Chapter 534 A Couple Should Rely on Each Other
After careful consideration, Gary decided to tell Cecily about it.
Vivienne's physical condition was visibly poor.
As soon as he dialed the number, Gary regretted it because he had promised Vivienne not to tell Cecily about this.
The call was answered quickly
"What's up?" came Cecily's puzzled voice.
"Cecily." Gary hesitated, his mouth poised to speak, but conflicted emotions held him back. He struggled to find the right words to convey what he wanted to say to Cecily.
Cecily waited for Gary to continue, but he didn't. She asked suspiciously, "Why aren't you saying anything?"
Gary paused. Upon hearing Cecily's voice tinged with fatigue, Gary swallowed his unspoken words and replied, "Nothing. You should rest early. Your injury hasn't healed yet, take good care of yourself. Don't overthink things."
Cecily found Gary a bit strange. He called her just to remind her to rest well, which he had never done before, nor had he spoken so much.
Although puzzled, Cecily couldn't detect anything unusual in Gary's voice. She responded softly, "You too."
Gary hung up the phone, feeling a mix of emotions.
Cecily put the phone aside, leaned back on the hospital bed, and blinked. Darian came out of the bathroom and immediately noticed Cecily's dazed expression.
Hearing the sound, Cecily turned her head to look at him.
Darian walked over and naturally pulled her into his arms. "Are you still thinking about the incident tonight?"
Cecily leaned her head on Darian's broad shoulder, a bitter smile on her lips. "Gary just called me, acting all weird."
"How?"
"He told me to take care of myself."
"Is that weird?" Darian asked.
"He specifically called to tell me this, but never did that before. Isn't it strange? It seemed like he wanted to say something but hesitated, and then just made small talk. Do you think he's hiding something from me?"
Darian tucked Cecily into the blanket, saying lightly, "I think you're overthinking it. A lot happened tonight, and he must be worried about you. So he just called to check on you."
"Is that so?"
Unable to come up with any plausible explanations for what Gary might be hiding, Cecily decided to let go of her suspicions.
Darian carefully tucked her in and turned off the light, leaving a nightlight on. His actions were gentle and attentive.
Since Cecily got injured, Darian had been taking care of her himself. He didn't want anyone else to do it, fearing they wouldn't be careful enough and might hurt her.
"Sleep now." Darian kissed her on the forehead and sat down beside her.
Cecily turned to look at him and said, "You should go rest too. Don't sleep on the couch."
"Without you, I can't sleep." Darian's words stopped Cecily from saying anything further.
Hearing this, Cecily felt a bit heartbroken. Darian had an immense weight on his shoulders and had to deal with many issues, yet he still took care of her.
Seeing Cecily's wide-open eyes, Darian smiled helplessly. "Still not sleeping? Do you need me to put you to bed?"
Cecily finally closed her eyes. After a while, she felt him move to the couch.
Late at night, it seemed neither of them could sleep.
Darian lay on the couch with his eyes closed when he suddenly felt a small, warm presence approach.
Darian paused slightly, and Cecily had already nestled into his arms. Her soft voice sounded muffled in his embrace, "Come closer, and we'll be able to fall asleep."
Darian's deep eyes showed a different emotion. He immediately hugged her presence tightly, a smile tugging at his lips, and responded in a low voice, "Okay."
Coming closer, they could warm each other up and drift off to sleep
Cecily wanted to tell him that they were a couple, meant to rely on each other, not just fighting alone.
"Darian, I don't want to hide behind you. So, no matter what decisions I make in the future, don't stop me, okay?" Cecily's voice was soft and gentle.
Darian knew exactly what Cecily was referring to.
In the dim light, he looked down at her delicate, beautiful face, a hint of bitterness on his own.
He felt helpless, not knowing what to do with her, and could only compromise.
The next morning, when Cecily woke up, she was in her bed. Darian must have gone to the company. There was a thermos on the table with breakfast he had prepared.
The fire last night was a big deal. Josep and Percy knew about it. However, since it happened at night, they only found out and started investigating the next day.
Darian had sealed off the information, so they couldn't find out anything.
Unable to get any information themselves, Percy sent Karen and Evander to the hospital to get some answers from Cecily. After all, the fire was at the Bennett Manor, and Cecily must know something.
The Bennett Manor catching fire out of nowhere was impossible. There had to be more to it.
Karen came to Cecily under the guise of concern, but to her surprise, Cecily looked completely bewildered.
"My house caught fire? When did this happen?"
"Didn't you know?" Karen looked at Cecily with wide eyes.
Cecily shook her head and grabbed Karen's arm, "Aunt Karen, How could my house catch fire? When did this happen? How's my mom? Is anyone hurt?"
