Chapter368 A Year Later, She Returned
Late at night, Cecily sat with Rowan and Griffin on the large couch in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows.
She removed the bandages to reveal her eyes that, even though sightless, remained beautiful.
Seeing Cecily silent, Griffin pursed his lips. "Mommy, are you thinking about Daddy?"
Cecily smiled gently. She hadn't realized it before, but now she did miss him a bit. "Yes, I am thinking about him."
Rowan asked, "Mommy, why did you have to leave? Can't we be with Daddy?"
Cecily pressed her lips together and gave a bitter smile. "Because I was afraid your daddy would hurt himself again for my sake. There are still misunderstandings between me and your great-grandfather. My presence there would only escalate their conflicts. Do you want to see that happen?"
Rowan and Griffin shook their heads in unison. "No, we don't."
Griffin looked at Cecily with wide eyes. "Then when Mommy's eyes get better, can we go back?"
"Almost, but I still need to take this time to investigate some things," said Cecily.
Owen harbored too much hatred towards them because of Patrick's car accident. Without uncovering the truth of that year, Cecily and Darian could never be together peacefully.
The more Cecily thought about that car accident, the more she felt it couldn't have been an accident. If the car had been tampered with and lost control while driving, Patrick would have had an accident no matter where he went that day.
This matter was crucial to the Fitzgerald family and to her and Vivienne.
"Mommy, Daddy must be missing you too. You don't know, but Daddy even prepared a surprise for you. It's a pity you can't see it now," Griffin said, his voice tinged with sadness.
"Surprise?" Cecily blinked. "What surprise?"
Rowan said, "We haven't seen it either. We probably have to wait until Mommy's eyes recover and we go back to Silver Frost Capital for Daddy to give it to you."
Cecily smiled. "Then I'll try to get better, and when the time comes, I'll take you back to see what surprise he had prepared for me."
Rowan and Griffin nodded eagerly.
Cecily lowered her eyes and smiled, thinking to herself, ‘What is Darian doing now? Perhaps he is thinking about us just as we’re thinking about him.’
The days that followed were peaceful, and Cecily gradually adapted to the feeling of complete darkness. Blaise visited her a few times, scolding her harshly, and then left in a carefree manner.
Cecily, with her good temper, did not hold it against him.
Vivienne arranged for her to have regular check-ups at the hospital, and with nothing else required of her, Cecily had plenty of time to secretly arrange for an investigation into the car accident from years ago.
Occasionally, Cecily would take Rowan and Griffin back to Silver Frost Capital to secretly see Darian. Unfortunately, Darian seemed to have become very busy, and even if they found him, it was only from a distance and for a brief moment.
What surprised Cecily the most was Owen. She thought that after she took Rowan and Griffin away, he wouldn't let it go and would come to take them back. However, he did nothing.
Owen said nothing, did nothing, and just let her take the children away.
This was indeed strange.
But upon further thought, Cecily understood. Perhaps for Owen now, as long as she was away from Darian, it was good enough.
Without the previous scheming and plotting, life was peaceful and serene, and everything seemed to return to normal.
Time flew by, and another spring arrived.
It was a year later when Cecily finally got her cornea.
Today was the day her bandages would be removed.
In the morning, she was awakened by the noise, as if many people had arrived.
The doctor came and carefully removed the bandages from her eyes. "Miss Watson, you can open your eyes now."
The surroundings fell silent, and everyone's breathing seemed to slow down significantly.
Cecily tightly gripped the bedsheet, her eyelashes fluttering as she slowly opened her eyes.
Around the bed, a crowd had gathered.
She cautiously blinked, her gaze gradually falling on each person.
The first she saw were Vivienne, Rowan, and Griffin, their faces full of anticipation. Then there were Aurelie and Gary, even her two uncles, who usually loved to stir up trouble and bicker with her, had come. And standing at the back, silently watching her, was Blaise. They were all there, all looking at her. Following their gazes, Cecily lowered her head, spread her hands, and stared wide-eyed, unblinking.
"Cecily?"
"Mommy?"
"Cecily?"
Vivienne, worried about Cecily's reaction, quickly asked the doctor, "What's happening to her?"
"Mom!" Cecily seemed to suddenly awaken from a great surprise, her clear eyes blinking as she looked at Vivienne.
Vivienne quickly responded, her heart swelling with endless joy. "Cecily, can you see?"
Cecily nodded. "I can see. Mom, Rowan, Griffin, Aurelie, Gary, Uncle Hunter, Uncle Keaen, and..." She smiled gently, looking at Blaise standing at the back. "Blaise, I can see you all."
In an instant, everyone's expressions turned to joy.
Rowan, Griffin, and Aurelie happily rushed to hug Cecily, causing her to lean back on the bed from their embrace. "That's wonderful, Cecily."
Cecily's eyes reddened as well. After adapting to a year of darkness, regaining her sight and seeing the world again felt like a dream.
Cecily was discharged three days after the bandages were removed. Vivienne repeatedly asked the doctor to ensure Cecily's eyes were fine before allowing her to return to Silver Frost Capital.
At the bustling airport of Silver Frost Capital, Cecily, with Rowan and Griffin, followed by Gary, exited the airport together.
Returning here once more, the thought of soon seeing Darian made Cecily's heart race.
Griffin, bouncing with joy, said, "Mommy, let's hurry and go see Daddy."
Rowan was equally eager. "We all miss Daddy. He'll be so happy to see that you're better, Mommy."
Cecily patted their heads. "I know you miss him. We're going home now."
"Sis, the car's here," Gary reminded.
"Alright."
"Yay, we're about to see Daddy!"
"Look how happy you are," Cecily said as she stepped into the car.
In another car, Darian, dressed in a high-end tailored suit, stepped out with a blank expression. As he was about to walk inside, he suddenly paused, his eyes scanning the surroundings as if searching for someone.
"Boss, what's wrong?" Larkin asked, approaching him.
Darian lowered his gaze. He thought he had just heard a very familiar voice.
This voice had often appeared in his dreams over the past year, and whenever he desperately tried to find the person speaking, he found nothing.
It felt like he had forgotten someone very important.
As Cecily's car drove away, Darian withdrew his gaze. "Nothing, let's go."
Cecily took Rowan and Griffin back to the villa they used to live in.
As the car stopped, Cecily looked at the villa, countless memories flooding her mind.
She wondered what expression Darian would have when he saw them. He should be very happy, right?
Thinking of this, Cecily became even more excited. She couldn't wait to tell him that her eyes were better and that she had returned.
