Chapter381 Are You Happy Forgetting Me?

A sudden ring of the telephone pierced the silence.

Darian glanced at the phone screen and brought it to his ear. "Why aren't you asleep at this hour?"

Nathaniel chuckled. "Aren't you awake too?"

"What do you want?" asked Darian.

"Can't I call you for no reason?"

Darian checked the time. "You call me at three in the morning for no reason? Are you out of your mind?"

Already irritated today, Darian's patience was wearing thin. Just as he was about to hang up, Nathaniel finally got to the point. "Your ex-wife has fallen asleep. Come pick her up."

Hearing this, Darian narrowed his eyes. Smoke swirled around his handsome face, and in an instant, his expression darkened. "She's sleeping with you?"

Nathaniel laughed softly. "Didn't you say you forgot about her? I thought you'd ask me who your ex-wife is."

"We've met," said Darian.

"Really? You seem quite concerned about her."

Darian realized his sudden emotional reaction and tightened his grip on the cigarette between his long fingers. "My ex-wife is at your place. Shouldn't I be concerned?"

Nathaniel responded nonchalantly as if he didn't mind being misunderstood.

Darian waited for him to continue.

Cecily out in the middle of the night, sleeping at Nathaniel's place? What was going on?

Darian didn't ask.

Nathaniel didn't speak. He was doing it on purpose.

Finally, Darian asked, "Where is she?"

"I don't know yet. I'm looking into it." Nathaniel didn't clarify immediately, which made Darian impatient. "Who told you she was asleep?"

"Aurelie, her best friend. She said they were at a bar."

Darian hung up and made another call. Five minutes later, he had the number of the bar's private room where they were.

Without hesitation, he took a few steps, then paused. ‘Why am I so concerned about her? She is just my ex-wife. Maybe I loved her once, but now she is just my ex-wife.’

Darian frowned and glanced at their children's room.

Well, she was still the mother of his children. He couldn't just ignore her.

Finding a reasonable excuse, Darian quickly left the house.

Nearly twenty minutes later, outside the bar, two cars pulled up almost simultaneously, and the men got out.

Nathaniel looked at Darian with amusement. "I thought you wouldn't come."

Darian's face was tense, and he found a suitable reason for his inexplicable concern. "She's the mother of my child."

"Is that the only reason?" Nathaniel leaned against the car, not in a hurry, smiling meaningfully.

Darian didn't answer him.

Because he didn't know why he was up in the middle of the night, worried about Cecily being out and about.

It was a strange feeling.

He had never felt this way about anyone before.

They arrived at the private room, finding it littered with broken bottles but no sign of Cecily or Aurelie.

Nathaniel raised an eyebrow. "Breaking bottles for fun?"

Darian's face tightened, and he turned to look for them.

In the parking lot behind the bar, Cecily and Aurelie stumbled around, unable to find their car.

Aurelie rubbed her head, a bit anxious. "Where's the car?"

Cecily, holding her head, sat by the flower bed nearby, her eyes half-closed, feeling too dizzy and sleepy to keep them open.

"Cecily, what do we do? We can't get back," Aurelie, also dizzy, returned to Cecily's side and leaned against her.

Everything was spinning for Cecily. She struggled to stand up, her body swaying as she took a few steps forward.

Ahead, a parking spot had a ground lock standing up. Cecily didn't notice it and tripped hard, losing her balance and falling forward.

Sensing danger, Cecily flailed her hands in the air, trying to grab something to steady herself.

But there was nothing.

Just as she was about to fall, the expected embarrassment didn't happen.

A strong hand reached out from the side, firmly catching her around the waist.

In a whirl, Cecily found herself in someone's arms, though she didn't know whose.

Despite her dizziness, she wasn't about to let anyone hold her. She pushed hard, struggling to break free from the embrace.

Darian let her struggle and released her, but she wobbled and nearly fell again.

Finding it somewhat amusing, Darian reached out once more, pulling her soft body back into his arms.

Leaning against his broad chest, feeling the strong heartbeat through the fabric, Cecily sensed Darian's body heat.

That familiar feeling made her hesitantly lift her head. "Darian?"

"It's me," Darian's low voice responded.

Cecily sighed, like a defeated soldier, lowering her head in frustration. She murmured softly, "How could it be you? You forgot about me. Why would you come looking for me? I must be really drunk."

With a bitter smile, Cecily turned in his arms, trying to leave.

This time, Darian didn't let her go. Seeing the moisture in her eyes, a peculiar emotion spread through his heart.

Cecily's misty eyes blinked gently, looking a bit dazed. She pushed him hard. "What are you doing? Where did this rogue come from? Let go of me!"

The difference in strength was too great. Cecily used all her might but couldn't push him away.

Frustrated, she grabbed Darian's arm and bit down hard.

Darian's brow furrowed.

She bit fiercely, and the pain made him instinctively want to push her away, but he didn't. He let her bite.

It wasn't until she left a ring of teeth marks that Cecily let go, glaring at him fiercely, as if to say, "I'm tough, don't mess with me."

Darian looked down at her and asked in a low voice, "Are you this unhappy because I forgot about you?"

Cecily paused, seeming to finally recognize the man in front of her.

Hearing his question, she laughed to herself. "If I forgot about you, brought another man home, let him shower in my house, wear your clothes, and then cuddle with him, giving you the cold shoulder..."

She poked Darian's chest hard with her finger, looking up at him with trembling eyes, and asked, "Will you be happy?"
