Chapter 77 Rowan Came back

Darian looked at Sandra lying in the hospital bed, his gaze deepening. He instructed the caregivers to take good care of her and then walked out of the room.

Larkin had just received a phone call. His usually stern face now had a hint of excitement as he approached Darian. "Mr. Fitzgerald, the young master has been found."

"Rowan's been found?" Darian furrowed his brow, puzzled.

"Yes, Mr. Fitzgerald."

"Where was he found?"

"A servant ran into the young master wandering outside and brought him straight home."

This information was freshly obtained by Larkin and he relayed it to Darian.

Darian listened and then his eyes narrowed slightly. He pondered to himself, 'Wandering outside? So, Cecily hadn't sent the child away after all? And she hadn't taken good care of him, letting a five-year-old wander alone outside?'

With these thoughts, Darian's frown deepened.

Cecily had just settled into her car when her phone rang with a call from Darian.

She glanced at the screen and her eyes narrowed slightly, wondering why Darian would call her.

Cecily, still fuming, answered the call, "What do you want now, Mr. Fitzgerald?"

Darian, on the other end, could feel his temples throb as he listened to Cecily's mocking tone. Her sharp tongue was really something else. "Is this your idea of childcare? Allowing a five-year-old to wander off alone? What kind of mother shows such little concern?"

Cecily, hearing the anger in Darian's voice, queried, "What are you talking about?"

"What am I talking about? Rowan went off on his own, and you, as his mother, had no idea. I really don't understand what you thought you gained by snatching him from me."

Cecily was left speechless, and before she could respond, Darian abruptly hung up. Her mind was instantly filled with questions, 'What was he talking about? Rowan?'

Rowan was supposed to be abroad, but based on Darian's tone, it seemed like he had seen Rowan today.

Feeling that something was amiss, Cecily immediately called Rowan. He picked up quickly, joyfully calling out to her, "Mommy."

"Rowan, are you still in Dorde?" she asked.

"Yeah, I am. What's wrong, Mommy?"

Cecily blinked and suddenly realized something. Perhaps it was not Rowan but instead it was Griffin.

"Rowan, Mommy's got a bit of an issue and I'll talk to you about it later."

"Okay," Rowan obediently replied.

Cecily quickly dialed Griffin's number, but as the call connected, a message popped up on her screen.

Cecily hung up and quickly glanced at the message.

Griffin: "Mommy, Darian won't stop until he locates my brother. So, to keep him safe, I'm posing as my brother and sticking close to Darian. Don't fret, Mom, I won't allow them to intimidate me."

Cecily read the message, her brow furrowing deeply. The text from Griffin confirmed her suspicion that it wasn't Rowan that Darian saw. Instead, Griffin intentionally let Darian see him and then pretended to be Rowan.

Cecily's eyes blazed with anger, suddenly at a loss for words.

Her son was exemplary in many respects, yet he had a tendency to make decisions independently. He wouldn't even seek advice from her, his own mother. Instead, he would act first and inform later, catching everyone off guard.

Cecily was so furious and anxious that she held her head in silence.

Now, all she could do was pray that the little rascal wouldn't be discovered by Darian.

She massaged her temples and sighed deeply. She then told the driver to change their destination to the Fitzgerald's home.

As soon as Darian got home, he saw Cecily getting out of her car.

Darian looked at the woman and let out a cold laugh, "You sure got here quickly."

"I'm taking... Rowan back home."

"With the way you parent, you want to take the child back?" he retorted.

The atmosphere between them immediately tensed up again.

Cecily locked eyes with Darian for a split second, took a deep breath, and decided not to argue.

As they entered the house, Darian glanced at the woman beside him, raising an eyebrow in silence. He noted how she seemed to have her act down perfectly.

In the living room, Griffin was repressing his restless nature, trying hard to mimic Rowan, appearing calm and obedient as he sat there with a cold expression.

It wasn't until he saw both Cecily and Darian enter that Griffin almost spun around in joy, then shot toward Cecily seeking a hug, but he stopped in his tracks.

He had to remember that at this moment, he was Rowan.

Cecily also got startled by Griffin's impulsive movement, her heart skipping a beat. If he had flung himself into her arms, Darian would surely have become suspicious.

Although she wasn't sure if Darian was suspicious at this point.

Griffin was indeed very clever; knowing that Rowan had a bandaged wound on the back of his head, he too wrapped gauze around his own head, managing to create a convincingly deceptive look.

Yet Cecily was still uneasy. After all, the person they were facing was Darian, and Darian was not someone that could be easily deceive.

Griffin remained calm, gazing at the two with a serene face, and in the most tranquil tone, called out, "Daddy, Mommy."

Cecily flashed Griffin a look, signaling him to sneak away with her later on.

Darian approached Griffin, looked at him and in a cold voice, asked, "How does it feel to follow this irresponsible woman?"

Hearing this, Cecily turned to Darian and retorted, "You're calling me irresponsible? Are you suggesting you're the responsible one, despite our son getting hurt numerous times under your care? And you have the audacity to criticize me?"

The two locked eyes for a moment before quickly parting ways, as if one more glance would ignite the volcanic anger in their hearts.

"Daddy, Mommy, don't fight. I'm okay right? Mommy isn't irresponsible. I ran out on my own. Mommy is good," Griffin emulated Rowan's typically calm speaking style.

It seemed that Darian had no suspicion about Griffin's identity as he snorted coldly, "You and your mother are quite the team."

'This little guy got won over by this woman in just one day,' Darian thought with a tug at his lips, feeling somewhat disgruntled.

"Aren't you leaving?" Darian cast a cold glance at Cecily.

In response to Darian, Cecily's stomach growled.

Right then, a servant walked by. "Mr. Fitzgerald, dinner is served."

Darian responded and looked back at Cecily, asking, "Hungry?"

She hadn't eaten a bite at the restaurant. Then there was the ordeal at the hospital. Now it was past eight; even an iron woman would be hungry by now.

"There's nothing here for you," he said.

With that, Darian lifted Griffin in his arms and headed toward the dining room.

Griffin was carried by Darian like a tiny chick, his short legs kicking twice in haste only to realize it was futile, so he simply gave up and let himself be placed in the chair in a resigned manner.

Cecily clenched her teeth, took a deep breath and turned on her heel, ready to walk away. However, after a couple steps, she remembered her son was still there. Cecily instantly felt like a wilted flower.

"I'm not eating." Griffin pushed the bowl in front of him forward, crossing his arms with a pout on his little face.

"What's wrong?" Darian glanced at the little guy next to him.

"I want to eat with Mommy or I won't eat at all!"
