Chapter 238 Darian Comes to Make Peace
Cecily sighed. His voice was clear at the door, not heavy, but rather carried a hint of tenderness. It was pleasant and enticing like a mischievous uncle coaxing a little girl to open the door.
Cecily walked to the door and stared at the doorknob but never grasped it.
In fact, on her way back, she carefully thought about it. Before she went to Fitzgerald's Family, Darian called her. She was only at Fitzgerald's Family for about twenty or thirty minutes, which wasn't enough time for Darian to engage in any activities.
She figured it out on her way back.
Even though she had figured it out, Cecily's mood didn't improve because she realized that she might not have truly let go of this man who had hurt her deeply.
When she saw the scene in the room, her heart was in chaos, and she started to care.
But she was stubborn. She wouldn't let Ophelia see her sad or hurt expression on her face. Instead, she put on a carefree appearance.
Darian stood at the door. He could hear Cecily approaching the door through the phone or directly hearing the voice. They were only separated by a door. But he had been waiting for her to open the door for a while.
After a minute, Cecily said, "Darian, I'm tired and want to rest. You should go back."
Feeling a bit frustrated, Cecily felt exhausted.
There was a few seconds of silence on Darian's end, and Cecily heard his faint sigh, "All right, we'll talk about it tomorrow."
"Okay."
Cecily hung up the phone.
Darian looked deeply at the door, turned around and went downstairs, but he didn't leave immediately.
At least he was still downstairs when Aurelie came to find Cecily.
Aurelie knew the password to Cecily's house and entered directly. Seeing Cecily sitting on the couch, hugging her knees, Aurelie changed her shoes and walked in. "I saw Darian downstairs."
Cecily looked at Aurelie as she approached, not surprised since Cecily had sent her a message saying she was coming over.
‘He didn't leave?’ Cecily snapped back from her thoughts.
"Do you know where he is?" Aurelie sat down next to Cecily. "Did you two have a fight?"
"Cash," Cecily said, looking at Aurelie.
Aurelie glanced back at Cecily.
With just one glance, they understood each other so well. They couldn't hide any emotions from each other's eyes.
Aurelie walked over and handed Cecily a coat, saying, "Let's go."
The two of them went up to the rooftop. Cecily asked what they were doing, and Aurelie said they needed some time to cool down.
They both lit cigarettes, with Aurelie taking a deep drag.
Cecily glanced at her, knowing Aurelie had quit smoking for a long time. Her mood tonight seemed worse than hers.
"Why are you upset?" the two of them asked in unison, almost at the same time.
Aurelie chuckled and exhaled smoke. "You go first."
Cecily leaned her head against the side and began to tell Aurelie about what happened tonight.
"If nothing really happened, why are you upset?"
Cecily turned her face away, speaking in a low, melancholic voice, "I feel like I have no backbone." She had thought she had already moved on, but today she realized that she hadn't. If she had truly moved on, she would have brushed off such a small matter and wouldn't have cared at all.
Aurelie put her arm around Cecily's shoulder and smiled gently, saying, "Don't be sad. It doesn't matter if he has any integrity or not. When you truly love someone, it's not easy to let go. Besides, he has really changed. To be honest, he's not a saint either. He can be influenced by certain things that affect his judgment. Who hasn't done some foolish things when they were young?"
The words paused, and Aurelie, who had just wanted to give Cecily some wise advice, suddenly stopped and turned her face away. She took a deep breath and skillfully flicked the cigarette ash with her fingers. She chuckled to herself and muttered, "Who hasn't done some foolish things when they were young."
Cecily looked at her and hesitated for a moment before asking, "Are you thinking about him?"
After a long time passed, Aurelie swallowed her emotions and didn't look Cecily in the eyes. "Cecily, he's coming out soon. I'll spend the rest of my life making it up to him. Is that enough?"
Cecily didn't say anything.
Aurelie smoked and chuckled bitterly to herself, "It's probably not enough."
Cecily couldn't answer that question.
He did it voluntarily, but he did it for her. Ten years, how many people have ten years in their lifetime? And it happened to be the best ten years of a person's life.
It was a cold night, and the two of them talked a lot until their hands and feet were freezing. Then, they calmed down and went back inside.
It was already four in the morning when Aurelie fell asleep in her room. Cecily stood on the balcony, looking down at the street below. Darian was still there as if waiting for the dawn.
Cecily stared at his figure for a long time, feeling hopeless.
The sun rose on time, but there was no warmth in its rays as it fell on the man who had spent the night outside.
Cecily had only fallen asleep at five in the morning last night, so she was still asleep at this hour. Aurelie, on the other hand, was not someone who could wake up without an alarm clock, so it was no surprise that they woke up late.
Darian waited until eight thirty and didn't see anyone coming down. He thought that she probably didn't want to see him and was intentionally avoiding him.
Darian extinguished his cigarette butt and left in his car.
When Cecily woke up, Aurelie was still fast asleep, holding onto the blanket. Cecily remembered Darian and hurriedly went to the balcony to look down.
He was already gone.
Cecily couldn't describe her emotions. She felt a bit agitated and restless. She woke Aurelie up and the two of them tidied up before heading to the office.
Aurelie seemed to have processed all the negative emotions overnight. By the time they entered the company, there was no trace of the sadness from the previous night. She held Cecily's hand and asked, "When did Darian leave last night?"
"He stayed overnight, didn't he?"
"Then he probably turned into a human popsicle and was taken away by the cleaning crew."
Cecily couldn't help but curl her lip, but the next second, as she looked at the man in front of her, she froze, and so did Aurelie.
Damn, how did this ice block come here?
Darian was sitting in the employee area of her company, occupying some unlucky person's desk. However, with him around, the atmosphere here was even more diligent than when she, as the boss, was here.
Darian was still in the same clothes from last night, seemingly not having gone home.
Cecily stood frozen in place, watching the man stand up and walk toward her step by step.
Aurelie, being sensible, immediately let go of Cecily and stepped aside, clearly waiting to see how it played out.
"I have something to say to you," the man said hoarsely.
Faced with the man's forceful approach, Cecily was caught off guard and took a step back, only to have the man reach out and pull her back in by her waist, coaxing her, "Don't run away from me."
Cecily's heart skipped a beat, she lifted her head, took a quick glance around, then lowered it.
"All right, let's talk in the office."
"Okay." Darian grabbed her hand and pulled her directly toward the office, looking even more familiar with the place than she was.
Just moments ago, the busy workers, head down and diligently working, looked up, watching a man pull their boss into the office with the blinds drawn shut.
In broad daylight, a man and a woman enter an office alone, with the blinds closed.
Suddenly, a male colleague who loved to make jokes let out a scream, followed by a round of teasing.
"Miss Aurelie, what's going on? Isn't that Mr. Fitzgerald from The Fitzgerald? A magnate in the business world. He's involved with Mrs. Watson."
One by one, they stretched their necks, filled with immense curiosity.
Aurelie cleared her throat, satisfying their gossip-filled thoughts, "They are a couple who had a little disagreement. Mr. Fitzgerald is here to make amends."
