Chapter 274 Being Sought for Revenge.

Cecily put down the food box and was about to stand up straight when Darian, at some point, had already stood behind her, his arm wrapping around her waist from behind.

Darian's deep voice sounded in her ear, tinged with a hint of pleasure. "I'm glad you took the initiative to come and see me."

Cecily's eyelashes fluttered as she turned within his embrace to meet his intense gaze. "I have something to discuss with you."

Darian looked at her and said, "I'm also happy you'd come to me with your issues." It proved that he was at least important to her.

Cecily forced a smile and gently pushed Darian's shoulder. "Let go of me for now and have your meal first. I haven't eaten either."

Darian agreed and released her, bending down to organize the food boxes on the table.

Cecily had prepared a feast, both appetizing and aromatic.

"Did you make them yourself?"

"I bought them from a restaurant." Cecily sat across from him, picking up her utensils. "Let's eat."

Darian smiled. "Alright. So, what did you want to discuss with me?"

Cecily fiddled with her utensils and began, "People from the Bennett family approached me."

Darian's hand paused as he picked up his food, and he looked at her with concern. "What did they say?"

"They invited me to the Bennett family's banquet."

Darian gazed at her. "You agreed?"

"I did."

"Good." Darian raised an eyebrow slightly. "You should have agreed. The purpose of the Bennett family hosting a banquet at this time is clear to everyone. As for the people who came to you, if I'm not mistaken, it should be Evan and his brother, your uncles."

Cecily nodded. "You're right."

Darian set down his utensils, his handsome face turning serious. "What did they say to you? Did they say they believe you're the real one and that they want you to come back, promising to help you?"

"In a way, yes. But I'm aware that while there may be some truth in their words, there are also their own ulterior motives."

Darian analyzed the situation in a deep voice, "You can go, but you can't trust them. The Bennett family is a lucrative prize, not just for them but for outsiders as well. Whether it's you or the one at the Bennett family, both of you have just returned, and your foundation is still weak. No one at the Bennett family will support you. This is their opportunity.

"They want the two of you to fight it out while they assess your strengths, waiting for the perfect moment to take over if both of you fall. It's fortunate that your mother left three respected elders to support the Bennett family. They haven't caused any trouble before finding the heir.

"They've refrained from making a move due to regulations, but once the heir is determined, if the heir is deemed useless or meets an accident, it's only natural for them to fight for that position."

Cecily blinked her beautiful eyes, understanding his points.

As Darian spoke, his brow furrowed.

He was all too aware of these things, so he knew that it was very dangerous for Cecily to go to the Bennett family. Whether it was the impostor, Evan, or Caleb, they were all potential threats to her.

Cecily wouldn't harm others intentionally, but others would come after her.

"I'll go with you." Darian looked at her quietly and suggested, his tone not one of negotiation.

"I don't plan to bring Rowan and Griffin, so you..."

"You want me to stay and take care of the children?"

Cecily pursed her lips. "We can't both be away from them."

"Then bring them along."

"That would put them in danger."

Darian fell silent for a moment and sighed. "Cecily, right now, you are the one in the most danger."

Cecily bit her lips. "I know. That's exactly why you have to take the children away from me to ensure their safety."

Darian couldn't help but chuckle helplessly. "Should I praise you for being considerate?"

Cecily didn't know what to say.

"I'll make sure the kids are looked after, and I'll go with you to the Bennett family," Darian said authoritatively, leaving no room for debate.

Cecily bit her lip and remained silent.

Darian lowered his gaze, picked up a shrimp, and put it on the plate. Not hearing a response from Cecily, he looked up, thinking he might have said something to upset her.

"What's wrong?"

Cecily slightly pursed her lips. "It's nothing. I just feel like I should refuse you, but I don't know how to refuse."

She truly couldn't face the Bennett family alone, and she didn't have the confidence.

Having Darian's company would certainly give her more confidence and a sense of security, and things would be easier to handle.

But their current relationship...

If she accepted all the things he had done for her, what exactly were they now?

Darian, understanding of Cecily's sensitive and intricate thoughts, suggested calmly, "Think of it as me making up for the hurt I caused you before."

He knew that he had a lot to make up for, and these actions were just the beginning.

Cecily looked at him, pondering for a while before speaking slowly, "Let's eat first. The food will get cold."

The two of them finished their lunch in silence. Darian usually didn't eat much, but because Cecily was there today, his mood was good, and he ate more than usual.

Cecily neatly packed up the lunch boxes. "I'll head back first. Tonight, I'll take the children to see Mrs. Thompson, as I promised last time."

"Alright."

"You should get back to work. I won't disturb you."

"I'll walk you out."

Without waiting for Cecily to refuse, Darian directly held her hand and calmly led her out.

Cecily looked down at their intertwined hands, a faint smile in her eyes.

In the evening, Cecily picked up the two children and went to the hospital to see Sandra. Unbeknownst to her, someone in the corner was staring at her intently.

Cecily led the two children out of the car.

The person quickly rushed out from the corner.

Cecily reacted swiftly, pushing the two children behind her for protection. At the same time, a sharp knife was pressed against her neck. "Don't move."

"Mama!" The two children trembled, their voices trembling as they cried out.

"It's okay. Don't be afraid."

Cecily held her breath as she tensed up, her eyes locking onto the person's face.

The man in front of her had a prominent burn on his left cheek, but she could still make out his facial features. Cecily gritted her teeth. "Are you Elijah?"

The man sneered. "Do you know me?"

Cecily swallowed. She didn't know him; she had never even seen him before.

But Darian had told her that Elijah was the one who fired the shot that day. He believed Ophelia's words that Cecily had hired someone to kill Ophelia and his child.

This man was clearly here for revenge, and he must be Elijah.

"You're here to seek revenge because of that child, aren't you?" Cecily said, her body stiff, tilting her head slightly.

Elijah's tone grew more agitated, his blade inching closer. "Of course. I thought that Ophelia was a malicious woman, but I didn't expect you to be even more malicious than her."
