Chapter 465 A Ghost Who Looks Exactly Like Cecily
"You can crash at my place for a few days," Cecily told Aurelie as they got in the car. "You just had a fight with Lillian, and she won't let it go. Plus, you're pregnant. It'll be safer at my place, and you can figure out what to do about the baby."
"No need."
"Trust me," Cecily insisted. She didn't give Aurelie a chance to refuse and told the driver to head home.
Aurelie smiled, tears in her eyes. "Cecily, thank you."
Cecily gently patted Aurelie's head. "It's okay. You still have me. We'll face this together."
Cecily brought Aurelie home, and Vivienne welcomed her, quickly arranging a room for her.
That evening, Cecily had plans to go out with Darian, but since Aurelie was here, she decided to stay home. Besides, she hadn't been hungry lately.
Darian, who had been stood up by Cecily, felt a bit sour as he looked at the disconnected phone. He wasn't as important as her best friend.
Sighing, Darian planned to keep working when the phone rang again. He thought it was Cecily, but it was Josep.
Darian's face turned cold and he let the phone ring for half a minute before answering.
"Darian, are you crazy? I've already been punished. Why did you do that?"
In just two days, Darian had bankrupted several of Josep's businesses without him even noticing. Impressive.
"I'm going to tell Dad about this. Just you wait."
Darian put the phone aside, continued working, and only responded after Josep finished his rant. "Go ahead, show Grandpa just how many shady deals his good son has been involved in."
"Why, you!" Josep's face turned red in anger.
"Fine! Very well."
Darian didn't listen to Josep any more and hung up.
Josep swept everything off his desk in a rage, trembling with anger.
"Darian, I should have let you die in that car accident years ago."
Josep's eyes were filled with malice when suddenly, a familiar ringtone came from the phone on the ground.
Clenching his jaw, Josep answered. "Hello."
"Josep, what are you doing?"
Josep was furious. "It was all Darian."
"Josep, I don't care about your feud with Darian, but I invested a lot of money, and now it's all gone. How are we going to settle this?"
Josep got even angrier. "Blame Darian. He did everything. What could I do?"
"Josep, it seems you're having a tough time. I heard Owen has started investigating Patrick's death."
"What?" There was panic on Josep's face. "Why would he suddenly investigate that? How did you find out?"
"Never mind how I found out. It's true. Figure out what to do yourself."
With that, the person on the other end hung up.
Josep staggered in panic.
Why would Owen suddenly investigate something from so long ago? It had been over a decade.
Josep immediately called Mark in.
"Find out what my dad has been up to recently. Do it secretly and report back to me immediately."
"Yes." Mark quickly left.
Josep's phone vibrated, causing him to shudder.
He was extremely tense. If Owen found out everything he had done back then, he wouldn't let him off.
What should he do?
Why would Owen suddenly start investigating something from over a decade ago?
It had been so long. There was no way it could be easily investigated now? Besides, he had covered his tracks well back then. Nothing had been found. What could they find now?
Suddenly, Josep's heart settled a bit.
But he couldn't just sit and wait.
Darian had already made a move against him, and Owen had started digging into the past. If this continued, there would be no place for him in the Fitzgerald family.
"There's a ghost!" Olivia ran in frantically, shouting.
She had been like this since last night, as if she had been scared out of her mind.
"Shut up," Josep yelled angrily, "There's no ghost. You useless thing. Take her back."
The servants, feeling wronged, tried to catch Olivia, who had been hiding and running around all day.
"In the back, in the room, there's a ghost that looks exactly like Cecily, a ghost."
Josep suddenly looked up. "What did you say?"
"There's a ghost, a blind ghost."
"A blind ghost that looks exactly like Cecily?"
Olivia nodded vigorously. "A ghost, exactly the same." She glanced at the window, as if she was seeing something again, and started screaming.
Josep's eyes flashed. He stood up and grabbed Olivia. "Where's the ghost? Take me to her. I'll help you get rid of her, so you don't have to be afraid."
"Josep, you believe me, right? There really is a ghost, right?"
"Yes, I believe you. Take me to her."
A ghost that looked exactly like Cecily and was blind—that must be Eliza.
Eliza had been missing for a year. Josep knew Owen had hidden her but didn't know where.
Olivia, in her madness, led Josep around aimlessly for over an hour. Just as Josep was losing patience, Olivia led him to a closed room.
Josep pushed the door open.
Eliza was there.
Eliza was blind, and due to excessive medication, she had lost her memory and sanity. She was currently under the bed, doing something unknown.
The room was relatively tidy, as Owen had arranged for someone to take care of her.
Josep called out, "Eliza?"
When Eliza heard the voice, she immediately hid under the bed, trembling.
Josep frowned, his eyes fixed on Eliza under the bed, and ordered someone to pull her out.
Eliza started screaming, her bony hands flailing in the air.
Olivia started screaming as well, "It's a ghost, a ghost that looks exactly like Cecily!"
The room was filled with noise, and Josep's face darkened.
It wasn't surprising that Olivia had mistaken Eliza for a ghost. Eliza's eyes were scarred, her hair disheveled, and she was emaciated, with drool coming from her mouth. She wore a loose white dress, looking quite eerie.
Josep stared at Eliza, narrowing his dark eyes. "Eliza, are you really crazy or are you just pretending to be crazy?"
When Eliza heard the voice, she curled up, muttering, "Don't hit me, don't hit me."
Josep walked over, squatted down, and grabbed Eliza's jaw. "I thought you might be useful, but it seems not. Since you're useless, you'll stay in this room forever until you die of illness or old age."
In the time it took to grab Eliza's jaw, Josep's hand was covered in her drool.
Disgusted, Josep let go and stood up to leave.
Eliza was good at making poisons, and he had planned to use her, but in her current state, she was of no use.
"Never mind, I must have been crazy to pin my hopes of getting rid of Darian and Cecily on a lunatic."
Josep pulled Olivia with him to leave.
As the door was about to close...
"Wait."
