Chapter 627 Offer Him Fifteen Percent of the Shares as Compensation
"Where did you snag all those shares?" Stanley's voice was dripping with suspicion.
How the hell did Nathaniel get his hands on so many shares?
Nathaniel shot back, "What was today's meeting about? You think you're gonna be the heir? Nah, I ain't down with that."
Nathaniel's bluntness almost had Stanley ready to throw a punch.
"Why the hell not?" Stanley growled, barely keeping his cool.
"Because I'm a shareholder too, man. I got a say in this. With all that dirt on you online, you really think you're fit to be the heir?" Nathaniel's tone was so smug it made Stanley wanna throttle him.
Stanley grabbed Nathaniel by the collar, "You set me up!"
"Nah, bro. You did this to yourself. If you hadn't messed up, I wouldn't have found out," Nathaniel said, shoving Stanley's hand away.
"You're slandering me!" Stanley shouted.
"Slander?" Nathaniel laughed, "I've been wronged for eleven years and kept my mouth shut. Now you're the one crying foul?"
"You want justice? If you felt so wronged, why didn't you speak up back then? Now you're just stirring up trouble," Stanley shot back.
Nathaniel was about to retort when Terry cut in, his face red with anger, "Enough! Whatever the issue, we handle it at home. What kind of show are you putting on, fighting here?"
"Isn't this how it's always been, Dad? You've always known about our rivalry. Why act like it's a big deal now?" Nathaniel's cold words made Terry's face darken even more.
Nathaniel was the spitting image of Terry in his younger days, full of fire and spirit.
But it was a damn shame.
Stanley was the legitimate son, while Nathaniel and the others were born out of Terry's affairs.
So, Terry had always pinned his hopes on Stanley.
Even when he knew Stanley had framed Nathaniel, Terry still stood by Stanley.
Nathaniel turned to the shareholders, "You guys are all shareholders of Kensington Group. You really think Stanley should be the heir?"
The heir was supposed to lead Kensington Group to new heights. But with all the dirt on Stanley, if it got confirmed, he was toast. The company's rep would tank, and their investments would take a hit.
Anyone with half a brain wouldn't back this.
"Terry, we gotta rethink this. Can't rush it," one shareholder piped up, and others nodded in agreement.
"Yeah, this is huge. No need to hand the company to Stanley right now. Let him sort his mess out first," another suggested.
"I agree. Let's put a pin in it, Terry. You need to reconsider," another chimed in.
Stanley stood off to the side, glaring daggers at Nathaniel, his eyes burning with rage.
Terry frowned, deep in thought.
The shareholders were spot on; announcing Stanley as the heir right now was a no-go. Even if he pushed for it, they wouldn't back him.
Stanley knew Nathaniel had totally wrecked his plans today.
He kept his mouth shut, but one could feel the anger radiating off him.
The meeting wrapped up, and the shareholders trickled out. What was left was a family matter, and it was best handled in private.
Once everyone was gone, the room went dead silent. Terry's secretary slipped out and shut the door behind her.
Now it was just the three of them.
Stanley's bottled-up rage finally exploded. He grabbed Nathaniel by the collar, "You're asking for it!"
"I'm just laying out the facts. Why so mad?" Nathaniel smirked, getting up from his chair. "Meeting's over, so I'm out. By the way, I'm a shareholder now. How about a position, huh?"
"How'd you get those shares?" Terry, still sitting, kept his stern look as he grilled Nathaniel.
"Does it really matter?" Nathaniel sneered.
Stanley's eyes were dark and dangerous. Tonight, things had gone way off script.
Nathaniel had been messed up bad in Fluvoria, and everyone thought he was a goner. But here he was, back in one piece and throwing a wrench in Stanley's plans.
Stanley realized he'd seriously underestimated Nathaniel.
"Dad!" Stanley turned to Terry, "He's stirring up trouble on purpose. We can't let him get away with this."
"Both of you, zip it." Terry stood up, his stern gaze locking onto Nathaniel. "Get all that crap off the internet. What happened back then is done. Stop causing trouble."
Terry's tone was all business.
Nathaniel sneered, "I did ten years in prison because of this. You think that's fair to me?"
"Then what do you want? You wanna flip the whole Kensington family upside down to feel better?" Terry's face was red with anger.
"Why not?" Nathaniel shot back.
Seeing Nathaniel wasn't budging, Terry softened his tone and walked over, patting Nathaniel's shoulder. "Nathaniel, I know you got screwed over back then, but it's been years. You've done your time. No need to drag this out. I'll make it up to you for what you went through. Just let Stanley off the hook and take down the news."
Nathaniel looked at Terry with pure hatred.
Why didn't he tell Stanley to go easy on him back then?
If Terry had just looked into it a bit, Nathaniel wouldn't have spent ten years in prison. Even a single word from him would've made a difference.
But Terry said nothing, all to protect Stanley.
During those ten years, Terry never visited him once. After he got out, he let Stanley humiliate him in every way possible.
Terry didn't investigate, fine. But after Nathaniel got out, he did his own digging.
Now that he had the truth, Terry was asking him to let Stanley off the hook, saying he'd compensate him!
What a joke.
Nathaniel replied, "Fine, if it's compensation, show some real sincerity. The 15% shares Stanley has were given by you. As your son, you shouldn't play favorites. I don't want much. Give me 15% of the shares as compensation, and I'll let it go."
