Chapter 543 I Don't Agree with Their Marriage

The wind blew through her hair, and Evander's hand, holding the rose, began to sweat from nervousness.

"You should cry now, some tears would make it more real." Evander joked with Cecily.

Hearing Evander's words, Cecily's eyes gradually reddened with tears slipping down her cheeks. To outsiders, it seemed like Cecily was wrapped in happiness, deeply moved.

Evander looked at Cecily and chuckled, "You'd actually make a great actress."

"Really? Maybe I should change careers then."Cecily said.

Evander smiled and handed the rose to Cecily, his eyes full of affection.

Cecily bent down to take the rose from his hand, noticing the deep emotion in his eyes, and couldn't help but praise, "You really are an award-winning actor; your performance is so convincing."

Evander paused, looking intently at Cecily, and silently thought to himself, 'I wasn't acting.'

Percy stood nearby, unable to hear their conversation, but he was very pleased with the scene unfolding in the flower field.

"I object!"

A voice of opposition rang out.

Everyone immersed in the proposal atmosphere instinctively turned to look at the source of the voice.

Percy's face changed instantly.

He thought, 'I'm so close to success, who dares to cause trouble now?'

"Who?" Percy was puzzled.

"Me!" Bryan, though leaning on a medical crutch, still stood with an imposing presence."I don't agree it!"I won't approve of my daughter marrying your son!"

Percy furrowed his brows. He recalled Josep mentioning that Cecily could be Bryan's biological daughter. It seemed to be true, and Bryan was already aware of the truth.

Bryan's sudden appearance to cause trouble infuriated Percy. With a mischievous gleam in his eye, Percy approached Bryan, a smirk plastered on his face.

Bryan's unexpected arrival took Cecily aback.

"Mr. Whitaker, I think you're mistaken. Who here is your daughter?"

Percy was aware of the hurt Bryan had caused Cecily and knew she wouldn't acknowledge him. That was why he dared to question Bryan so boldly.

"Cecily is my daughter. I refuse to let her be with Evander, do you hear me?"

Bryan could tell from Percy's sneaky looks that he wasn't a man of honor. As a businessman himself, Bryan could easily deduce how much the Lockwoods were using Cecily's marriage for their own benefit. She wouldn't find happiness marrying into the Lockwood family.

"Is Cecily your daughter?" Percy glanced at Cecily before turning back to Bryan with a mocking look. "Did you lose your mind and start claiming random women as your daughter? Last I checked, your daughter's name is Freya."

Bryan saw through Percy's mocking smile, knowing that because Percy knew Cecily wouldn't acknowledge him, his actions were nothing but a joke.

Cecily understood the situation just as well.

Percy's bold mockery was only because he knew she wouldn't recognize Bryan.

But Bryan wasn't fazed; his presence was to disrupt the proposal. Seeing how grand the Lockwoods were making the proposal, it was clear they wanted to corner Cecily and prevent her from refusing.

Bryan's expression darkened as he ignored Percy, focusing on Cecily. Despite walking with a limp, he approached her and took her hand. "If you don't want this, just say no. Don't worry about them. I'll take you away. See if anyone dares to protest."

Standing behind Vivienne, Aurelie watched the unfolding drama, nervously gripping Vivienne's arm. "Aunt Vivienne, Bryan doesn't know this proposal is fake. Shouldn't we tell him?"

Aurelie had a feeling that Bryan's outburst would lead to an embarrassing situation, and Cecily would also be put in an awkward position. Yet Vivienne remained calm, showing no intention to intervene.

"Let it be. Cecily can handle it." Vivienne said with poise.

When he saw Bryan so boldly disrupt the proposal, the expression on Percy's face turned cold. "Mr. Whitaker, you keep saying Cecily is your biological daughter. Why don't you ask her yourself if she recognizes you as her father?"

Bryan ignored Percy's taunts, his gaze locked solely on Cecily.

If Cecily showed even the slightest hint of wanting to leave, he'd take her away at any cost.

Seeing Cecily's indifference to his words, Percy's smirk widened with even more disdain. "Mr. Whitaker, you seem to be having a mental breakdown. You really should get that checked out. Someone, get him out of here! Can't you see Mr. Whitaker's clearly not well? Get him to a doctor, now!"

The bodyguards positioned nearby immediately moved in. "Mr. Whitaker, please leave."

Bryan ignored them.

"Mr. Whitaker! Please leave immediately."

The bodyguards repeated their warning with stern faces.

When Bryan still showed no intention of leaving, Percy waved his hand dismissively. "What are you waiting for? Get him out of here!"

The atmosphere grew increasingly awkward as people around began whispering and gossiping.

Bryan's eyes remained fixed on Cecily. "The Lockwood family is nothing but a den of wolves. You won't find any good in marrying into them. I know you hate me, but you need to listen to me this time."

Percy's temper flared. "Are you all deaf? Get this man out of here now!"

"He's my father!"

Cecily's voice cut through the chaos like a knife, halting the bodyguards in their tracks.

At that moment, Bryan froze, his entire body immobilized by Cecily's words. He stood there as if time had stopped, stunned.

Her powerful declaration that he was her father!

Bryan stood there, dumbfounded, as an overwhelming joy began to take over him.

Before he could fully process the euphoria, Cecily yanked her hand from his grasp and turned to Percy. "Uncle Percy, he is indeed my father."

Percy's eyes narrowed dangerously, confusion flashing across his face.

Bryan had hurt Cecily for Freya's sake, yet she still acknowledged him.

This was beyond Percy's expectations.

Percy clearly didn't understand Cecily well enough.

In private, Cecily could hate Bryan and refuse to acknowledge him, but at this moment, she would not allow him to become a subject of mockery.

Cecily knew exactly when to stand firm and when to yield.

Bryan stood frozen for a moment, trying to shake off the shock. "Cecily, you..."

Cecily locked eyes with Bryan, giving him a subtle nod to leave. Then, she addressed him directly, "Go back. I'll handle this myself, and I don't regret my decision."

Bryan read Cecily's silent signal and, noticing Vivienne's passive presence, hesitated.

He could see through the Lockwood family's motives, and he knew that Vivienne and Cecily were fully aware of their intentions. If Cecily hadn't agreed to be here, she wouldn't have shown up so obediently. If she didn't have other plans, how could she possibly be ready to marry someone else despite her apparent affection for Darian?

Bryan was beginning to understand.

His earlier haste had blinded him to these details.

Percy's face shifted from hostility to a forced, insincere smile as he approached. "Cecily, so this really is your father?"

Cecily nodded in affirmation.

Instantly, Percy's demeanor changed like a chameleon. The sharpness he had shown earlier was replaced with a falsely apologetic tone. He extended his hand to Bryan. "Mr. Whitaker, I apologize. I had no idea you were Cecily's father. I regret any offense caused. Please accept my apologies."

Bryan simply swatted Percy's hand away, showing no sign of courtesy or forgiveness.
