Chapter 313 Concealment, She Stopped Asking
"Did you go to kill her last night?" Darian furrowed his brows, immediately understanding, "Did she tell you?"
“What? Are you denying it? Are you going to claim that you didn't send someone to harm her last night? The knife wound on her back was caused by your associates. If it had been any deeper, she would have been in serious danger last night.”
Darian coldly smiled, his handsome face full of sarcasm. "What are you talking about? I don't know how she got injured."
"Who else could it be besides you?" Desmond at this moment clearly believed what his eyes saw, not Darian's words.
"Did she say we sent someone to kill her?"
"Yes."
Darian's expression grew more sarcastic. "Having someone who spreads lies like this must be quite a burden," he remarked.
Desmond furrowed his brow in response.
After Darian's words, he turned and made his way towards the door.
Ophelia was still huddled in the corner, and Darian noticed her, his gaze sweeping over her.
Fearful that Darian would confine her once more, Ophelia trembled and pleaded as she crawled and knelt before him. "Darian, please don't imprison me. I promise I haven't done anything wrong this time. I only wanted to inform you about this issue. I've said all that I needed to say tonight. Please, spare me.”
Darian glanced at Ophelia and simply said, "Fine."
Ophelia felt as if she had been granted a reprieve and quickly got up and ran out.
Desmond was still contemplating Darian's words when Larkin walked past him and couldn't resist commenting, "As the head of the Bennett Family, I feel compelled to add a few more thoughts. If we had dispatched someone to eliminate her last night, she wouldn't have seen the light of day this morning. Furthermore, can a woman evade our Fitzgerald Family's grasp and only sustain such a minor injury? Consider that carefully.”
After Larkin finished speaking, without waiting for Desmond's response, he quickly caught up with Darian, leaving Desmond standing there to ponder the issue.
In the car, Larkin asked, "Boss, heading back to the hotel?"
"Yes."
Upon receiving the response, Larkin immediately started the car.
As the car smoothly drove, Larkin couldn't help but ask Darian, " Boss, why didn't you show the surveillance footage inside the house to the Bennett family members? Ophelia had already confirmed that it was Eliza who spoke those words to her."
Darian furrowed his brow slightly and said, "It's useless, a waste of words."
Eliza could easily deny everything.
Additionally, the situation involved Cecily's mother and his father, and he preferred not to disclose the details until it was resolved.
Unable to sleep, Cecily ventured into the brightly lit living room, where she settled on the sofa, hugging her knees.
When Darian entered, he saw her sitting there, her perfectly vivid face showing a hint of confusion.
Upon hearing the movement, she looked up and saw him, "You're back."
Darian's gaze softened unconsciously, "Aren't you sleeping?"
"I can't sleep. I'll go back to bed later."
Darian approached her, took a seat beside her, and his hand accidentally brushed against her cold feet. Sensing the chill, he gently grasped her feet. Cecily flinched.
Darian's gaze fell on Cecily's attire, a thin long-sleeved pajama set. Although the room was temperature-controlled, her hands and feet were still cold.
Darian frowned. "Your feet are cold. Why don't you sit on the bed?"
Cecily reached out her hand to him.
Darian smiled, hugged her, lifted her up horizontally, and carried her to the bedroom.
As Cecily rested against Darian's chest, she caught a faint whiff of blood on him and remarked, "You smell like blood."
Darian's brow twitched slightly as he responded, "You must be mistaken.”
"You can't deceive me. Don't forget what I do. I work as a perfumer, so I'm constantly surrounded by scents, which has made me more sensitive to smells than the average person. You can't hide from my nose."
Cecily was placed on the bed. She pursed her lips. "You tied up Eliza and Ophelia."
Darian raised an eyebrow. Seeing that she knew, he no longer concealed it. "How did you know?”
"Vincent told me so."
Cecily didn't want to intrude, but Vincent observed Darian leaving and decided to keep an eye on him for Cecily's sake. He witnessed Darian's men escorting Eliza and Ophelia away, then promptly returned to inform Cecily.
Darian pulled the blanket over Cecily, saying, "Yes, I had them restrained. There are some issues that need my attention.”
Cecily nodded, her gaze fixed on Darian for a moment. "Okay, understood."
"Aren't you going to ask why I tied them up?"
"If you want to tell me, you will. If you don't, there's no point in me asking," Cecily said calmly.
Darian gazed at Cecily, softly caressed her pale cheek. "I sought answers from the events of last night and aimed to address the issue of your identity. Regrettably, things didn't unfold as intended." Cecily blinked, comprehending his message.
Recognizing that he still withheld something, she chose not to press for further information.
"No rush," she spoke slowly, "What's mine will always be mine, and no one can take it away."
Darian smirked. "You're right."
"I'll be heading back to Silver Frost Capital tomorrow and need to get up early. I'll go to sleep now." Cecily pulled the blanket and lay down.
Darian's eyes held a hint of amusement. "Alright, I'll take a shower first. You go ahead and sleep."
"Okay."
Darian leaned in, planting a gentle kiss on her forehead before observing her as she closed her eyes. He then rose and made his way into the bathroom.
Cecily, upon hearing the bathroom door shut, opened her eyes, a shadow briefly crossing over them.
Things were probably as she had expected. It involved her mother, so Darian had been keeping it from her.
In the hospital.
Eliza was so weakened that Desmond arranged for her to be taken to the hospital. Her back wound was tended to once more, and Eliza lay on the bed, almost devoid of energy, her face pallid.
Desmond stood by her side, letting out a heavy sigh.
Eliza had been crying all along, the white pillowcase soaked with tears.
"Desmond, look at me. Are you still going to send me away from Bennett's Family? If I leave Bennett's Family, they will kill me at anytime."
