wrong."

Darian was referring to interference, such as from Owen.

He hadn't told anyone about this, but secrets have a way of getting out. If Owen found out, he would definitely try to stop it.

On the other end of the line, Blaise threw the dart in his hand. "Got it."

"Thanks." Darian hung up the phone and sat in the chair for a long time before getting up to return to the bedroom.

As soon as he opened the door, the person on the bed stirred.

"Darian."

Darian was a bit surprised and reached to turn on the light but paused, deciding he should start getting used to the dark.

Clearly, this world of complete darkness was not pleasant.

"You're not asleep yet?"

"I slept during the day, so I sleep lightly at night. What were you doing? Why are you back so late?" Cecily asked tentatively.

Darian walked over to her. "I was handling some things and lost track of time."

Darian was not adept at deceiving her, but Cecily pretended to believe him. "I see."

"The servants said you weren't feeling well. Is your wound hurting again?"

Cecily shook her head, not planning to tell Darian just yet. "No, it's just my stomach feeling a bit off. It's nothing serious. It's late; you should wash up and get some sleep."

"Alright."

Cecily lay down and pulled up the covers. Darian looked at her, gently tucking her in before heading to the bathroom.

When he came out, she seemed to be asleep. Darian carefully lay down beside her, pulling her into his arms. He gazed at her beautiful face, as if he could never get enough of looking at her.

The next morning, Darian went to Rowan and Griffin's room.

"Good morning, Daddy."

"Come here, I need to discuss something with you." Darian beckoned them over.

Seeing Darian's serious expression, Rowan and Griffin obediently sat beside him.

Rowan blinked and asked, "What's the matter, Daddy?"

"Do me a favor. In a few days, I have to go on a business trip and will be away for a while. Can you take care of Mommy while I'm gone?"

"Daddy, will you be gone for a long time?"

Darian nodded, his tone calm. "Yes. Your mommy's eyes will be better soon. I've prepared a surprise for her in the backyard. When her eyes are better, will you take her to see it?"

Rowan and Griffin's eyes lit up at the news of Cecily's recovery. Griffin jumped up excitedly. "Yay! Mommy's eyes will be better. She'll be able to see us again. Rowan, did you hear? Mommy's eyes will be better."

Rowan was also happy but found it a bit strange. "If it's a surprise, why won't you take Mommy to see it yourself, Daddy?"

Darian's expression remained calm, showing no sign of anything unusual. "I would love to be by her side, but I have work that requires me to leave."

"That's a pity."

Darian reached out and patted their heads. "This is our secret, so you can't tell Mommy for now."

Griffin nodded vigorously. "Of course, if it's a surprise, we can't tell Mommy. Don't worry, we won't say a word."

They were immersed in the joy of Cecily's impending recovery and nodded in agreement.

After breakfast, Darian had to leave.

Cecily called Aurelie, who immediately rushed over with an early pregnancy test.

"Cecily, your eyes?" Aurelie was stunned.

Cecily hadn't told Aurelie about her blindness.

"It's fine. I can't see for now, but I'll get better." Cecily knew the condition of her eyes but didn't tell Aurelie to avoid her breaking down and crying.

"But you..." Aurelie was still worried.

"Did you buy what I asked for?"

"I did. Here you go." Aurelie handed the pregnancy test to Cecily, her face full of concern. "Cecily, what will you do if you really are pregnant? Have you told Darian?"

"I haven't said anything because I'm not sure yet."

Cecily stood up, and Aurelie helped her to the bathroom. "Do you need my help?"

"No, I can manage on my own."

"Alright, I'll be outside. Call me if you need anything."

"Okay."

Cecily walked into the bathroom. Aurelie clasped her hands tightly, pacing nervously outside the door, looking even more anxious than Cecily.
