Chapter 270 The Bennett Holds a Banquet, Anticipating a Good Show.
Cecily had been out of touch with her phone these days, so she didn't know what was going on online, let alone that Ophelia had been pressured into repeatedly confessing her misdeeds on camera.
Now the online buzz about "Cecily maliciously harming Mrs. Fitzgerald" had died down.
Instead, Ophelia was the one being criticized to the point of mental breakdown, much to Cecily's surprise.
At the Bennett family.
Everyone already knew about the heiress's return without Desmond and the others having to say a word, and they gathered in the hall of the Bennett family.
On the leather chairs on both sides, everyone had their own position according to their seniority and status.
The Bennett family had always been strict about hierarchy, and no one dared to be the slightest bit presumptuous.
Quiet conversations filled the air until the person seated at the highest place on the left opened the discussion. "You've all heard about my niece's return and must have come for that reason, am I right?"
"Yes, I heard that the main residence was quite lively last night. Even from our quarters, we could hear it loud and clear. It seems like there are two identical individuals, causing such a commotion. I wonder if the one left now is real or fake," Caleb, the youngest son of Mr. Bennett Sr., said.
The man sitting on the left side opened his sharp eyes and sneered, "I heard it's hard to distinguish between the real and the fake."
Caleb picked up the coffee cup next to him and took a sip, smiling. "If they really brought back a fake one, it would be ridiculous. Do they really want to let a woman take the position of the head of the family? Brother, if it weren't for the rules set by Mr. Bennett Sr. during his lifetime, the head of the Bennett family should be you."
Evan smiled. "We are all from the branches now, and our words don't carry as much weight as those old folks like Desmond. They are stubborn. What can we do?"
Caleb waved his hand. "If that girl is the real one, then it's fine. But what if she's fake?"
"My authenticity will be judged by the three elders. If anyone has any objections, you can say it to my face." A clear and loud voice came from the staircase.
Everyone looked towards the woman coming down and saw Eliza in a red coat, walking confidently with her hands in her pockets.
Behind her were the three elders.
Eliza walked up to the front without haste, raising her chin and scanning the people present. "It seems that my uncles have strong opinions about my identity, don't you?"
Eliza looked at them. Desmond had already explained to her. The man sitting on the left was Evan, and the other one, who just spoke the most aggressively, was Caleb. They were all her uncles, and the rest were some cousins.
Eliza knew that Evan and Caleb were probably the most difficult to deal with in this group, and they also had the most authority.
She knew that taking over the Bennett family would be extremely challenging, not only because of Cecily but also because of these resentful relatives.
But no matter, she was ready for the long game with them.
Caleb looked at Eliza's face and sneered, "You are Cecily, my sister's biological daughter?"
"That's right."
Caleb, as if hearing a funny joke, snorted. "Indeed. Even after plastic surgery, no matter how similar, it always looks off. I wonder if your nose might just go crooked if pressed?"
Facing the mockery, Eliza responded with a light laugh, "Uncle Caleb, you worry too much. With everyone here today, I consider it a formal introduction. After discussing with the three elders, we will host a banquet at the Bennett family in three days, inviting the prominent families and declaring my identity. I hope all the elders can attend."
"Hmph, whether it's true or not remains to be seen, right? What's there to announce? It's as if you're claiming the headship of the family." Caleb mocked Eliza while sipping his coffee.
"If you guys have doubts about my identity, feel free to verify it. As for the position of the head of the family that you mentioned, you don't need to worry about it. As my mother's only daughter, it's only a matter of time before it becomes mine."
As Eliza spoke, Evan, sitting at the forefront, chuckled. "The Bennett family has always respected the strong. Now you claim that the position of the head of the family is already in your pocket. Haha, you're getting ahead of yourself."
"Yes, the strong are respected. It seems you two strong men couldn't best my mother back then, which certainly paints you as the weaker ones."
Both Evan and Caleb's eyes turned cold as they glared at the woman in front of them.
Desmond looked at the woman standing beside him, with her chin held high and an air of superiority, and frowned.
She was too sharp, easily inviting discontent.
Eliza lowered her gaze and smiled. "Alright, I've made my introductions. Let's leave it at that for today. Please don't be absent from the banquet in three days."
After speaking, Eliza raised her chin and strode upstairs.
"Has she no manners?" Caleb, visibly agitated, watched her leave. "Mr.Bradshaw, is this the person you brought back?"
Desmond furrowed his brow. He didn't expect "Cecily" to be so arrogant. After all, everyone present was her elder, and it was indeed impolite for her to leave directly like that.
Her confident stride almost seemed like a display of arrogance.
"Caleb, let's go," Evan called out to him.
With a swing of his arm, Caleb turned to follow Evan out. "Evan, she's too arrogant. It's like she's trying to intimidate us elders."
Evan smirked. "What about the other Cecily from last night?"
"Returned to Stellaris Bay," Caleb replied, annoyed.
"Send her an invitation to the banquet in three days."
Caleb paused. "Evan, are you looking to turn the banquet into chaos?"
At that time, there would be two Cecilys at the banquet!
Evan patted Caleb's shoulder and smiled. "If she dares to challenge us, we naturally have to retaliate. Besides, she may not be the real one, and the other may not be the fake one. Even for the sake of the Bennett family, we must carefully discern, right?"
Understanding dawned on Caleb. "I got it, Evan. I'll send someone right away."
