Chapter 299 Darian: I Will Never Let Go of You

Hunter's gaze darkened as he silently contemplated for a moment. Then, he raised his hand and said, "Let's keep this to ourselves for the time being.”

"Why?"

“We need to keep this information to ourselves for now and strategize for the long term. Consider this: the true Cecily is married to Darian. If she returns and assumes leadership of the family business with Darian's support, where will that leave me and Keaen?"

Bradley had a moment of realization and agreed. "Indeed, if the real Cecily reemerges, the current managers will undoubtedly prioritize grooming her for leadership, leaving you with even fewer opportunities.”

Bradley was glad she consulted with Hunter first; she almost went to tell a few managers what she heard.

"Don't tell anyone about this matter. I need to think about what to do next. Let them battle it out; it's preferable if they fight until the end."

"That's right. It's best if both sides suffer. You refrained from seizing the position of the head of the family before due to family rules, but if the heir is useless, someone else will have to take over. By then, those managers won't have much to say."

Hunter smiled, understanding the implications.

If the designated heir was useless, then the position of the head of the Bennett's family wouldl naturally become his.

Hunter's eyes darkened, a cold smile flickering across his face.

After a moment of contemplation, Bradley inquired, "She mentioned that Vivienne murdered Patrick. Do you believe that claim?”

Hunter shook his head, "I'm not sure about that. Indeed, Vivienne has always been enigmatic in her behavior. There are many aspects of her that remain a mystery even to the select few managers. How could she tell me? But judging by Vivienne's kind nature, it's unlikely that she would harm anyone."

Cecily led Darian to the car, letting Cecily fiddle with him, a smile in his eyes all the while.

Cecily was afraid he hadn't fully recovered from his injuries, so she reached out to unbutton Darian's shirt.

Darian smirked slightly, arms outstretched as the woman began to undress him. Seeing Cecily's anxious expression, he asked in a low, hoarse voice, "Can’t you wait?”

Just as Cecily unbuttoned the fourth button of his shirt and saw his chest, her fingers paused. She looked up and met Darian's playful gaze.

The space in the carriage was small, the light dim, and the atmosphere inexplicably ambiguous.

Cecily realized something and was about to retract her hand, but Darian's hand captured hers, "Go on."

Cecily pursed her lips, "I just wanted to see if you were injured."

"Is that so?"

With his question, Cecily became even more anxious. "What otherwise? Do you think I want to take advantage of you?"

Darian chuckled, "Yes."

Annoyed, Cecily lightly slapped him. "Nonsense."

Darian's smile deepened as he pulled the blushing Cecily into his arms. "You can take advantage if you want. I am yours."

Cecily pushed him away. "I'm not as rogue as you."

Darian held onto her, embracing her in his arms, resting his head on her slender shoulder, inhaling her pleasant scent, feeling at peace.

After a while, he sighed softly, "Sorry, Cecily."

Cecily's heart trembled slightly, not understanding why Darian was apologizing.

"What for?"

"Because Owen made you suffer."

Cecily blinked, paused for a moment, and then spoke, "Darian, Owen doesn't want us to be together, maybe he has a reason."

Owen hesitated at the time, not knowing what to say.

Cecily was deeply curious about what could have caused Owen to hold back from speaking out in a situation where he clearly wanted to intervene. She worried that there might be some underlying resentment between them.

She still remembered what Anais, the old servant of the Fitzgerald's family, said at the time, 'The debt of the mother must be repaid by the daughter!'

At that time, she always thought that the 'mother' Anais referred to was her, and the 'daughter' was her child.

But later, she realized that wasn't the case. The 'mother' she mentioned was her mother Vivienne, and the 'daughter' was her!

It was something her mother did, but since they couldn't find her mother, they sought revenge on her.

Now Owen was making every effort to keep her away from Darian. She pondered whether it was truly because of something her mother had done that made Owen so repulsed by her.

After much thought and considering everything, Cecily could only come to this conclusion.

Cecily pursed her lips and asked, "Darian, hypothetically speaking, if there were any underlying animosity between us or our families, how would you handle it?"

"What would I do? Leave you?"

"Yes." Cecily nodded.

If there were really some deep-seated resentment between them, could they still be together?

Darian let go of Cecily, looking into her clear and bright eyes, he said in a low voice, "No matter what deep-seated resentment there may be, I will never let go of your hand in this life, forever."

Cecily's eyes trembled, Darian's dark eyes full of seriousness and love.

That kind of gaze left Cecily momentarily speechless.

While Cecily was still in a daze, Darian reached out, hugged her waist, and with strong arms, lifted her onto his lap.

Cecily was startled. "What are you doing?"

Darian gently stroked her cheek. "Don't overthink, okay? I'm afraid."

" Afraid of what?"

"You finally agreed to give me a chance; I'm afraid you'll change your mind."
