Chapter 538 Your Apology is Too Cheap

Cecily's steps halted, and her fingers were unconsciously clenched. Instinctively, she refused to enter

Bryan, with bloodshot eyes filled with remorse and anguish, witnessed Cecily's hesitation and choked out, "Cecily."

Cecily immediately turned and walked away.

"Cecily!" Bryan struggled to get up from the bed. However, with a cast on his leg, he couldn't catch up to Cecily.

Nevertheless, he struggled to get off the bed, hopping on one leg to chase after her.

"Cecily," he called out repeatedly, making Cecily clench her teeth.

"Why are you calling me so affectionately, Mr. Whitaker? Who are you ?" She turned her head, her eyes red as she looked at the disheveled Bryan.

The term "Mr. Whitaker" seemed to sting Bryan.

"Cecily, I know everything now. It's my fault. I am your biological father!"

As the word "father" slipped from his lips, Bryan couldn't help but find it ludicrous, even to himself.

Having put his own daughter through so much, he knew he must be the worst father in the world.

He was aware that he had no right to see Cecily again, but he couldn't resist the urge.

"My father?"

So, he knew.

Cecily bit her lip. She wanted to cry but her tears had dried up in those few days.

"Mr. Whitaker, you are mistaken. I have no father, never did. Your daughter is Freya, not me. Please go back and stop bothering me."

Bryan's body stiffened, and for a moment, he felt an overwhelming heartache, his whole body trembling.

Cecily disregarded the potential impact on her abdominal wound, taking strides to leave.

Bryan watched Cecily's back. His hoarse voice couldn't help but say, "Cecily, I'm sorry."

"Sorry?" Cecily lowered her head and laughed sarcastically.

It seemed like people thought they could cover up any mistake by saying sorry. Did an apology help?

He said sorry to her, but could her child come back?

"And then? Do you want me to forget that unpleasant time, and  want me to forgive you, and call you Dad? Don't you find that ironic?" Cecily questioned Bryan with extreme calmness.

Bryan looked at Cecily, listening to every word she said; each one felt like a knife stabbing into his heart.

Bryan's face was full of sorrow.

Cecily stared at Bryan, who was slightly disheveled and weathered, feeling an overwhelming sense of fatigue.

"Have you finished talking? If so, please leave. I'm tired," Cecily said.

She didn't want to see him or talk to him any longer.

"Cecily, I don't expect your forgiveness for what happened before, but I am truly sorry. Whatever compensation you want, I can..."

"Shut up!" Cecily shouted, causing Bryan to stop abruptly.

"Dad? Whose dad are you?

You are Freya's dad, not mine.

I'll repeat it again, I have no father. Your daughter's name is Freya, not Cecily. Do you understand?"

Cecily's voice trembled. "You say you're sorry to me, but what can you compensate me with? The child is gone. Can you bring him back? Can you?

If I were you, I wouldn't dare to show up. I'd stay far away to avoid causing more distress."

Cecily wanted to stay calm, but she couldn't. After speaking emotionally, she left without any hesitation.

Bryan tried to catch up, but he fell hard to the ground.

"Mr. Whitaker!"

The sound, heavy and sickening, caught Sam completely off guard. But Bryan, as if the blow hadn't landed on his own flesh, only had eyes for the fading silhouette, his gaze unwavering.

Bryan had never imagined he would fail so miserably in this life, losing both his wife and child. He didn't ask for anything else, just to spend the rest of his life making it up to them.

Cecily walked quickly, her footsteps carrying her forward without a clear sense of time. Eventually, she found herself in a garden, where she came to a halt. Taking a deep breath, she consciously suppressed her emotions.

She sat on a bench for a long time, her weariness eventually causing her to drift into a slumber, her head resting against the backrest. Suddenly, she felt warmth as a suit jacket was draped over her.

She opened her eyes, seeing Blaise's handsome, mischievous face.

Cecily moved and sat up straight. "I'm not cold."

"I saw you shivering."

Cecily pressed her lips and returned the jacket to him, "What are you doing here? Don't you have things to do?"

Blaise looked down and smiled. "I had no choice. The two kids wanted to see you, so I'm just the bodyguard."

"What?"Cecily was questioning.

"Mommy!" Griffin and Rowan exclaimed in unison, suddenly appearing from behind Cecily and jumping into her arms.

"Mommy, we told the uncles and aunts, and we also told Grandma and Daddy too, then we asked Uncle Blaise to bring us out. Aren't we super good?"

Griffin blinked his big eyes at Cecily, looking for praise.

Cecily kissed Griffin and Rowan on the cheeks. "Yes, you are super good."

Griffin and Rowan were very happy to be kissed by their mommy.

"Did you thank Uncle Blaise?"

Griffin pouted and said, "Uncle Blaise told us to call him godfather, so we don't need to say thank you."

Blaise, standing nearby, cleared his throat and lifted Griffin up. "Where is your sense of responsibility? Was it eaten by a dog or something?"

Griffin playfully stuck out his tongue, "Maya doesn't eat responsibility."

Cecily felt a bit overwhelmed. "So, did you call Blaise that?"

"Yes, we did." Rowan nodded.

Cecily tugged at her lips, looking amusedly at Blaise. "You're quite amazing. In just a few days, you've turned my son into your godson."

Blaise looked rather proud. "I think I'm pretty amazing, too."

Cecily rubbed her forehead, feeling helpless. If Darian knew his sons had become Blaise's godson, he would probably be furious enough to fight Blaise.

"By the way, who is Maya?" Cecily asked curiously, having just heard Griffin mention the name.

"She's my good friend. Do you want to meet her, Mommy?"

Cecily was even more curious now. In just a few days, they had a godfather and a friend.

"Maya, come meet Mommy," Griffin shouted.

As soon as he finished speaking, a white figure eagerly rushed over, almost pulling the adult man holding it off his feet.

A magnificent Tibetan Mastiff, its fur as white as freshly fallen snow, strode over to Griffin. The sheer size of the dog was imposing, its seated form dwarfing Griffin's standing height. To avoid scaring people, it was on a leash and had a muzzle.

Griffin petted Maya's fur and said, "Maya, this is my mommy."

"Mommy, isn't Maya cute?"

"Yes, very cute."

Cecily cautiously pointed at the dog. "Can someone tell me whose dog this is?"

"It's Uncle Blaise's, but he gave her to me," Griffin said.

Blaise nodded.

Cecily looked at Rowan in her arms. "Rowan, you don't have one too, do you?"

Rowan nodded. "I do. Do you want to meet mine too, Mommy?"

Cecily sighed softly. She was a bit afraid of dogs, but seeing Maya sitting next to Griffin like a loyal knight, she knew it had been well-trained.

"Don't worry. It doesn't bite," Blaise said calmly.

Cecily nodded, not planning to stop Griffin and Rowan from keeping the dogs.

"I'll come pick them up tonight. I have some things to do, so I'll leave now," Blaise said and then left.

Cecily, Griffin, and Rowan sat outside for a while. Just as they were about to return to the hospital room, a familiar voice sounded behind them.

"Cecily."

Cecily turned around and saw Percy and Karen.

Percy's gaze swept over Griffin and Rowan, his eyes narrowing slightly, and then he walked over to Cecily with Karen.

Cecily forced a smile. "Uncle Percy, Aunt Karen."

"Cecily, you're still injured. Why aren't you resting in the hospital room?" Karen took Cecily's hand with concern.

Cecily said softly, "It's boring in the room, so I came out for a walk."

"You still need to rest well and move around less."

Cecily nodded, "I know."

"These are Rowan and Griffin, right?" Karen, who liked children, bent down to touch their heads.

Cecily smiled faintly. "Is there something you needed?"

"No, we just came to see you," Percy said.

"Mommy, how should we address them?" Rowan and Griffin, having never met Percy and Karen, didn't know what to call them and felt it would be impolite not to address them.

When Percy heard this, his eyes flickered, and he bent down to look at Rowan and Griffin. "Maybe in the future, you'll call us Grandpa and Grandma."

Although Percy spoke in a joking tone, Cecily understood that he was also testing.

"Grandpa and Grandma? But only our daddy's parents can be called Grandpa and Grandma."

Percy continued, "But your mommy and daddy are divorced. She might marry into our family in the future. If you follow your mommy, then we would be family, and you should call me Grandpa."

Cecily's gaze turned subtly colder as she looked at Percy.

Karen lightly tugged on Percy's sleeve.

Talking to children about divorce and such matters was a bit too much.

"That's not right." Griffin's little face tensed up.

"What's not right?"

"Are you a dummy? Don't you know? Our mommy belongs to our daddy and won't marry into your family."

The fifty-something dummy was stunned, his mouth twitching.

"He's an old dummy," Rowan added seriously.

"Anyway, our mommy belongs to our daddy, not to your family."
